The only place you can get a truly reliable steak tartare in Montreal, served with perfect crisp fries. 7-24 update... The same charming & efficient service. The food is on par. Thank god for consistency.
Great place, you really can't go wrong with classic French food, & this place does it so well. Love the vibe too.
Very nice, classic French restaurant. The dishes we got definitely hit the spot. Everything was prepared perfectly, not too heavy & the waiter gives great, detailed recommendations for drinks & food. For what we ordered, I find the pricing of the food was fair, not overly expensive. You would definitely see me back at L'express.
A step back in time to a genuine French Bistro in Montreal. Having just been in Paris 6 month's ago. L'Express felt more authentic! Crowded, lively, & full of energy. Busy local place, great bistro food, with daily specials. Dining late? No problem. L'Express is open for late dinners, or dessert seekers! Friendly & knowledgeable wait staff. Only downside, a little loud when packed with diners, & & space is tight. But if you enjoy a good local exciting vibe, L'Express is for you!
A premium restaurant with classic French bistro flair, dressed-up & very attentive waitresses & waiters serving very good French food. Expect to pay 60-70$ for a starter, main dish, & dessert together.
A great French restaurant, with a modern take on traditional French dishes.
Booked our table 2 weeks in advance. Had a very good experience, the server was very patient with us as it's our first time eating in a French restaurant. They also do speck English & has English menu when you dine in. Very happy with my visit.
At first, I thought L'Express was a tourist trap, but was I wrong. Packed at 2:00 on a blistering hot Tuesday in the middle of June, L'Express would feel comfortable in any arrondissement in Paris. We settled in at the expansive bar, ordered wine & a cocktail, & didn't miss Paris at all. Romanik took great care of us, & his graciousness was welcome after the often self entitled servers in the United States. Maybe Canada's universal health care has something to do with that. The menu covers every classic French dish, & we ordered calves liver with frites & Duck Confit for nostalgia's sake. Ooh La La. They were both fantastic. Our late lunch was long & so relaxing. Regrettably, we left the AC of L'Express to take a stroll in 93 degree heat. Mistake. We should have stayed at L'Express & ordered dessert.
One of my favorite for French Food with an authentic retro vibe. Food is excellent however they are extremely cheap on AC & everytime I go there I sweat my life!
If you want to have a French Parisian style bistro, this is the spot as it still serves an authentic feel. Steak & fries were great.
Iconic MTL French bistro with great atmosphere, amazing wine selection, great menu & yummy food.
This is my first french bistro experience. The staff gets very busy, so make sure you book in advance. There's no lunch menu or late night menu that are offered elsewhere. I ordered a snow crab soup which is a local dish & beef tartare which is a classic. The soup has phenomenal flavor & all the ingredients are well-balanced. The tartare is also decent, although my palette would like more seasoning. Every place has their own version of the tartare, so this is likely just my personal preference. Overall this is an amazing experience in Montreal & worth the little dent they put on your wallet.
Amazing service & delicious authentic french food in Montreal. Feels like you've somehow stepped into Paris in the 1960s.
I got the quail with wild rice, SO good. Amazing traditional French restaurant with amazing service as well.
A great French restaurant, with amazing food, wine list, & service. If you go during the day time, try to book à table under the glass ceiling! I really liked their appetizers & desserts the most, their paté was amazing, & the bone marrow, chèvre salade, grilled octopus, duck confit were also really tasty. The lemon tart was one of the best I've had in Montreal.
Excellent classic French restaurant! Authentic atmosphere, friendly service. Every time we visit Montreal we eat here. Open late.
Bustling French brasserie. Excellent food. Service was good although I felt we didn't get the same attention as francophone customers but it didn't result in issues. I can recommend the place & would definitely come back for the food. Fish soup, croc monsieur, quiche are recommended. I also liked you can take your time here despite the business in this restaurant!
This is a spectacular French restaurant. My friend & I took a day trip to Montreal & found this place on google. We walked in without a reservation & the maître d' was kind enough to seat us as long as we'd be finished by his next reservation. The service was excellent. Since we had to drive back to The States after our visit, the waitress recommended a half bottle of Chardonnay, which was very good. We shared the arancini & bone marrow to start. For our entrees, I had the hanger steak with mashed potatoes & my friend had the duck confit. All of the was delicious & perfectly cooked. The ambiance here is excellent as well. I'd highly recommend coming here if you're going to be in Montreal.
