You never felt hurried & each dish was explained in detail. The sommelier made an excellent pairing since I am not as familiar with French wines, & he kept the bottle & decided to pour when he felt it appropriate. The waiter & two chefs also spent considerable time with us to ensure everything was to our liking. I thought each tasting was amazing except for the beef at the end which was a little tough & stringy. The dessert tasting was also awesome. While it was one of the finest dining experiences we have ever had, it was also one of the most expensive. So be prepared.
There are just so many better places in Montreal to spend your money. The food here was so mid for some of the highest prices we have seen since moving to the city. I would not normally go into such detail but for over $300 (from the a la carte, thank god we didn't do the tasting), I think people should know what they are getting. The service was ok, but not great. The constant upselling & near condescending way that the wine & menu items were described to us came off as quite pretentious; & frankly, laughable once we actually tried the food. Bless him, our server tried but unfortunately it was just overall awkward. The restaurant itself had no atmosphere. It's just white walls with some generic abstract canvases & the music ranged from Charlotte Cardin, to background jazz, to nothing at all. Both of my partners dishes (the sweetbreads & duck) had no seasoning, & I would wager his duck was left in the sous vide too long as it had a near mushy texture. My starter (tuna) tasted like straight up lime juice, the fish was not fresh tasting, the pieces were not even cut all the way through, & it was missing some elements (which I didn't notice until someone next to us ordered the same thing & it looked different). My main (the steak) was ok, but the ratatouille it came with was so overcooked it was all one colour of mush. For $58 I expect much better. The best thing we had was the wine, of which they do have a large selection, & the bread ($5 charge) was decent but certainly not mind blowing. The final kicker was when we paid & the server told us to choose one of the tip percentages on the bill (starting at 20%). *Disclaimer that we had a treater gift card which covered a lot of the bill so we were significantly less pissed & we ended up just laughing it off & leaving, but we will not go back & do not recommend.
Superb high end french cuisine. Exceptional tasting menu with wine pairing. Among the best in Montreal. Hard to see how you can go wrong with this place.
The food was creative & pretty good but didn't quite justify the price, in my opinion. The servers were friendly, attentive, & helped us English speaking types understand the menu thoroughly. I'm not sure if it was bad timing as there seemed to be a large party upstairs but we got the tasting menu & it took over 2.5 hours to complete our meal. The time between course servings was very long (30+ minutes). The staff was apologetic about it so they at least recognized this.
Outstanding French cuisine! We read an article describing la Chronique as a classic French restaurant, but it was actually quite modern & creative. The dishes were dilicious & beautifully presented. We had the five-courae menu with wine tasting, & the pairing wines were complementing the dishes as well. Definitely recommend.

Everything about this place is breathtaking - the food, the service & - unfortunately - the prices!
You go to La Chronique for uncompromising high cuisine - it's the kind of place where Dinner & Art meet.
Though everything in our 7-course tasting menu was extraordinary, if I had to pick a standout it was the dessert selection. It's rare, if you ask me, for dessert to be the highlight of an exceptionally good meal, but La Chronique's sweets were just out of this world.
Absolutely go - but preferably on an expense account! (Or go for lunch, when prices fall back down from the eveningtime stratosphere.)

UPDATE: Just went back to this place for the first time since they moved to their new location.
The new dining room is far more in tune with the style of cooking than the old one across the street used to be: contemporary, understated, cool & very, very stylish.
Lunchtime menu prices are not the paycheck-sapping monstruosities of the evening menu, & meals are a bit less elaborate, but the quality is the same. I've never had risotto so well made before, & I used to live in Italy.
La Chronique is everything a Fancy Restaurant should be. These guys are not foolin' around.
