Review Summary

Reviews describe Joie de Livres as a cozy, magical bookstore cafe with a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes time slow down as shelves are browsed. The concept of a cafe and library hybrid is praised for offering a wide selection across fantasy, romance, horror, and other genres. Staff are consistently portrayed as friendly and attentive, providing helpful recommendations and a welcoming first impression. Occasional crowds or limited seating are cited as drawbacks when the space gets busy, with some guests finding the dining area cramped. Drinks and snacks are highlighted as a strength, with many noting delicious lattes, chai, cocktails, and desserts, though a few reviews mention higher prices. The ambiance is repeatedly described as calm, cozy, and conducive to reading, with decor that blends bookish charm with creative flair. Readers appreciate the bilingual book selection and the chance to explore titles in different languages within the same visit. Overall, Joie de Livres stands out as a must visit Montreal spot that blends literary discovery with hospitality, while suggestions to improve seating and crowd flow could further elevate the experience.

Beautiful bookstore! My first visit & they have a huge selection of romance in every sub genre. They even have some other fiction sub genres in the back as well as a kids section. We didn't get to try the cafe.

This is my favourite café in Montréal, & honestly an incredible place-especially for someone like me who loves fantasy & science-fiction books.

Today, though, it was packed. Two people were sitting at a table meant for four, with their coats & books spread everywhere. I asked the staff if something could be done, but nothing happened, so I ended up leaving.

I totally understand this kind of thing when the café is quiet, but when it's busy, it feels reasonable to ask two people to use a smaller table so others can sit too.

This bookshop is honestly the kind of place I'd dreamed of ever since I was young. The decor is so cozy & inviting & had some dark academia flair to it. The book selection feels tailored to my personal reading tastes, with their focus on speculative fiction & romance. Not to mention, a café bar right inside the bookstore? Absolute perfection. Being able to sip a fun cocktail & taking in the atmosphere, mulling over all the interesting titles we'd been browsing, was such a nice date activity. The staff is also very nice & friendly! I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
