Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.
Treat yourself to refined French fare in an antique & dimmed corner locale spawning two floors. From the classic beef tartare, to tasty sweetbread, to the famous ratatouille, your cravings will be easily satiated.
Reviews describe Modavie as a warm, lively Old Montreal bistro with a welcoming vibe and memorable live jazz that enhances the evening. The menu is praised for classic French bistro dishes like mussels and fries, duck confit, lamb chops, steak frites, and seafood, with generous portions and fresh ingredients. Attentive, friendly service and a knowledgeable staff are repeatedly highlighted, helping guests feel cared for in a vibrant setting enhanced by a diverse wine list and craft cocktails. Overall, the atmosphere, food, and music combine to create enjoyable dinners for dates, friends, and celebrations, making Modavie a reliable choice in Montreal.
this restaurant had amazing food, drinks, & live music. the band was extremely lively & people were dancing & event a customer sang a couple songs with the band! the food was great & the price made sense. I was there last night & our waiter was attentive & didn’t come to our table every few mins. he payed attention to us & came to ask us questions at perfect moments (great if you want to have a sort of intimate dinner experience). the only thing i really hated about the restaurant was the hostess. as a past hostess of many different restaurants, the hostess attitude was incredibly surprising. she sat us at a table that had this sort of beam that covered the view of the band in the MDR. i asked her if we can change tables & put us in the middle so we can have the full experience & she then put us at the end of the room in a corner. she just threw the menus & walked away. i was shocked that a hostess for a high end restaurant would even work there. not only that but i called a few hours before our reso to ask if they did anything for special occasions & after i told her what the dinner was for, she didn’t answer my question & just hung up. management needs to have a talk with their hosts.
Came here to drink some wine. Sat at the bar with some friends, & the bartender was VERY helpful with identifying a few bottles for us to pop & enjoy, & we got a charcuterie & cheese board as well.
Yes, we probably overpaid for the wine given the location, but the experience was well worth it.

Un très bon restaurant, une bonne variété de nourriture surtout les les plats de chef ! Un lieu très romantique offrant des chandelles pour chaque table.... je laisse vôtre curiosité à découvrir , chose est sûre vous n'allez pas à regretter !
We visited in the summer. Lovely restaurant in the Old Port, a place I totally love. We had basque chicken, lamb pappardelle, but the most unforgettable dish was a bone marrow appetizer. My heavens. I love, love bone marrow, grew up eating a lot of it. This was the best prepared I’ve had yet. The drinks were wonderful. The jazz was great!
A very elegant restaurant, great food & atmosphere. Didn't get drinks but their garlic snails & poutine are must trys for appetizers. Can't go wrong choosing anything with lamb on their menu. I had the Quebec Lamb Pappardelle & was not disappointed
My husband had the lamb chops they were amazing. A bit too many he couldn’t finish. I had the mussels amazing . A fabulous experience.buddy our waiter could not have been more attentive.

Lovely atmosphere & great live music & service both upstairs & downstairs.
The food was mediocre, especially for the price. I would recommend going here for drinks & a appetizer to enjoy the jazz.
I came here with my friend & had an amazing experience! The service was amazing & great atmosphere. We ordered the onion soup, garlic snails, foie gras, & seafood pasta. Awesome food & attentive service. Every dish was made well, the only dish that was disappointing is the snails. They were small & did not taste fresh.
We live almost next door & have very happy with our experience until the evening of August 18... The menu & quality dropped from a few months ago. Looks like it changed hands & philosophy. We went to the bar around 9:30 pm, ordered a glass of chard & a glass of dessert wine Sauternes. A apple pie & a à Paris Brest pastries to complement the wines. We were definitely scammed by the bartender when the glass of Sauternes was only 1 1/2 ounce for $20 & the glass of Chardonnay was $32 ! The pastries were a disgrace to any pastry chef alive. 118$ for two glasses of wine & two gross desserts is not the Montreal I know & live in especially in my neibourghood.
