I visited Les Alchimistes last weekend with my friend Farzy, & it turned into one of those café experiences that stays with you long after you leave.
Formerly known as Les Impertinentes, the café was reimagined about a year ago by its new owner, Mathias. He comes from a real estate background with no formal coffee experience, but you can feel how personal this place is to him & his wife. The name, logo, & overall concept were changed to reflect a theme that is closer to his heart, & that intention shows in the details. When we met him, he was incredibly kind, effortlessly charming in a full Canadian tux, & genuinely excited to talk about the café & what they're building.
The space itself feels warm & creative, with a youthful, community-driven energy. Les Alchimistes shares its space with a ballet school, Ballet Hop, which gives the café a really special rhythm. Kids play games at the tables while parents sip coffee as they wait for class to end. It feels lively, wholesome, & lived-in in the best way.
Food-wise, everything we tried was fresh & thoughtfully made. The sandwich menu is fairly new, about three months old, & all sandwiches are prepared fresh. We shared the Flamel & the Cléo, both named after famous alchemists, along with a tartine saumon. The Cléo especially stood out… soft, moist, & melting in your mouth. The bread across the board was excellent, pillowy & flavorful. We also shared a slice of Persian love cake, which felt like a sweet nod to the owner's roots. I'm usually not the biggest fan of floral desserts because they can taste a bit like perfume, but this one pleasantly surprised me. I really enjoyed it.
Matcha lovers should absolutely try the drinks here. Mathias is a true matcha enthusiast & takes it seriously. They always source ceremonial-grade matcha from the same farm & company to keep the flavor & quality consistent, & they aim to respect traditional preparation methods. I don't know much about matcha myself, so I appreciated him explaining that soy or almond milk works best with it, which convinced me to switch from my original cow's milk order. I had the red fruit matcha with soy milk, & it was incredibly refreshing & well balanced. Farzy ordered the pistachio matcha made with pistachio milk, added an extra shot of syrup to suit her taste, & loved it just as much.
Service was also a highlight. Our barista, Clem, was warm & attentive, & it happened to be her last day. I was lucky enough to witness a really touching moment of her saying goodbye to the team while preparing her final latte. She's amazing at latte art, & watching her hug Mathias before leaving perfectly summed up the café's energy… sweet, sincere, & community-focused.
Les Alchimistes is the kind of café that feels intentional without trying too hard. A place to slow down, connect, & enjoy something made with care. I'll absolutely be back.

J'ai été très déçue par mon expérience dans ce café. Au départ, la personne au comptoir s'est trompée dans ma commande. Ensuite, j'ai demandé un matcha latte à la vanille, mais il n'y avait presque pas de sirop. Lorsque j'ai poliment demandé d'en ajouter un peu plus, j'ai senti un regard & une attitude très désagréables, comme si je demandais quelque chose d'exagéré.
Le service manquait clairement de professionnalisme & d'amabilité. Pour un prix d'environ 10 $, je m'attendais à un meilleur service & à des boissons de meilleure qualité.

Les Impertinentes était l'un de mes cafés préférés, avec le meilleur matcha de MTL… Quelle déception depuis le changement de nom !
Prix revus à la hausse, & service pas du tout au RDV. On a été servi dans des gobelets en papier car les tasses n'étaient soi-disant plus disponibles, 2 heures plus tard les baristas avaient toujours rien nettoyés, par contre pour ricaner en écoutant du rap, là elles avaient le temps..! Vraiment ordinaire quand on paye plus de 14$ pour une boisson & un gâteau.
Ils faisaient les meilleurs matcha à montréal (surtout celui aux petit fruits) & je l'ai souvent recommandé à des amies mais depuis un moment ils ont coupé dans le goût & y mettent presque aucune saveur pour le même prix c'est très décevant.
Had their pistachio matcha latte & beetroot hummus with feta toast. Both tasted good but the latte was crazy expensive ($9 before tax), so this was definitely something I would only ever get once to try & never again. The texture of the toast was nice but as you can tell by the color it doesn't look like there's much beetroot in the hummus at all (I couldn't taste it, & the grocery store hummus I usually get is much more flavorful). It is, however, a good place to study if that's what you're looking for. The music isn't too loud & they have tables with outlets. But I would probably just save the money & get a simple drink because the one other time I came, I ordered a lavender matcha latte but they forgot about the lavender part, so they just pumped syrup on top of the regular matcha that they originally handed out.
J'avais repéré sur les réseaux leur fameux matcha à la confiture de fraise, & il fallait absolument que je vienne le tester par moi-même. L'établissement, situé sur le boulevard Saint-Laurent, offre une ambiance calme & apaisante, parfaite pour discuter entre amis ou même pour travailler tranquillement.
La barista était très aimable & souriante, ce qui a rendu l'expérience encore plus agréable.
Quand j'ai reçu ma boisson, je n'ai pas osé la goûter tout de suite tant elle était belle visuellement. & côté goût… j'ai goûté pas mal de matcha à Montréal, mais celui-ci entre directement dans mon top 3. Le matcha avait une saveur pure, authentique, & la confiture de fraise maison l'accompagnait à merveille. L'équilibre était parfait, ni trop sucré, ni trop amer.
Petit bémol : le prix. J'ai payé 10 CAD pour cette boisson, ce que je trouve assez élevé… mais bon, c'était vraiment savoureux.
Je reviendrai sans hésiter pour goûter leur matcha à la pistache, qui m'intrigue beaucoup !
Un charmant café qui propose une belle variété de boissons au matcha ainsi que des desserts, avec des options sans gluten & véganes. Le matcha latte à la rose est agréablement parfumé avec le sirop de rose. Le soleil illumine largement la salle, rendant l'espace chaleureux & lumineux. C'est l'endroit idéal pour travailler ou clavarder entre amis. On adore l'ambiance de ce café!
J'ai été à ce café avec mes enfants & j'y ai passé un très bon moment. Nous avons été bien accueillis, l'endroit est joliment décoré & l'ambiance est cosy. J'ai apprécié la variété de cafés & de matcha offerts, ainsi que l'attention d'un employé ( qui semblait être le propriétaire) & qui a pris le temps de discuter avec moi & m'expliquer l'origine de leur thé ce que je trouve intéressant de connaître l'histoire derrière ce qu'on boit. Il a aussi su être flexible avec mes enfants en leur proposant un lait au sirop de fraise, ce qui a rendu l'expérience ludique pour eux aussi! Leur latte à la pistache est excellent!! . J'y retournerai sans hésiter :)

J'aurais apprécié qu'on m'informe que le matcha latté contient du sucre. Cette information n'est indiquée nulle part & je ne consomme aucun sucre raffiné. J'ai dû jeter ma consommation. Sinon, service excellent. Musique agréable, ambiance confortable & décontractée. Barista souriante & sympathique.
