Lemeac is a true Montreal institution & a very solid choice if you're looking for a classic, reliable dining experience.
We've been a few times over the years & it's always been consistent. The atmosphere is lively, the service is professional, & the overall experience is smooth from start to finish.
The food is good & well executed, with a menu that sticks to timeless French brasserie classics. Nothing overly surprising, but you know what you're getting, & it's done properly.
It's a dependable spot that has clearly stood the test of time.
Excellent French bistro with the best pain perdu in the whole city
Very good French restaurant with crab cake with seaweed vegetables & tomatoes, the fish with vegetables, cheese with seaweed , calamari , pig blood with mashed potatoes & cooked potatoes!!!!!! We had two main courses lamb chops with mashed potatoes & green beans & duck sauce pasta with seaweed & fresh cheese !!!!!!!!!
Love the food & the service, one of the best French restaurants in Montreal.
This french toast is just as bomb as everyone says it is. Recommend coming here for that alone, but the rest of the menu is great as well. The salmon rillette dish & the saffron risotto were both excellent lunch options. Coming back here for sure.
This is our go to restaurant when we need to celebrate our family birthday events. We went on Saturday evening & as usual it was very busy & hectic. Our server Piere-Luc was absolutely amazing. He was very attentive, kept his cool & calm even when it was very busy. He was such a gentleman too. I can't complain about the food. I am never disappointed! If you want to experience true, mouth-watering French cuisine, this is the place. We come here because of the food & top-notch service.
Leméac is a wonderful place to dine elegant, polished, & known for being very strict with their menu & dining standards, which truly shows in the quality of the food. Everything is prepared with intention, consistency, & care, making it a standout spot in Montréal's restaurant scene.
The appetizers were a great way to begin the meal. The salmon tartare, whether with classic seasoning or truffle oil, was fresh & bright. The grilled calamari was tender & full of flavor, while the crab cake had a perfectly crisp exterior & a rich, satisfying center. The panko-crusted goat cheese was a highlight warm, creamy, & beautifully balanced with the apple & walnut salad. The vegetable & grilled sausage minestrone was hearty & comforting, packing great flavor in every spoonful.
For the main courses, Leméac continues to impress. The duck leg confit was cooked to perfection tender, flavorful, & fall-off-the-bone good. The prime grilled rib eye was juicy & cooked exactly as ordered, a great choice for any steak lover. The asparagus & wild mushroom risotto was creamy, earthy, & satisfying, while the braised beef cheeks bourguignon offered deep, rich flavors that showcase true French cooking technique.
Dessert was just as memorable. The Pain Perdu was warm, soft, & indulgent, & the Crème Caramel au Café had the perfect balance of sweetness & coffee notes. The Vanilla Crème Brûlée was silky & perfectly torched, & the Pudding au Caramel was smooth & comforting, a great way to end the night.
The flavors overall were very good & surprisingly casual for such a refined setting, making the restaurant feel approachable while still luxurious. Service was excellent, quick, attentive, & professional, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
Leméac is definitely a spot worth visiting if you want a well-executed meal in a classy, welcoming atmosphere. I would absolutely return.
Excellent service, lovely atmosphere. Everything I've tried there (after multiple visits) is incredible, except the mac n' cheese which was underwhelming & one-note. The French toast dessert is a MUST!
On one of the warmer evenings in Montreal, their AC is not keeping up. I was sweating a lot by the end of the meal. Our waitress was super nice, helpful & knowledgeable about the menu & wines. I was impressed. My special Flank Steak with wild mushrooms, zucchini & a shrimp sauce was a total delight. Flavors just burst in my mouth, albeit a tad over salted. One of my companions also commented on the over salting of his cod.
The French Toast dessert was huge. Alas, way over sweet & nothing to write home about. Didn't say it was super sweet?
I happened to be in the area & wanted French food for lunch. I didn't expect it to have a Michelin recommendation! I also saw the poster written by the friends of the architect, Luc Laporte. They had impressive words to say about him.
Reservations: probably recommended to make reservations ahead of time, but I was able to walk in on a weekday around noon without one. The place looked like it was getting full by 13:00.
Service: our server was great with providing recommendations & noting what are popular dishes. He explained that the beef cheeks is a winter dish. Unfortunately we didn't get to try it.
Food:
Complimentary bread & butter
CLASSIC SALMON TARTARE (appetizer, CAD$25.50)- delicious, refreshing, cold
ICELANDIC WILD COD (main dish, CAD$53.50)- fish was seared perfectly, flavorful potato puree, warm cherry tomatoes
GRILLED VEAL CHOP (main dish, CAD$68.50)- veal was cooked medium rare, thick slices of heirloom tomato, interesting nutty sauce
I thoroughly enjoyed each dish. I didn't expect much, so I was pleasantly surprised. This might have been the best restaurant in my short Montreal visit.

Wonderful service & a delicious meal. One of the best beef tartare dishes we've ever experienced. Delicious steak & frites. The maple French toast for dessert was unreal!
I've been to Lemeac everytime I've come to Montreal. We tried their Fish Soup, minestrone, Grilled calamari, mushroom ravioli, beef tartare, duck confit, mushroom risotto, profiteroles & banana sticky toffee pudding. Top dishes were the ravioli, beef tartare & duck confit. We reserved on the same day but could only get a 9.30pm reservation. Would definitely recommend booking earlier. Service was good & ambiance is always pleasant. Would recommend if you're looking for a casual French restaurant. 💯
Lovely lunch at Leméac! The classic salad was crisp & refreshing, the asparagus perfectly cooked, & the salmon tartare was fresh & delicious. The pasta was rich & satisfying, paired beautifully with a smooth latte. Ended on a sweet note with a delicate macaron. Timeless French bistro charm & excellent service-Montreal at its best!
This was a highly recommended French restaurant in Montreal. Weekends are always booked, & reservations are needed.
The ambiance was nice, perfect for a dim romantic dinner. Although, don't expect it to be a quiet place as it's buzzing with energy & conversations.
We had the foie gras, beef tartare, crunchy goat cheese, & the moulle fritte. I liked everything except for the mussels. I thought the broth missed the mark, & some of the mussels were slightly undercooked since it was still translucent. I didn't feel safe eating it all.
Service was also pretty slow. Took 30 minutes for us to get the main course. We didn't get any drinks, but they seem fancy enough. Overall, for 4 dishes, we paid CAD150.
Excellent dining experience. Wonderful service. The food is wonderful & executed perfectly. We had the tartare de beouf, hareng fumé, coquilles saint-jacques & bavette de beouf. Everything cooked & seasoned perfectly. Nice wine list. Want to try their French toast dessert next time. Will be back!
Everything is good except the ribeye steak. It was very chewy & nothing special about it. French toast is excellent! Escargot is good as well as the service.
Very popular & well renowned. The service is very professional, efficient & polite. The poached eggs were good; the omelette & the French fries were'plain'; ... not up to standard.
April 39, 2025: back for dinner. Excellent food, good service, noisy environment. We had crabes des neiges & soupe minestrone for entrées. Foie de veau, bavette de boeuf & moules & frites. Cafe & dessert du moment.
Great restaurant in what felt like a very upscale neighborhood in Montreal. Great wine list & their food was a blend of classic French dishes with Montreal touches. Dessert was really amazing there.
