Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.
Treat yourself to refined French fare in an antique & dimmed corner locale spawning two floors. From the classic beef tartare, to tasty sweetbread, to the famous ratatouille, your cravings will be easily satiated.
Modavie comes across as a warm, lively French bistro in Old Montreal with inviting lighting, timeless charm and nightly live jazz. Reviewers consistently highlight friendly, attentive service and a welcoming staff that makes celebrations feel special. The menu features crowd pleasers like duck confit, rack of lamb and lamb chops, escargots, onion soup and mussels with fries, with many dishes praised for bold flavors and generous portions. The atmosphere blends old world charm with modern warmth, and the two level space with live music creates a vibrant yet conversation friendly setting. While busy nights can bring a bit of hustle and occasional slower pacing, the overall experience is described as memorable and well worth returning for.
Had supper & drinks with friends on Saturday night during the F1 events. We sat at the bar & were very pleased with the attention & service we received. The bartender, Sal, did a fantastic job. He made excellent recommendations regarding food & his cocktails were amazing. The life band was playing at the same time, so we had an added benefit of life music during our visit. We will definitely come back there again.
Overall experience is 100/10. We had the best server we could ever ask for. Alexandre assisted us & made sure we're satisfied & beyond that. Food is delicious too, a 100%! Worth the price! Would recommend & visit again. :)

This restaurant is my favourite in Montreal. I had the pleasure to visit yesterday & today. For appetizers I highly recommend the French onion soup & sweet bread. My friend said the escargot was the best it contained the perfect seasoning balance. The lamb chops are amazing & so is the duck confit. Every cocktail I tried was delicious. Don't forget to get the crème brûlée. The server was meticulous & Lorenzo took great care of us, what a gem of a person! I will definitely be back when we visit Montreal next!
This is my favorite restaurant in the world, no exaggeration. Also the best espresso martini I've ever had. I will keep coming back to Montreal specifically for Modavie.
We were called to this place by the foie gras. We had a late lunch so we only ordered appetizers, 4 of them. They were all good but the ones that shined most was the foie gras & the sweet bread. My wife was in heaven from the first bite to the last, euphoric they were. There was a smooth live jazz band playing that set a nice stage for the whole experience. The staff was spectacular as was the room. A definite must repeat.
Amazing food & really love the decor, there's also live music Friday evening. Great service & friendly staff, food came relatively quick. My favourite is the lamb chop & mushroom risotto!
The staff & service were excellent. Our waitress was super knowledgeable & helpful with a gluten allergy in our group. We had great cocktails, appetizers, & meals all around. Enjoyed the live music upstairs, was a good volume to still enjoy dinner.
We went to Modavie to celebrate a special occasion, calling early to make sure we were seated next to the live band. Upon arrival we were seated behind a post which blocked our view of the band. Further, we could barely make out the music over the loud chatter which seemed to echo throughout the restaurant making it difficult to hear the person right next to you. The salmon of the tartare was tasteless but the garlic snails were not bad. The duck confit was amazing but unfortunately it was the only dish that impressed us. The Niçoise salad came out more salty than the manager who arrived to rectify the intolerable dish.
the live music is fun, the service is personable which makes you feel welcomed & comfortable. The food didn't disappoint either, they make a great rack of lamb.

Went here for dinner on a Sunday eve. Reservations recommended. Staff were all very friendly, with prompt service. The atmosphere was nice, with live music that starts later in evening. Food was good! Good portion, nice flavouring & présentation that you don't get too often. We had the octopus (good stuff), mussels +fries (good portion), catch of the day (nicely done walleye that eve). Would return again to try the other menu offerings.
We came on Saturday after 5pm mass at the Basilica & shockingly were able to get seated without a reservation. Good wine list & cocktails. I had the filet mignon. All the food was delicious, service was good & my 1 year old was dancing to the live jazz music! Great experience!
Lorenzo's excellent service turned a great brunch into a phenomenal experience to be remembered. I recommend the duck waffles or the braised lamb. The live music is enjoyable & the ambience is very rustic yet cozy. Thank you again to Lorenzo & the team who took care of us today.
