Lawrence consistently earns high praise for its exceptional tasting menus, which feature fresh, seasonal ingredients and flawless execution. Guests frequently highlight the intimate, cozy ambiance and the knowledgeable staff who provide attentive, professional service, often noting the restaurant's commendable no-tipping policy. While the experience is widely regarded as a world-class culinary art form, some diners mention that the meal pacing can be leisurely due to the solo kitchen operation and express a desire for more à la carte options. Overall, the restaurant is considered a must-visit destination in Montreal, celebrated for its bold flavors, impressive wine selections, and unique, unpretentious charm.

Outstanding. I would be surprised if they don't get the Michelin star next year. Super fresh, seasonal ingredients, flawless execution & impressive wine selection. The staff made us feel very welcome, like eating at your best friend's place who also happens to be a world class chef & sommelier.

I went to Lawrence last evening with high expectation since a friend recommended it as one of montreal's best restaurant. Every one of the nine meals I was served confirmed my friend was right! The chef is a real artist, each dish had so much work & passion in them & the wine selection was a perfect match. Anybody who's passionate about food need try this hidden gem!!!

Our dinner at Lawrence was outstanding. The restaurant is perfectly sized to feel special & intimate without being cramped. All the staff we interacted with were so kind & knowledgeable. Our primary server recommended an excellent alcohol-free sparkling wine that suited the meal perfectly. We were blown away by every single dish. We have had tasting menus all over the world & it's very rare to come across one where every single course is a hit. One of the guests in our party had some dietary restrictions that the chef & team accommodated very well. We will absolutely be back & would recommend to everyone. Thank you for being the highlight of our stay in Montreal

Admittedly a long time favourite of mine since their Sparrow beginnings. Their wine list spectacular & full of surprises & will not disappoint regardless of the price point. I don't understand how they didn't get a star or a bib gourmand & I've been to a fair few around the world whose cuisine I consider less impressive in comparison.

An extraordinary experience. That perfect balance of unique & delicious food in an environment that's nice without being pretentious. Excellent wines as well. Shocked it's still fairly straightforward to get a reservation.

Lawrence (Montréal) - a namesake worth a toast

As a fellow Lawrence, I wanted this to sing. It does-mostly in mushrooms & in the glass. The kitchen leans into the forest with conviction: mushrooms arrive bronzed & breathing, all savour & slip, the sauce holding that dark, quiet bassline you only get from patient pan work. It's cooking with memory-restraint, heat control, & the courage to stop when the flavour says'enough.' The wine list meets that umami with intelligence; we drank widely by the glass & found pairing after pairing that nudged the dishes forward without grandstanding. Service was crisp, calm, & properly paced; the room gives you time to talk & time to taste.

Two laments. First, the shift away from à la carte. A set format can be tidy, but Lawrence used to be a place where you could shape the night plate by plate; now it feels slightly prescribed. Second, the quiet disappearance of organs & offal-particularly brains. Some of us came here for that exact candour. Bring back the courage cuts; they're part of the restaurant's soul.

On policy: I love the no-tips model. Pay your team properly; let guests think about food & wine rather than calculus. Still, a small grace note goes a long way. A welcomed pour, a little dish from the pass-some acknowledgment for engaged regulars & joyful eaters (Melanie & me very much included) would seal the hospitality.

Verdict: Lawrence remains one of Montréal's essential rooms-beautiful when the cooking stays close to the pan & the wines roam. Restore the à la carte freedom & the offal, & it will be unmissable. We'll be back, name on the door & appetite in hand. ?

One of the best dining experiences my husband & I have ever had. From the food (blew us away), to the wine pairings, to the service (the kindest & coolest people) to the ambiance - it was such a treat. Highly recommend checking out Lawrence. It's nothing short of remarkable.

You'll feel right at home in this cosy restaurant with its open kitchen. The tasting menu is simply fabolous amd comes with a brisk wine pairing. Most importantly, everyone loves to chat about their profession & their produce in an unpretentious way.
