Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.
Treat yourself to refined French fare in an antique & dimmed corner locale spawning two floors. From the classic beef tartare, to tasty sweetbread, to the famous ratatouille, your cravings will be easily satiated.
Reviews describe Modavie as a warm, lively Old Montreal bistro with a welcoming vibe and memorable live jazz that enhances the evening. The menu is praised for classic French bistro dishes like mussels and fries, duck confit, lamb chops, steak frites, and seafood, with generous portions and fresh ingredients. Attentive, friendly service and a knowledgeable staff are repeatedly highlighted, helping guests feel cared for in a vibrant setting enhanced by a diverse wine list and craft cocktails. Overall, the atmosphere, food, and music combine to create enjoyable dinners for dates, friends, and celebrations, making Modavie a reliable choice in Montreal.
A thousand thank you to Yan for the great service & his patience & of course the whole team behind the scene for making my birthday so easy & accommodating! From the communication through emails days prior the big day to the actual day, everything went smoothly. The food was great, I had the onion soup, the lamb chop (a tad bit too cooked for my taste but we were also a big group of 14 so I understand) with a side of smashed potatoes, the crème brûlée (DELICOUS by the way) & a mocktail mojito (also delicious). There were live music at the restaurant which adds up to the charm of the place. I left very happy with how everything turned out.
Wonderful experience. Food was delicious. Staff was friendly & attentive. Our server, Christian, was awesome. Live music was nice. It was a little warm inside, but expected when it's 30° outside. Definitely would return when in town.
Be prepared to spend for sure. It was a very expensive dinner. Portions are huge. Went on a Tuesday night. The live jazz was good & the restaurant was packed. Food is pricy but good. Poutine & Mussels were excellent. Wine was alright, not the best.
Great place in heart of old Montreal to enjoy brunch. Service was outstanding. Jazz for brunch was so great that we didn't want to leave. & of course food was great. Many choices for everyone.

First night ever in Montreal & as luck would have it we stumbled into this great place! George, our server, was awesome! He took great care of us & happily attended to all our needs. He even hand wrote a list of places to see while in Montreal. Hubert, the bartender was also awesome! He also took great care of us! A great conversationalist who made great drinks! He also wrote down some places to go to. The manager, I believe her name was Jane, was great. I cannot recommend this place enough! Oh, & by the way, the food was great!

Lors de notre semaine à Montréal en novembre dernier, nous sommes venus 3 fois chez Modavie, tant nous avons apprécié la cuisine, l'accueil, l'ambiance & la décoration. On attend avec impatience d'y revenir 😇.

It was a great place....Fernandino was an amazing maitre'de! & if you are reading this - "Vous êtes un homme bon" :) Loved the conversations with him & the food....A bit pricey for the drinks, but then I'd say 5 Stars to the place & the people!!
I wish there was a 10 star rating. This place exceeded our expectations by far. The service, the drinks, the food, the entertainment were all amazing. Our bartender Sal made the best dirty martini. Lorenzo...well he took care of us like we were family! We dined upstairs & Tyler was our server. Again...another top notch employee of Modavie. I had the signature rack of lamb & it didn't disappoint. Delicious! My friends had the filet mignon & salmon. All raved about their food. Look no further for a memorable dinner in old Montreal! I guarantee...you won't be disappointed.
Overall a very positive experience here. Staff were incredibly kind & attentive. Live music & a beautiful interior lead to atmosphere that is very enjoyable. We ate from the MTL'restaurant week', & everything was fantastic -- except for my lamb. 4 large bone-in pieces on my plate that were barely edible. Extremely fatty, & in some spots raw, not the medium-rare I ordered. Everything else was fantastic though so maybe just some bad luck.
