Sat at the bar with my daughter last night. Service was amazing by bartender. She recommended great wine & dinner. We had the bourgot app. My daughter had trout & I had traditional steak frites. Dessert was creme brulee & raspberry glacee. We had made reservations.
😍🍽? Food heaven alert! Everything was just incredible! From the perfectly cooked duck 🦆🔥 to the decadent desserts 🍰🍮🍫, every bite was a flavor explosion 😋💥.
The vibe of the place is cozy & inviting 🌿🪑🎶, perfect for chilling with friends or treating yourself 🌸✨. Staff were friendly, service smooth, & honestly… I just want to come back tomorrow 😍🚀.
If you love amazing food + a cute atmosphere + total comfort, this place is a must-visit 🍤🥗☕. Can't wait for my next foodie adventure here! 🍴💖
It had been years since I had been here & heard that they had redecorated. Our kids had actually made a reservation the following night unbeknownst to us. Went back with our friends & we arrived a bit late due to parking troubles. It didn't help that the resto was difficult to find as the signage isn't in view. We sat & chatted a bit & were not impressed at the way our waiter greeted us. Nonetheless, we proceeded to order our food & the attitude continued when my wife was asking questions about the menu. I had the smoked herring which was the best thing I had that evening. It was well prepared & delicious. My wife ordered the salmon which she enjoyed as a main & I had the steak tartare. My tartare wasn't great. Mid at best. The meat was fresh but lacking flavour although they did get the spice level correct. Was tempted by the maple profiteroles but at over $17, I passed. Not sure why dessert prices have gone through the roof especially for a bistro. Sadly, my kids had an even worse experience with service the following evening. Suffice it to say, I won't be back as there are better bistro experience like Lemeac, Chez Lévesque or Brasserie Bernard in Montreal to name a few all with better service & food.
One of my favourite restaurants. Food is exceptional! Try the bone marrow, or their cloud dessert.
Excellent food, service & atmosphere. After many visits to Montreal, I was finally able to get a reservation on a Monday for brunch. We had a green salad, herring appetizer, duck pasta, lamb shank & creme brûlée for dessert. The service was polite & attentive. The food was hearty, flavorful & decent portion sizes.
Steak frites, cod fritters, amazing wine choices, & the can't miss maple syrup profiteroles!!! These are truly life changing & absolutely a fantastic Canadian twist on a French classic. Probably one of my favorite desserts I've ever had.
Tile floors, a long bar, mirrored walls, dim lighting - diners say it feels like stepping into a real neighborhood bistro in Paris. The ambiance is cozy, lively, & timeless. We walked in with no resy, got seated at 10:30 PM. Still it was very vibey. There's a large wine list with options at various price points. Food was authentic, comforting & very french. We tried appetizers & dessert (profiteroles) - best profiteroles of my life.
Joelle made our evening wonderful with his recommendations & service.
Beef tartare & bone marrow were a smash hit followed by the caramel dessert!
Restaurant has been open for a long time & is a blend of classic French & Montreal fare. Food was amazing. Complimentary table gherkins with mustard was oddly delicious. Profiteroles for dessert were also a highlight.
By far one of the best restaurants in Montreal. Incredible French Bistro on St-Denis. The service is fantastic, the food is delicious, & the cozy atmosphere is immediately greets you.
Each table comes with complementary pickles, dijon mustard, & bread!
The duck & veal kidneys are a must have. Finally the Ile flottante dessert is massive, but delicious.
First time here with my wife , I've been here a few times already. The food is always good as usual, we did book online which made it quicker when we came in. My wife had the paysanne soup which wasn't famous to be honest . We both has the steak which was pretty good & the dessert that was delicious .
We were told about this from some locals, I never would've recognized it from the street as a restaurant. It flies under the radar. Almost like it is hidden in plain sight. A real treasure.
It is so worth finding this place. The food was fabulous. The service is the most attentive I've seen in a very, very long time! & they clearly take pride in that service when you look at the wall of photos that shows the wait staff & culinary team that support this restaurant year after year after year!
I had the special that involved fish, & a gorgeous caper, butter, lemon sauce. They had no trouble working around an unusual allergy like garlic. Rather than telling me what limited options they could have, they told me to just tell them what I liked, & that they would adapt it… this is so very, very rare today, post pandemic.
Just know that if you order the floating caramel island dessert it is gigantic! & far more than you can consume, even between two people!
L'Express is an exceptional restaurant & a true gem for dinner in Montreal. From start to finish, the experience was outstanding. The service was impeccable-friendly, attentive, & detail-oriented, making us feel well taken care of throughout the evening. The atmosphere was lively yet relaxed, creating the perfect vibe for a memorable night out. The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish showcasing fresh, high-quality ingredients & expert preparation. The highlight of the meal was the dessert-the floating island with caramel (if I recall the name correctly)-an absolute must-try! It was the perfect sweet ending to an already amazing dining experience. If you're looking for a spot in Montreal that combines excellent food, top-notch service, & a wonderful ambiance, L'Express should be at the top of your list. Highly recommended!
