Disappointing. We were prepared to enjoy this restaurant on our first visit to Montreal. We found, instead, an environment that did not match the menu (a pretentious, overpriced menu set in a noisy pizzeria or sports bar). Our waiter was the only positive to our experience as he was warm, helpful & engaging. The host rolled his eyes at us more than once (we were late due to traffic, but we called ahead & let the restaurant know). The host acted like we were a nuisance. The food & wine were OK at best, certainly not worth the price. Unless your only goal is to say you went to a hip, Michelin starred restaurant, give this one a miss.
Ridiculous! Food was weird & super expensive. 29 CAD for 1 raw scallop. What do you think they would charge if they cooked it??! Atmosphere was very noisy & did not match the food or prices. We had difficulty getting a car to bring us to the restaurant so we were late, but well within our reservation window & I called to let them know we would be late. The host rolled his eyes at us several times throughout the meal. Our waiter was terrific, but that's the nicest thing we can say. We do not recommend this unless you're more interested in being hip over the food or atmosphere.

My partner & I had the privilege of celebrating his 40th birthday at Hoogan & Beaufort, & I can honestly say it was one of the most memorable dining experiences we've ever had.
We chose the tasting menu, & every single course was extraordinary. The warm oysters & mussels were, without question, the best I've ever had in my life. From there, each dish somehow continued to surpass the last. Every plate was beautifully presented, thoughtfully composed, & bursting with flavors that were both refined & unforgettable. I've dined at many fine restaurants, but I've truly never experienced anything quite like this.
What elevated the evening beyond the exceptional food was the people. Every member of the team was warm, welcoming, & incredibly knowledgeable. You can genuinely feel how passionate they are about their craft, & that passion shines through in every detail-from the service to the storytelling behind each course.
As a special surprise for my partner's birthday, the team graciously gave us a tour of the kitchen & their wine cellar. It was such a thoughtful gesture that made an already incredible evening feel even more personal & unforgettable.
Thank you to the entire Hoogan & Beaufort team for creating an experience we'll remember for years to come. If you're looking for one of the finest culinary experiences in Montreal, this is it. We cannot wait to return.
Every dish was great but the lobster ravioli was definitely a standout of the evening!
The grilled focaccia is a really great add on as you can definitely taste the grilled flavour.
It's nice that they offer both a tasting menu & à la carte so you can make your tasting menu as you wish.
Service was friendly & warm, just as the location in general with a nice open kitchen concept.
We had an incredible dining experience from start to finish. The tasting menu was phenomenal-every course was beautifully presented, thoughtfully crafted, & absolutely delicious. The quality of the ingredients & the attention to detail were evident in every bite.
A special thank you to our server, Adam, who took exceptional care of us throughout the evening. He was warm, attentive, knowledgeable, & made us feel genuinely welcomed. His recommendations & impeccable service elevated what was already a memorable meal.
On y retourne. Les prix? Oui, assez cher, mais excellent rapport qualité/prix... Étoile 🌟 Michelin en bonus 🙂
Highly recommend 👍👌
This experience left much to be desired for the $380 price-tag for a 2 person tasting menu & 1 cocktail each + tax & tip.
We are a couple who travel alot, enjoy cafes, hearty food & the occasional wine & dine, however, as much as we wanted to like the dining experience, there were just a few aspects that we just can't admit were worth it, overall.
Starting with the good, the serving staff were kind, smiley & welcoming. & at no point in time, did I feel as if we had a particularly rude or negative interaction between the 5 or 6 waiters & waitresses that attended our table (I'll get back to this point).
The food was delicious, & not once did I have a bite where I thought negatively of the food, even rhubarb, which I normally do not like that much, was tolerable for me in the dessert sauce. They provided two complimentary dishes, one prior to designated entree & one after the designated dessert, which was appreciated.
The atmosphere was solid & the dining room is romantic & dimly lit, but well enough that the experience is still comfortable & easy to see. All staff were well dressed & presenting appropriately. Beyond this I can't reeaaaalllyyy recommend this experience, unless you WANT to eat at somewhere with a Michelin star.
Now with all due respect, I have critiques of this experience, which may all be personal, but were shared between my partner & I.
The cost to quantity of food ratio, for me was so disappointing. Comparatively, we've had multiple coursed dining menus in the past ranging from $75-140 per person, which at the higher end, matches the cost of food in this instance. The food taste & quality is on par with many other restaurants from places we've been in Asia & Australia, which is good! However, this is by far the smallest portion size per course, per dollar we've experienced. As you can see in the pictures shown, some of these portions are spoonfuls big in size. I'm an 80kg, 6ft, mid-twenties male with a decent appetite & this left me gravely unfulfilled & wanting more.
It also did not help that we sat down at 6:35pm-ish for our reservation & had the bill placed on the table in the middle of our complimentary dessert, over an entire 3 hours later at 9:35pm. The pacing between each course varied drastically, with some meals coming out within minutes of the last & the longest taking for what felt like 30-40 minutes. Following on from my previous point, this does not help with the whole satiation/satisfaction aspect as we were there for what felt like a pretty drawn out time.
Another point which we found odd was that the waiters & waitresses were kind & respectful, but we have 5 or 6 different people attending our table throughout our dining, aside from explaining the meals off of a script there was little interaction. In every other dining experience, we've had one waiting staff take us through our culinary journey & I think for me, that's a very important part of my overall experience. We also had some times where, because we had many different people coming to the table, we were missing that warmth from having one waiter or waitress & having small conversations with them. Again, I am comparing this to my previous experiences & this may not be a relevant point for other people, but I think it is important to note
Though, when we asked a waitress at the end about the restaurant, she did explain that it has become exponentially busier since receiving their Michelin star. So this might have some explanation about our particular experience.
Additionally, & a small note, we are from Australia visiting Canada for a month, exploring food options while we are here. The booking was made for both my fiancée's & my birthday as a surprise reservation on-behalf my fiancée's sister. We noticed that little celebration cakes with candles were taken around to tables throughout our dining time. Bit disheartening to not receive one of these after our experience.
From portion to pacing, we would likely choose not to dine here again or recommend it.
