Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.
Treat yourself to refined French fare in an antique & dimmed corner locale spawning two floors. From the classic beef tartare, to tasty sweetbread, to the famous ratatouille, your cravings will be easily satiated.
Modavie comes across as a warm, lively French bistro in Old Montreal with inviting lighting, timeless charm and nightly live jazz. Reviewers consistently highlight friendly, attentive service and a welcoming staff that makes celebrations feel special. The menu features crowd pleasers like duck confit, rack of lamb and lamb chops, escargots, onion soup and mussels with fries, with many dishes praised for bold flavors and generous portions. The atmosphere blends old world charm with modern warmth, and the two level space with live music creates a vibrant yet conversation friendly setting. While busy nights can bring a bit of hustle and occasional slower pacing, the overall experience is described as memorable and well worth returning for.
I would return again & again purely to see Lorenzo & have the experience with him! He is truly wonderful! The young lady with the gold glasses was delightful (sorry I don't know her name). Music, ambiance, wine choice & food, all delicious! We were recommended by friends in Toronto as British visitors, it didn't disappoint. Thank you so much 🍸

Alexandre # 1 nous avons passé un excellent souper super agréable. personnelle super sourient nourriture service ambiance super Merci Alexandre pour ton excellent service ....
Possibly the best restaurant experience we have had. We visited while on vacation in Old Montreal & we were lucky enough to be there for a live blues band. We had the garlic snails as an appetizer & freshly baked warm rolls were brought to the table as well. The Lamp Chops were out of this world as was my wifes Filet Mignon. That was followed by a crazy good creme brulee. The drinks were professionally made as well & were exceptional. On top of all this the server named Rad was no less than perfect. Friendly, knowledgeable & went out of his way to ensure we were enjoying ourselves throughout the night. He also allowed us all the time we wanted for a nice meal & music. Thank you for a memorable night.
This place was just perfect. The ambience was beautiful with the cutest French music. We went at an off hour & it was so quaint. Our server, George, was so friendly & made the experience better :). I got the mussels & fries & it was so filling without being too much. Cannot recommend this place more & a must go to in Montreal!
Modavie has been by far our favorite French restaurant in Montreal. The french bistro atmosphere was exceptional & our waiter, George, had excellent recommendations for food. Delicious food, wonderful environment, & unbeatable service.

One of our favorite places in Montreal & some of the best food hands down. We went twice & both times had the lamb pasta because it was THAT good - we also had the steak frites, French onion soup, Caesar salad, crème brûlée, & seasonal sorbet - all excellent as well & the drinks were very good. Very cute atmosphere with live music at night. Staff were so friendly & welcoming - we went to maybe 12-15 restaurants throughout our trip & none came close to Modavie.
I came here solo on 4/14 Sunday night at around 8:45-9:00pm as part of a work trip. It's my 4th or 5th time here & every single time before was great, which is why I keep coming back when I'm in town. As I came myself, the hostess brought me to a table & I had asked if I could sit in the corner at the booth, she hesitated & gave a very uninterested "its reserved". Its 9pm on a cold Sunday evening, not only that, she proceeded to put me in the dead center of that dining area, as if she was offended that I had even dared to ask. I watched & the same happened to another couple that came in after me. The server (I believe his name is Patrice) was awesome & the food (Salmon Tartare & Lamb Rack) was fabulous as usual. By the time I left at 10pm it was still empty as expected, & diners were filing out of the restaurant on the cold evening.

Great place to eat, service was great, & food was amazing. My wife had the steak & fires, & I had the mushroom risotto. Best risotto i ever had, & my wife's steak was amazing. It was our first time ever here; this restaurant is a must place to eat when in Old Montreal. Paul Thunder Bay, Ontario
Fantastic. One of'many' great places to eat in Old Montreal. Having said that, Modavie stood out as being one of the best. Service was excellent, the decor & live music was great as well. The food......perfection! French Onion soup & the Duck Confit were both the best we've had yet. The'huge' bowl of local muscles was also the best. Highly recommended!!! 😀
