great atmosphere & excellent service. I ordered the mussels & fries, but unfortunately one of the mussels was bad. These things can happen, but I was a bit shaken & didn't feel comfortable continuing the dish. What really stood out was how attentive & caring the staff were afterward, they handled the situation professionally & made sure I was taken care of, which I really appreciated. The tartare was good, & the pain perdu was delicious. It was a little sweeter than my personal preference, but the portion was hugewe easily shared it between two people.
My hanger steak was super small. I could hold it in my hands. I got too much fries. An unhealthy amount of fries. It's like they tried to compensate me with fries for that super small hanger steak.

At this price point I expected a whole lot more. When we arrived it wasn't very busy & yet we were not greeted by a hostess or anyone for about five minutes. Staff was walking right past us & didn't even acknowledge us waiting to be seated. Finally we got sat at what had to be the smallest table in the restaurant. Even the salt & pepper shakers could barely fit on the table. I was concerned things were going to fall off. This was our anniversary dinner so I would have liked at least a bit of privacy.
We order the crusted goat cheese & smoked herring for appetizers. The goat cheese & the herring were great & delicious, however the salad that came with both tasted quite funny. Almost as if the greens were spoiling or not washed at all.
My wife had the grilled hanger steak & I had the roasted duck breast. The duck was great. The broth & dumplings were great too. The salad was just ok. Nothing special just some sautéed bok choy & ribboned carrots.
The steak was disappointing. We had told the server at least four times we wanted medium rare. It seemed like she didn't understand. When the steak came I was pretty shocked. It was barely rare. Almost blue rare in the thicker part. I'm honestly surprised my wife ate it. The fries were nothing special & very under seasoned.
Chocolate cake banana popcorn dessert was pretty good. I didn't enjoy the caramel popcorn in it but the rest was wonderful. My wife did enjoy the popcorn though.
Overall for this price point, I expected a LOT more. Maybe a Tuesday evening made a difference but I was pretty disappointed.
I had the mussels & my boyfriend had the hanger steak both were amazing. My mom had the truffle salmon tartare & my friend had this risotto. Everything was super delicious. The portion for the mussels was huge in my opinion so come hungry as you cannot take the mussels to go.
Lemeac never fails to impress. There is a reason it remains such a Montreal institution. Three of us went for a late Saturday lunch. I had the mussels & frites, & my friends had the hen & the poached eggs with sausage. All very tasty. Service was friendly & efficient. Highly recommend.
Lemeac is one of those places that makes you wish you had a bigger stomach.
We came on a Sunday, recommended for brunch - but after looking over the lunch menu, we made the switch. No regrets.
We started with the escargot & a half portion of the mushroom ravioli. The escargot isn't served traditionally, & honestly that works in its favour. Mushrooms, pasta, & tomatoes in a basil foam - deeply flavourful & completely out of this world. The mushroom ravioli arrived in a rich demi-glace with pine nuts. Bold, indulgent, the kind of starter that already makes the meal.
For mains, the confit duck leg was cooked to perfection. Served with potatoes & salad - but it's that skin that stays with you. Cracked perfectly. The kind of detail that separates a good kitchen from a great one.
The mussels & fries were equally exceptional. A generous bowl with white wine, tomatoes, dill, & parsley. The mussels were tender - not the least bit rubbery, which is rarer than it should be. The fries held their own alongside them.
We didn't make it to dessert. We couldn't finish our mains. That's not a complaint - that's a reason to come back. & we will. Dinner next time.

We had a great meal & the ordering was very easy. The staff was friendly & the atmosphere was very pleasant. I will come back again to try some new things on the menu. I recommend this place for anyone looking for a good time. The overall experience was really wonderful for our group.
