First time here.I tried the spicy mazemen. It was very good but hella spicy(for me) but still a very good choice. Great atmosphere & fast service too.
I may have found my new favorite ramen place in town.
The decor is striking. It's like the original Blade Runner. It's very well done. Great place for a dinner date.
Menu has a lot of typical appetizers, ramen & mazemen. We tried the house wontons, the classic tonkotsu ramen & house mazemen. Everything was excellent. The katsu was perfect, probably the best I've had here.
The cocktails were also very interesting. Nice staff.
Come early, because it's popular.
Prices aren't cheap (especially the apps), but the quality is there. I'll absolutely return.
Fantastic cocktails, tasty ramen in a unique & atmosphere! Full menu available only as an Instagram highlight, which is a little frustrating. The Tres Spicy Mazemen special with the depth of mala spice (& a small glass of soy milk to reset!) is not for the spice-averse. Friendly service, but not the fastest; we weren't checked on/had water refilled between food arriving & finishing eating, & quite a gap after, as well. Understandable for a busy Saturday evening.
Took me all this time for a review there (although I went there a while back): Decor & atmosphere is unique, it gives off the feeling of eating in the streets in an Asian country. Even the seating & all, which looked to me like classroom desks & chairs, goes along with this theme. Everything was well put & thought. Food wise, no caveats on our end as well. Takoyaki, Salmon & Crème de Bacon Mazemen were our picks. The Crème was from a suggestions from a friend that really enjoyed the fusion. I vouch their words as well. Try it once at least.
Thé au jasmin à essayer. Mazemen Neotokyo le meilleur plat selon mon opinion. Décor qui fait voyager & ambiance agréable. De loin le Meilleur endroit à ramen à Montréal.
The ambience of this place is great! It gives off a cyberpunk/stray vibe. Service was very good too. Food took a little too long but the server was very attentive. As for the food, my partner & I ordered the mazemen & the tonkotsu ramen...first few bites we were amazed by the flavour! But after a few more bites it gets old. Overall both dishes were too salty. The menu is small & doesnt offer much variety for food (yes for drinks). Not a kid-friendly place (nor picky-eater-friendly). It's also very expensive, $70 for two people, 2 ramens, 1 non-alcoholic drink & 15% tip.
Visited during a recent trip to Montreal while in the downtown area. The restaurant atmosphere is a futuristic vibe with Japanese influences throughout the restaurant. They are better known for their ramen & mazemen (brothless ramen) dishes, as well as various Japanese inspired side dishes. Their best known mazemen bowl which is their Neotokyo Extra which comes with added chashu, an ajitama egg on top of their regular Neotokyo Mazemen bowl. It is a sizeable portion for one especially since it comes with an added bowl of rice to clean up the leftover sauce used for the mazemen. The flavours all mix very well & is a unique way of eating ramen as a whole. Overall, a decent spot for Japanese ramen & for an izakaya-like experience. Service was generally very friendly while I was there & my order came at a reasonable time despite the packed atmosphere. Recommended to come earlier to avoid the peak evening dinner time as there can be a bit of a wait.
I've grown to love mazemen, as a flavorful & less fat-heavy alternative to ramen, but it's hard to find. So when I heard that Neotokyo specializes in the dish, I decided to swing by for dinner. The futuristic decor is a fun touch & the staff are friendly, & I was very happy with my food. I ordered the Neotokyo house mazemen & the cucumber salad, & both were delicious & reasonably priced. I'll be back!
Why does ramen have to be so expensive in Mtl?!?! Granted: Neo Tokyo offers a nice rich & creamy broth without seeing an oily film over the soup nor feeling bad oily feel in mouth. Great char siu too! & the egg is definitely one of the better ones I've had in Mtl. Good job. But why the heck so expensive in Mtl?!?! Also ordered the Très Spicy Mazemen with lamb. Très good taste & good amount of lamb. It comes with a glass of soy milk to manage the heat BUT...very disappointing heat. Anyone who loves peppers & respects the heat will know the Korean buldak instant noodles. If you use the whole pack of spicy seasonning for the buldak (& you like it that spicy because the truth is that all we need is heat) then the très spicy mazemen is like 1/8 of that heat...maybe 1/10. So go ahead, eat the mazemen & don't be afraid to take out your contact lenses from your eyes without washing your hands if you need to after finishing slurpping these noodely friendlies. & then there is the spicy karaage (or should we simply say tangy karaage...no real heat here again)...big pieces, good ratio protein & batter, well fried, smothered in yummy sauce yet still crispy BUT why costco dehydrated cranberries & pumpkin seeds (or are they pepitas). Weird garnish. Cheapens it. I would do without or find something better. Don't need that tartness or nuttyness. Otherwise, great cyber punk atmosphere. You'd think you're in a Blade Runner set. Kuddos! Beers are decently priced. Acceptable. Service is good but almost too present...We don't need the waiter to come back so often. Just been there once so not sure if that's how they wait or if the one waiter we had.
Super bon & authentique, le mazemen était pareil à celui que j'ai mangé au Japon! Une super place pour luncher dans le quartier des affaires.
Having experienced this place at the start of our Montreal road trip, we returned on our last leg before heading home. We can report that the tonkotsu ramen was equally good the second time round. We also tried the very spicy lamb mazemen & although I could take the heat, certain spices just make my head sweat. Really tasty! The extra surprise this time was the fish cake which was a lovely starter.
Perfect restaurant. Hits all criteria perfectly. Vibe, food, staff's friendliness, whatever criteria you set they will satisfy. Had spicy karaage, miso truffle, tonkotsu, chicken ramen, & the mazemen, & all of them were top tier. Highly HIGHLY recommend
Neotokyo has turned into my favourite ramen spot in town due to their delicious mazemen. These brothless ramen dishes are simply delicious & unique. It is a place close to my heart as I love the cyberpunk aesthetic. I wish it included references to a variety of media in the genre, but of course it's mostly based on Akira. The first time I came here a while back, I wasn't too impressed, but they have really improved their menu over time, forcing me to edit my review & give it 5 stars. These days I would easily recommend this place as somewhere you have to go if you visit the city.
Awesome cyberpunk vibes & good food! The interior was stunning & felt very Blade Runner-esque. My friends & I came on a Friday night, over an hour before closing, & waited about 7 minutes before getting a table. The interior is so die for! It was moderately noisy, full, & quite hot, but we were graciously seated next to a fan. The service was quick, friendly, & amazing! We ordered the Tonkatsu ramen, the Tokyo Style ramen, & the TanTan ramen. The food was good but not special. The Tonkatsu ramen was delicious, while the Tokyo style was ok & the TanTan was not good. The TanTan was extremely salty despite adding a cup of water to the broth, perhaps because we visited at the end of the day. Otherwise, the chasu & broth was flavourful & aromatic. Would come here again to give their mazemens a try!
Before tonight, I would have given Neotokyo five stars easily. Over the last year, it has been one of my favorite spots to treat myself, & the steak mazemen has been one of my ultimate comfort foods. Tonight I went in to be told that it has been taken off the menu, along with several other popular dishes. The printed menu still LISTS all these dishes, mind, but the very apologetic waiter informed me they're not actually available to order anymore. I would think something that isn't broke doesn't require fixing, but apparently the owner doesn't share this view, & it's a shame, because I don't think I will be coming back to Neotokyo if everything I liked is no longer available to me. The ambiance is cool, the waitstaff is WONDERFUL, but it can't give me what I want out of my dining experience, so, unfortunately I will have to find somewhere else to get my mazemen fix.
Probablement le meilleur ramen que j'ai mangé à Montréal, & que dire des mazemen! Service attentif & jovial, dans une ambiance cyberpunk, j'ai déjà hâte d'y retourner!
This place is downright awesome! Great food, great service. Neotokyo Extra Mazemen, sweet & spicy kaarage chicken & Hamachi crudo killed it. Coming back for sure!!
