Brunch dates are funny sometimes… because this one almost didn't happen. 😅
We originally started at Larry's, which is only a few minutes from my dance class. The plan was simple: a nice brunch, good conversation, & a relaxing afternoon.
Unfortunately, the experience there was disappointing from the moment we sat down.
My date ordered a coffee. A coffee. Somehow, after almost an hour, it still hadn't arrived. Every time I asked for something, it felt like I was asking for too much. The energy felt off, & the service left a lot to be desired.
The only thing that made it to our table was my Patrón Sour, which was about $20 & honestly the only thing we ended up consuming before deciding to leave.
So we called an Uber & headed to Darling.
Best decision of the day.
The moment we arrived, the atmosphere completely shifted. Darling has this beautiful eclectic aesthetic that blends art deco influences with playful artistic touches throughout the space. Even the bathrooms feel like part of the experience. Each stall features unique artwork, almost like stepping into a tiny gallery. One of them featured a devil-inspired piece that was bold, mischievous, & impossible not to notice. It added personality & charm to a space most restaurants completely overlook.
Now let's talk about the food.
We started with a dozen oysters because if oysters are available during brunch hours, I'm ordering them. Period. Fresh, delicious, & exactly what I was craving.
10/10 for having oysters on the brunch menu.
For my cocktail, I chose a French Martini made with Chambord. It was fruity, smooth, & easy to drink. Not the best French Martini I've ever had, but definitely enjoyable.

For brunch, I ordered the Mushroom Benedict.
If you've been running around all day, haven't eaten, & need something comforting, creamy, rich, & filling, this is absolutely the dish to get. The mushrooms were flavorful, the sauce was indulgent without being overwhelming, & every bite felt satisfying.

One thing that surprised me was the salad served alongside it. The vinaigrette had a noticeable ginger element that added brightness & depth to the entire dish. Such a small detail, but one that elevated the experience.
& then there's the service.
Alexia took care of our table & she was wonderful. Warm smile, attentive without hovering, positive energy, & genuinely pleasant throughout the entire meal.
Service rating: 10/10 ⭐
I've been to Darling before for dinner & absolutely loved it. This was my first real brunch experience there, & once again they didn't disappoint.
The only thing missing?
My beloved Brussels sprouts.
Looks like I'll have to come back for those.

My partner & I loved this place, we had the most incredible server. The food, the ambience, the kind service! I definitely recommend if you are either visiting or a local!
C'était vraiment incroyable j'ai vraiment adoré! J'y étais avec mes copains & on a tous bien aimé. Super belle endroit pour passer un bon moment chill en famille ou entre amis.& c'était super bon SHOUTOUT à Benjamin pour son très bon service à la clientèle & sa belle humeur jvais carrément revenir & je recommande fortement.
Assez déçue de ma dernière visite ce dimanche 17 mai …pourtant j'adore cet endroit … un bagel carbonisé sur les bords, la cuisine composée de 4 jeunes femmes n'a pas pris la peine de changer le pain elles ont juste gratté la partie cramée. Le parfait était d'une acidité folle même en mélangeant c'était vraiment immangeable… je ne sais pas ce qui a changé mais la qualité de la nourriture s'est dégradée … à revoir.

The best place to have a nice meal, fancy coffee or matcha & even a drink alcoholic & non alcoholic, beautiful & funky decor with really nice service. A must visit while in Montreal
Belle ambiance convivial avec un menu diversifié. Un endroit pour bruncher, un diner d'affaire, ecouter une game ou simplement prendre un verre.

Best spot in Montréal. Food is unpretentious but creative & absolutely delicious. Atmosphere is gorgeous & eclectic. Visited twice while we were in Montreal. Service is slightly slow but staff is friendly.
Great neighbourhood bar for us that live on the Plateau. I like the place most when it's not really busy, but during the Thursday, Friday & Saturday afternoons/evenings it's going to get busy & loud. If you're meeting friends there, like I said, nice place, but too loud for discussions. More of a party bar when later in the evening. I've eaten there twice & I will not do that again. Surprised how they represent the kitchen as a part of the place & it's not really good.
Then the beer. I always go for the draught beer & I have to admit that I'm disappointed in the Boréale selection they have, which I have to admit I don't like at all, but I have noticed that more & more pubs in the area offer this beer which is so far from a proper European beer & it's a bit sad to think about what beer drinkers here are missing out on.
Had some lovely drinks with a dear friend at the bar on April 19th & the bartenders Sacha & Simon were truly so lovely & superb! Full of great laughter & the atmosphere was so welcome! Would come back here when I am back in town!
Super belle découverte au Darling Bar. L'ambiance est vraiment agréable, l'endroit était plein lors de notre visite mais le service est resté rapide & efficace, ce qui est toujours apprécié. Le décor est funky, original & donne beaucoup de personnalité au lieu. Bref, un très bel endroit pour prendre un verre & passer une bonne soirée entre amis. Je recommande ! 🍸
