Review Summary

Modavie comes across as a warm, lively French bistro in Old Montreal with inviting lighting, timeless charm and nightly live jazz. Reviewers consistently highlight friendly, attentive service and a welcoming staff that makes celebrations feel special. The menu features crowd pleasers like duck confit, rack of lamb and lamb chops, escargots, onion soup and mussels with fries, with many dishes praised for bold flavors and generous portions. The atmosphere blends old world charm with modern warmth, and the two level space with live music creates a vibrant yet conversation friendly setting. While busy nights can bring a bit of hustle and occasional slower pacing, the overall experience is described as memorable and well worth returning for.

Ordered the Risoto & it was delicious. A real delight with a great wine

Came here to drink some wine. Sat at the bar with some friends, & the bartender was VERY helpful with identifying a few bottles for us to pop & enjoy, & we got a charcuterie & cheese board as well.

Yes, we probably overpaid for the wine given the location, but the experience was well worth it.

We live almost next door & have very happy with our experience until the evening of August 18... The menu & quality dropped from a few months ago. Looks like it changed hands & philosophy. We went to the bar around 9:30 pm, ordered a glass of chard & a glass of dessert wine Sauternes. A apple pie & a à Paris Brest pastries to complement the wines. We were definitely scammed by the bartender when the glass of Sauternes was only 1 1/2 ounce for $20 & the glass of Chardonnay was $32 ! The pastries were a disgrace to any pastry chef alive. 118$ for two glasses of wine & two gross desserts is not the Montreal I know & live in especially in my neibourghood.

All the dishes were fresh & the dishes had the warmth of home-made food. The chefs take great care in selecting the ingredients. The restaurant also caters for all tastes by providing a large selection of the best wines of the region. There is a cozy lounge area in the VIP section with a fireplace in the stone wall. My waitress was Tania. She was magnificent & Lorenzo the Manager took good care of me. It made my 50th birthday very special. Lucia

I had a gift certificate for this place so I decided to go try it our with my boyfriend.
We had a fried calamari, braised lamb millefeuille, chicken piccata, an apple pie with ice cream, a tiramisu & two glasses of white wine. The food was good. The wine we had was great! I loved the apple pie & the lamb. The waiter was really nice.
When we got in, the restaurant was nice (a few people at the bar & a few groups eating). But the place gradually got louder & louder (& the place wasn't even full). We were sitting on the first floor. It felt like people were yelling. There wasn't even any music playing on the first floor. We could sort of hear the music from the second floor though.

I liked the food & the service but the ambience is awful.
