Le Surcouf is a welcoming French restaurant established in a Victorian home for over 45 years now. Dominique and the chef Serge will be pleased to help you discover the fine French classic cuisine. In the fall the restaurant offers a special game menu in addition to their regular table d'hôte that you create yourself.
Reviews consistently celebrate Le Surcouf for superb traditional French cuisine, artful presentation, and a warm, intimate atmosphere inside an old house with a fireplace that makes dining feel special. Service is described as professional, attentive, and friendly, with knowledgeable staff guiding wine choices and accommodating dietary needs including gluten free options. Many describe it as a West Island gem and a prime spot for anniversaries, family gatherings, and memorable evenings, offering both a refined carte and a reasonably priced Bistro menu. Decor and ambiance receive frequent praise, with quiet, cozy dining rooms, local art, and a welcoming feel that invites lingering. While a few reviews note busier nights can bring noise or slower pacing, the overall consensus is that Le Surcouf delivers consistently high quality, generous portions, and thoughtful touches that keep guests returning. Overall, guests emphasize that the combination of cuisine, service, and setting makes Le Surcouf one of the standout French dining experiences in the area.
Cuisine de qualité & d'un raffinement peu ordinaires dans l'Ouest-de l'Île, & donc un oasis de civilisation entouré d'un désert de restauration rapide. Très apprécié!
Our best dining experience in the last 12 months.
This restaurant is QUIET. What a welcome change from the usual where you can't even hear your own thoughts let alone your companions voice!
Charming, unassuming artwork-adorned atmosphere in an old house. Beautiful.
Service was impeccable- there when they ought to be & not there otherwise. Perfect timing on everything from ordering to service.
Portion sizes were perfect as well with amuse-bouche & palate cleanser served without needing to order. Just perfect. Warm goat cheese with walnuts was delicious!
The chateaubriand was cooked to perfection. The molten chocolate cake rich & not too sweet. The only reason I didn't rate food 5 stars was the vegetables - the potato's & green beans were simply steamed - a little boring & plain. But the mushrooms were excellent!
There were many items on this menu that I'd choose ; we will definitely return to this resto within the next 3 months & highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys classic cuisine in a peaceful atmosphere. Perfect date night spot.

This restaurant has been our regular haunt for the past 26 years. Always has wonderful food, & a warm fireplace in the winter months to add to the ye olde world cozy atmosphere. A veranda section is equally great in summer or winter. Their Bistro menu makes it reasonably affordable, but does not compromise on quality of the cuisine as is offered on their a la carte, both of which have always been most enticing. Last night's experience was equally enjoyable with my two French guests, whose culinary senses were fully satisfied with the main course of pork with camembert & apple sauce, & cuts of beef beautifully presented, accompanied with a nice bottle of the house Bordeaux, followed by their killer profiteroles, & mi-cuit de chocolat as finishing desserts! Highly recommended for anyone who likes a great night out, one you will remember for a long time to come.
