Le Surcouf is a welcoming French restaurant established in a Victorian home for over 45 years now. Dominique and the chef Serge will be pleased to help you discover the fine French classic cuisine. In the fall the restaurant offers a special game menu in addition to their regular table d'hôte that you create yourself.
Reviews consistently celebrate Le Surcouf for superb traditional French cuisine, artful presentation, and a warm, intimate atmosphere inside an old house with a fireplace that makes dining feel special. Service is described as professional, attentive, and friendly, with knowledgeable staff guiding wine choices and accommodating dietary needs including gluten free options. Many describe it as a West Island gem and a prime spot for anniversaries, family gatherings, and memorable evenings, offering both a refined carte and a reasonably priced Bistro menu. Decor and ambiance receive frequent praise, with quiet, cozy dining rooms, local art, and a welcoming feel that invites lingering. While a few reviews note busier nights can bring noise or slower pacing, the overall consensus is that Le Surcouf delivers consistently high quality, generous portions, and thoughtful touches that keep guests returning. Overall, guests emphasize that the combination of cuisine, service, and setting makes Le Surcouf one of the standout French dining experiences in the area.
Very busy night. Full restaurant. New waitress ( 2 months) named Victoria. Everything was amazing. The staff including our'new' Victoria were pleasant, friendly & very efficient. Smooth in every way. A favourite that keeps getting better.

We live in Ottawa, but for many years now we have come to Le Surcouf for my husbands Birthday dinner in June, usually with some friends. We have traveled a lot in our business life, but Le Surcouf remains one of our most favourite Restaurants, one that checks all the boxes for Food, Service, Atmosphere & Price.
5*****All the Way - Highly recommended!!
We hadn't been in a couple of years although it was always a favourite. Glad to see the quality & service are still at 100%. These days it's not easy to find traditional French cuisine...everything is molecular this, gastronomic that... usually some celebrity chef-du-Jour showing off his cooking skills. But Le Surcouf remains true to its origins & purpose...outstanding traditional French cuisine. Sure, the flourishes & extra touches are there, but the backbone is wonderful taste sparing no expense in terrific ingredients. After all, where can you still get a whole sole Meunière, filleted & cleaned table-side. Or crepe suzettes flambeed before your eyes. Not that I mind creative cuisine, but it's always good to get back to the traditions that set the stage for everyone else. Le Surcouf is a West-Island gem that can compete with the best of downtown, & in a gorgeous setting. I needed smelling salts when I saw the bill, but it was worth it!
Le Surcouf is the essence of a fine dining restaurant, without the expectation of having to wear a suit or a dress to get in. It has been one of my favourite places to go for celebrations or quiet candle-lit dinners for over 20 years.

We were surprised to find the restaurant incredibly busy for a Wednesday evening in mid-October. As busy as it was, the service was friendly, unrushed, & the food as delicious & impeccably displayed as always. We've been patrons for 35 years & Le Surcouf remains our favourite restaurant.
Had an absolutely delicious meal, great service, perfect ambience, to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
This is my husband's & my favourite restaurant on the West Island. We recommend it highly whenever we are given the opportunity!😊

Le Surcouf is our favourite restaurant. My husband says it reminds him of restaurants when we lived in London: Authentic French restaurants.
We always enjoy the food. My daughter has Celiac Disease & their menu is sensitive to gluten free food. Its her favourite restaurant too.
The wine list is extensive & well-priced. We had a wine at Le Surcouf from the vineyard where our son was on honeymoon. We also enjoy their Loire & South African wines.
Le Surcouf is our favourite restaurant in the West Island of Montreal. Very quaint & elegant. Owner & staff, food, ambience - everything is TOPs. Fabulous French cuisine with innovative delicious dishes. Lots of variety. Even the bathrooms are quaint & super clean. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Our most favourite restaurant!!! Everything is always wonderful. Food is delicious & service is excellent. Delightful ambience! Highly recommend dining here.
We had yet another excellent dining experience at one of our top favourite restaurants. Generally, including this time, we opt for the seafood special. ...excellent. ...& all gluten free for us. Our next visit will be before long.
Our favourite restaurant never disappoints! Reliable gluten free options make dining there such a pleasure. The special accommodations they made for us on a busy night were greatly appreciated.
Le Surcouf is our favourite upscale restaurant, because the service is polite, respectful, helpful & friendly. &.... The food is always amazingly wonderful.
