November 28, 2019: Terrible service & poor decision made by management which made Jatoba lose $30,000+ in business. 🙄?We ordered many cocktails & at least 1 bottle of wine plus many dishes. Our bill for two people was around $350. Both myself & my business associate frequent Jatoba often. We (our company's) have spent over $30,000 annually at Jatoba. (& that's not counting the referrals we make). We often bring clients & our employees to Jatoba. One of the dishes was a lobster plate. It had 4 small pieces of lobster spread apart & that part with the legs that you can't really eat much of which we didn't. I took my first bite & told my companion that something tasted off but we kept chatting & drinking as we were discussing a serious business matter. He had a lot to drink & his taste buds were not the best. I took 1 more bite after drinking water & this time I knew the lobster was stale. It tasted like ammonia. Our waiter was advised that the lobster was bad & we shared the details with him. I even told him I felt sick & dizzy which was true. He took the dish, didn't apologize or say anything & continued to bring us our other dishes & drinks. When the bill came we saw that the $52 lobster was on the dish. We thought that this was bold & unprofessional considering we told the waiter the lobster was stale. We called him over & he said he cannot do anything because most of the fish had been eaten. This response was also unprofessional. I asked him to call the manager over (dark hair, short beard, glasses) to discuss this. He was arrogant & said that the chef could not validate if what we were saying was true as there was not much left so he could not remove the charge. To begin with, the portion was so small. & we shared it. So naturally if both people take 1 bite at least 50% of the meal is already gone.
My companion told the manager that we dine at Jatoba all the time & we bring many clients to the restaurant & spend a lot of money there. & he also said that if the $50 charge is removed we will continue to come & spend a substantial amount of money at Jatoba. But if it's not removed neither of us, nor anyone from our company's, will come back. The manager stated he would not remove the charge. So since Nov 28 we have not been back. But where we have been (Marcus, le Bremner, Beatrice, Maison Boulud, Milos, Damas, Da'Emma, Fishbone, Lucille's, Monarque, Bouillon Bilk, etc) since then has tallied about $12,000 & counting. The holiday dinners are still underway. One more that's coming up has a budget of $5,000. We would have gone to Jatoba had that $52 been removed. Also, several colleagues & clients suggested Jatoba & we told them what happened & how we are boycotting Jatoba for their poor & unprofessional demeanour. They stated they would do the same. Very disappointing Jatoba.

Endroit magnifique!
Les plantes, la verrière, la luminosité: magique!
Toutefois, le rapport qualité/prix ne passe pas le test. Une carte midi serait une excellente façon d'y pallier.

While I've considered Jatoba as a solid option for lunch, I found that this time around, the Black Cod was surprisingly underseasoned & barely had any miso flavor. Given that this dish is $28 (at lunch time) I expected it to be top notch. Hopefully, Jatoba continues to deliver & doesn't become one of those places riding on the hype fumes.

Hmm for the first time, I'm a bit dissapointed by the service. The food was great as usual, but our waiter was not good, always interrupting, always asking if we wanted more wine, more food, not changing the settings, as we usually expect in expensive restaurants between services. She even left at one point (to go home), letting all the plates on the table for like 45 minutes. we had to ask for water all the time, it was not the luxury experience we usually get... we also had to ask them to remove the plates & asked for coffee & dessert as all the staff was leaving with their coats & scarves in front of us, making us feel like we should leave when it was not only 10pm. Anyways, bad experience this time, I hope it wont happen again...it used to be our fave spot.

Beware. They have a hard 2 hour limit & they remind you about it again & again. After 1H55, you just have to leave, period. If you want to spend some time in a nice restaurant for the evening without being bothered, don't select this one.

Magnifiques atmosphère & déco.
Service impeccable & chaleureux.

Excellente cuisine alliant l'orient & l'occident.

It was perfect, thanks to the team for accommodating us in a short time matter & to respond to all our food restrictions by making us a sharing menu to the level of everyone's happiness. Shout out à Steven & Megan. A bientôt

One of the best restaurant in Montreal. Amazing food, excellent service.

nous aurions aimé savoir lors de la réservation que nous avions la table que pour deux heures seulement

It was a great experience from the service to the food. We had the gyoza & duck bao as appetizers. They were amazing! On to the entre which were Live Sea Scallops & Spare ribs. The Spare ribs were a little salty but the live sea scallops were to die for! The scallops were cooked to perfection & the seasoning was spot on! The desserts were also on another level. Caramel Dream & Cheesecake mouse, just wow! The service was friendly & helpful. Food came quickly as well. Would definitely recommend this place for special occasion!

Super restaurant!!!

WOW! Etc..

I am celiac. All of the gluten free options were delicious & they easily accommodated my needs. Only problem was that my dessert came with cookie crumbs & it was only evident after eating a couple of bites ... that was their mistake, which I'm paying for!

Cool & classy. Spacious venue, felt like we had the whole corner to ourselves. Mix of modern & old world style. Excellent service, which was much appreciated for all the questions we had on the eclectic menu with many selections. Everything was delicious!
