Review Summary

Le Bar Darling is widely celebrated for its eclectic, vintage, and art-deco inspired atmosphere, making it a visually stunning destination that resonates with locals and tourists alike. Many visitors praise the establishment as an ideal spot for brunch, romantic dates, or casual evenings, often highlighting the creative cocktails, fresh oysters, and flavorful small plates. While the majority of guests report friendly and attentive service, experiences can vary during peak hours when the venue becomes crowded and noisy. Although most diners find the food quality exceptional, opinions on portion sizes and menu pricing are mixed, with some noting that certain dishes lack expected sides or that specific kitchen policies regarding modifications can feel restrictive. Overall, it remains a highly recommended neighborhood staple for those seeking a unique, lively, and aesthetically memorable experience in Montreal.

Brunch dates are funny sometimes… because this one almost didn't happen. 😅

We originally started at Larry's, which is only a few minutes from my dance class. The plan was simple: a nice brunch, good conversation, & a relaxing afternoon.

Unfortunately, the experience there was disappointing from the moment we sat down.

My date ordered a coffee. A coffee. Somehow, after almost an hour, it still hadn't arrived. Every time I asked for something, it felt like I was asking for too much. The energy felt off, & the service left a lot to be desired.

The only thing that made it to our table was my Patrón Sour, which was about $20 & honestly the only thing we ended up consuming before deciding to leave.

So we called an Uber & headed to Darling.

Best decision of the day.

The moment we arrived, the atmosphere completely shifted. Darling has this beautiful eclectic aesthetic that blends art deco influences with playful artistic touches throughout the space. Even the bathrooms feel like part of the experience. Each stall features unique artwork, almost like stepping into a tiny gallery. One of them featured a devil-inspired piece that was bold, mischievous, & impossible not to notice. It added personality & charm to a space most restaurants completely overlook.

Now let's talk about the food.

We started with a dozen oysters because if oysters are available during brunch hours, I'm ordering them. Period. Fresh, delicious, & exactly what I was craving.

10/10 for having oysters on the brunch menu.

For my cocktail, I chose a French Martini made with Chambord. It was fruity, smooth, & easy to drink. Not the best French Martini I've ever had, but definitely enjoyable.

Drink rating: 8.5/10 🍸

For brunch, I ordered the Mushroom Benedict.

If you've been running around all day, haven't eaten, & need something comforting, creamy, rich, & filling, this is absolutely the dish to get. The mushrooms were flavorful, the sauce was indulgent without being overwhelming, & every bite felt satisfying.

Dish rating: 9.5/10 🍳

One thing that surprised me was the salad served alongside it. The vinaigrette had a noticeable ginger element that added brightness & depth to the entire dish. Such a small detail, but one that elevated the experience.

& then there's the service.

Alexia took care of our table & she was wonderful. Warm smile, attentive without hovering, positive energy, & genuinely pleasant throughout the entire meal.

Service rating: 10/10 ⭐

I've been to Darling before for dinner & absolutely loved it. This was my first real brunch experience there, & once again they didn't disappoint.

The only thing missing?

My beloved Brussels sprouts.

Looks like I'll have to come back for those.

Overall rating: 9.5/10

Their brunch is delicious. Tasty, with nice little details, like the perfect salad dressing & potato spices. Beautiful decor, servers & customers, all with that sweet bird of youth, & lovely accents still apparent.

I went there on Saturday for its burgers but then realized they only serve burger weekdays. I had brunch & it was decent. I would rate service & atmosphere better than the food.

Went with friends for brunch & I was a bit disappointed unfortunately. I got the smoked salmon eggs Benedict; both the hollandaise sauce & the mayo were weirdly sour. The potatoes were somewhat bland. The eggs were cooked well however & the salmon was also good. Great ambience & service.
