La Cave à Manger est une adresse intime du Vieux-Montréal où les pâtisseries font l’unanimité, croissants croustillants et rouleaux pistache, éclair au chocolat et pains au chocolat étant souvent cités parmi les favoris; l’offre sucrée se mêle à des options salées comme des sandwiches et une pizza, le tout servi par un personnel chaleureux et efficace. Le cadre est petit et parfois en sous-sol, ce qui peut limiter les places assises, mais l’ambiance cosy et la terrasse extérieure compensent largement. Les avis saluent la qualité constante et le goût riche, avec des prix un peu élevés justifiés par le savoir-faire, et l’accueil qui pousse les visiteurs à revenir. En somme, une étape incontournable du quartier malgré une fréquentation variable selon l’heure et la saison.
We stayed nearby & loved coming here each morning before walking along the river. Our 6-year old begged to return for another croissant. Loved the fresh jus d'orange too!
A great casual dining spot located in a very central location in Bonsecours Market in Old Montreal. We stopped here during a late summer day at the port & had an excellent meal with prompt service.
We had a plain Croissant, Croissant Aux Amandes, Tomates Sechees & Pour Ici Pizza Slices &, freshly squeezed orange juice & 3 bottles of water which totaled $40.79 CAD. If I had more room, I would have definitely have had a Chocolat Chaud as well!
The boulangerie also sells their freshly baked breads wholesale to other retail dining establishments so they are well-known & well-regarded.
PROS
- Great central location in Old Montreal.
- Friendly, chill staff.
- Great food & a decent value, given the location. Most of the restaurants in the area are much pricier options.
- Nice outdoor, covered sitting area.
CONS
- Small indoor dining area.
- Outdoor sitting tables tuned over quickly & were not cleaned as frequently which attracted wasps / bees.
La Cave a Manger is a highly recommended casual dining spot when you are in Old Montreal & I will certainly be back.
I don't know if we ordered wrong or what, but was unfortunately underwhelmed. Pistachio croissant tasted nothing like pistachio. Pan au chocolat lacked sweetness & flavor. Almond croissant was the best thing we got. Everything seemed to be baked fresh in house & service was great.
Une amie m'a recommandé d'essayer le croissant crème glacé, bon je suis un peu déçue. Le croissant n'était pas si frais & pour la crème elle était bonne, toutefois pour mettre plus de saveur pourquoi pas mettre crème de pistache, chocolat ou autres garnitures dans le croissant, ça donnerait plus de goût, ça vaudrait le prix - petite suggestion 😉

The pastries? Flaky, buttery, & borderline addictive. Their pistachio roll is a quiet masterpiece, & the croissants are textbook perfect. But it's not just about the sweets-grab a jambon beurre or a slice of their pepperoni pizza & you'll understand why locals whisper about this place like it's sacred.
& then there's the wine. A curated selection of natural bottles that pair beautifully with whatever you're nibbling on. Whether you're popping in for a quick bite or lingering on the terrace with a glass in hand, it never disappoints.
Incredible pastries, the almond/ chocolate croissant is filled to the brim. We went twice in 3 days & I wish I could go back. Watch where you sit on the outdoor benches, they are covered in bird shit.
Absolutely loved the croissants here! If you're in Montreal & craving something fresh & buttery, this spot is a must. So fresh & so delicious highly recommended!

still thinking about our lovely breakfast here & missing this place already.
We visited one early morning on a tuesday so it was still nice & peaceful. We went down the steps to a cozy bakery with a few seating inside & friendly staff. The pastries were made fresh & we got to enjoy a perfectly cooked smoked salmon sandwich, ham & cheese & fresh-out-the-oven pistachio croissant rolls! everything was sooo good! simple but quite satisfying for some reason.
Outside seating is a delight if you dont mind cleaning up some bird poo a bit so you can sit comfortably. Overall we really had a great time.
It would be nice to have the garbage bins moved to a location not by the steps though. But I get that maybe a'high-traffic' area would be best so the birds dont mess with it too much.
if you stop by, definitely try their croissant rolls!! the pistachio one was just amazing!
La Cave à Manger Boulangerie in Old Montréal is an iconic, rustic patisserie that's definitely worth a visit! They offer a highly curated selection of pastries, & we went for the chocolate croissant éclairs & the tiramisu croissant roll. Both were absolutely delicious-the fillings were rich & flavorful, & the pastries themselves were fresh, flaky, & buttery without being overly sweet. Every bite was a delight!
I also loved the ambiance of the place. It's rustic & charming, with a perfect outdoor seating area to enjoy your treats. It's a great spot to relax & take in the vibe of the Old Port. I'll definitely be back to try more of their amazing pastries!
Top pastry choice for when visiting Montreal. Their chocolate eclairs are unreal, so rich in flavor. Croissants are fluffy, & crispy, at the same time which was perfect. Nice European-style patio outside to enjoy your food. Great service - friendly, fast, & efficient. Would definitely be coming back here again!
🥐'Tree Ring' Croissant - Very sweet, with a gooey filling that oozes out from the center. If you like dessert-level sweetness, this one's for you - but it was a bit much for me.
🍫 Long Chocolate Croissant - Loved this one! Not overly sweet, & the chocolate filling in the middle was perfectly balanced. Definitely my favorite of the two. 💯
