A classic for a reason. Attentive service, retro vibes, & classic food served to perfection. Can't ask for much more. The carpaccio, poulet roti, cerely remoulade were all excellent, & love the jar of cornichon & mustard on the side was a fun & delicious accompaniment. Came back a second time for a late night snack too.
We really enjoyed this restaurant. The atmosphere is a classic French bistro . All of our food was very flavorful & delicious. Our server, Rachel, was amazing! The only complaint is the noise level is high but it adds to the ambiance here. Highly recommend!
Brought my golden retriever along last Saturday afternoon & was so relieved to find they had a shaded terrace where she could settle right beside our table. The staff were genuinely warm about having her there, even bringing out a little bowl of water without being asked. I had the croque monsieur & it was exactly the kind of classic, no-fuss bistro food that just hits right on a lazy afternoon. L'Express is now firmly on my regular rotation for weekend lunches with my pup.

My absolute favorite French bistro in all of Montreal, & Canada! Cozy elegant Parisian interior, classic black & white tiled floor, dark wood, golden ceiling. Long bar. Divine food. Classic long standing menu favorites! Friendly, efficient staff. On my first visit I asked our well worn waitress what their best dishes were, she smiled & said,'Monsieur, all of these dishes have been served for over 40 years - they are all the best!' & she was right. Make reservations. A very noisy buzzing room. I was saddened when they closed for months of renovation last year .. relieved to see their lovely interior decor intact, unchanged, already perfect & classic exactly as it is! A Sunday New York Times ran a full page testimonial to L'Express, revealing that it was an ultimate chef's favorite destination from all over the continent.
I book my Montreal visit to best friend around this restaurant's availability!
Highest recommendation! A must try destination for all serious food lovers! 🌞👑🐒⚜? d
Very classic. Food & service were great & the atmosphere was exceptional. While the food was wonderful it is not the best food I've ever had of this style but this is a can't miss pick regardless.
One of the best brasseries in Montreal. The atmosphere is lively. The service is consistently excellent! It's a classic French bistro, making it a place I return to again & again… it's simply great food, it never disappoints. ?
An amazing experience with efficient & seamless service, including the wine recommendations & pace of the courses. Classic but unstuffy dishes of the highest quality. No dehydrated gastronomy here, just a restaurant full of people enjoying life.
Managed to snag a last-minute table at L'Express for lunch. While the kitchen paces itself-expect a bit of a wait for the mains to arrive-the warm, friendly service & precise cooking make it entirely worthwhile.
The culinary breakdown:
Mousse de Foie de Volaille: A classic done right. Rich, smooth, & deeply flavorful.
Demi-Cornouaille: Beautifully executed poultry. Remarkably moist & paired with a stellar, deeply savory sauce.
Saumon aux Lentilles & Épinards: A masterclass in clean, classic technique. Perfect texture.
Croque Monsieur: Visually classic & decadent. Absolute high marks from the kids.
Raviolis: The undisputed star of the afternoon. While a modest presentation of just four pieces, the sheer depth & precision of the sauce completely eclipse the portion size. Bold, concentrated flavors that demanded a clean plate.
A masterclass in traditional execution. Just allow yourself the time to sit back & savor it.
