Tucked into the cobblestoned charm of Old Montreal, La Cave à Manger Boulangerie feels like the kind of place you wander into on a whim & leave remembering for all the right reasons. I stopped in near closing time on a small but meaningful mission: to find a birthday treat for a friend, ideally something kissed with pistachio. By then, their pistachio pastries had already sold out, hardly a surprise, but my momentary disappointment didn't go unnoticed.
The gentleman behind the counter met it with an easy warmth that defines great neighborhood bakeries. Along with the chocolatine & almond croissant I chose, both impeccably flaky, buttery, & deeply satisfying, he tucked in a cookie on the house. It was a small gesture, but one that spoke volumes about the care & attentiveness here. Service like that turns a good bakery into a beloved one.
Most importantly, the pastries landed exactly as hoped. My friend was very happy. In the end, La Cave à Manger delivered more than dessert. It delivered generosity, quality, & a reminder that hospitality can be just as memorable as what's in the pastry case.
Loved this place! Such a cozy bakery with a warm, welcoming vibe & kind staff. The pastries were absolutely delicious. I'm a big fan of pain au chocolat (or chocolatine, as we say in Québec 😄), & this one truly lived up to the hype, one of those pastries you see in TikTok videos & immediately want to try. It tasted heavenly: flaky, buttery, & perfectly balanced.
The space itself is small & intimate, with just a few chairs, but there are standing counters as well, which makes it comfortable for a quick stop. Overall, a lovely spot for high quality pastries & a cozy moment, I'll definitely be back!
The pistachio croissant & salmon sandwich were delicious. I want to return & try everything else. The coffee was normal, not extraordinary (cappuccino).
Really good coffee. The service is very pleasant. María is super friendly & attentive, & she took the time to calmly listen when I told her about my lactose intolerance.
Unfortunately not impressed by the food as their matcha latte is just undrinkable. Too bitter & no taste of coconut milk. The service is very friendly & forward: very happy with how they handled our complaint. The pastries were ok-ish. We had the pistachio pastry: the dough is too dry to our taste as well as the dough of the eclair. The atmosphere in the shop is cosy & cute, but small. For 4 items we paid 50$.
Hot chocolate with toasted marshmallow was tasty, but quite pricey (around $9+ for an average cup size). Limited seating & noticed other items were also pricey.
A nice little gem in the middle of many tourist shops. The staff was making fresh bagels in the morning & were very helpful & accommodating.
J'ADORE la Cave à manger! Tout est bon, surtout les rolls, & le service est génial - merci Abdul & Pavel pour votre générosité aussi! ❤?❤?❤?
One of the best in Montreal. Love their pastries. A small cozy place in the heart of old port. A must visit place
Every time I'm in Montreal, I have to make a stop at La Cave à Manger. It's tucked away in a pretty touristy area, & even my friends doubted the quality at first because they figured it would be overpriced tourist stuff. Then they took one bite & instantly changed their minds. The baked goods are legit, the quality is undeniable, & it always ends up being one of our favourite stops in the city.
Fantastic bagels & service. One day we arrived an hour before closing to get our sesame bagel fix & they gave us extra bagels & bread at no extra cost. Went back the next day for 5 bagels & they hooked us up with a half dozen price (cheaper).
We were only in the city for a few days & indulged on several bagel places, but this one was easily the best in terms of flavour & service. We always ate them plain & were seriously impressed by how flavourful their bagels were. We'll be returning when we visit Montreal again!
