As a regular at Gyu-Kaku, visiting about 30 times a year, here's my review. The quality of the meat is not what it used to be. On November 2nd, the prime kalbi was awful - it wasn't the beautiful marbled slices shown in the menu image & what we usually receive. The pork was only fat, with no meat at all. Of course, we expect some fat on pork slices, but not just fat. The filet mignon seemed to have soaked in a previously used, unwashed plate that might have held seafood. The harami beef isn't what it used to be either: we often encounter big nerves in the meat. The portions of kimchi have also become tiny. In addition, the service is no longer of the same quality. Employees no longer greet us in Japanese when we arrive or leave. The service is slower than before, & it seems to be simply because they are understaffed. The servers are kind & doing their best - it's clear the issue seems to come from management. In short, many things have changed. Each time, we go back thinking it was just bad luck, but at this point, despite our 3,000 points in the app, we'll need to opt for a BBQ spot where the meat is quality, like Korean BBQ Daldongnae, just down the street. We miss our old Gyu Kaku experience. 😩 Previous review: Best Japanese BBQ in town! Authentic! You go to Gyu Kaku in Tokyo & it's ALMOST the same except for the wagyu meat obviously.
Everything is on point here! The quality, quantity, service, taste &...Our favorite BBQ place!
A classic Japanese bbq restaurant. All you can eat with high quality products all of which were pure in flavor. I definitely recommend going here with friends & enjoy some time cooking some yummy food. The service was great. We always got our food a few minutes after we put in our order no matter how large. Also being served by the robot was cute & fun. The best part might have been the tiny crème brûlée
Honestly super impressed. They greet you upon seating, they had delicious food, beautiful drinks, high quality meats & absolutely amazing service. Highly recommend this place, great atmosphere, very clean, they changed our grill 3 times. We really had a great experience, can't wait to go back! Thank you to the kitchen & staff, my tummy is happy & full👏 💯
This restaurant was so yummy, I had such a good time going. I ate very well 🙂.It was my first time going to a Japanese Bbq & the server was very helpful throughout the whole dinner, she helped recommend me a delicious menu👍. The portions are really huge & the cuts of meat are good quality, it makes me want to go back every weekend. 🫣this place is popular so there is a time limit🥲, make sure you plan accordingly~
I only didn't give a 5 star review due to weak beverage menu. Food quality, service & tastes are amazing BUT for drinks nothing is interesting & to be honest it is pricey.
Food: expensive for the quality, felt like we received bad cuts compared to before. Service: good service, friendly staff Atmosphere: great
We had a decent dinner at Gyu-Kaku. The food was decent, but some meats were way too spicy. Some were way too fatty, so meat quality is not too great in some cases. Pork was inedible. Shrimp were great. Salad was OK. Rice with meat was excellent but came with onions even though I asked for no onions. Mochinwas OK. Service was pretty good. They did not have some of their menus in English, which made things a little harder.
August 2023 (late review) I ordered takeout lunch meal set. The portions are generous & quality of meat is good, it's quite fair for its price. Although I had to wait about 10-15 minutes to get my takeout, I like that the food was still burning hot when I got to my office.
Everything tasted amazing - perfectly seasoned & good quality raw meat. I wish they had more quantity in each serving though. We got the duck, basil chicken, shrimp & mushroom ahijo, veggie bibimbap & assorted veggies - the whole experience was 10/10, would definitely visit again !!
Food was pretty good. Note that this is not all you can eat. We ordered two of pretty much every meat & we were pretty full by the end for four people. Some small hiccups with our orders & it took some time since they decided to give everything at once instead of bit by bit. I would say for the price, i would expect the meat quality to be higher than AYCE kbbq but sadly I personally could not taste a huge difference. Note that they give a two hour limit for the table.
My new favorite !! Great quality of food & amazing service & atmosphere. Sparkling clean it well deserves five shining stars
Meat is of great quality. Service was a bit slow & price is hefty, although the portions were enough for us.
Came here with my friends to celebrate my birthday & I really enjoyed it! We got the 6 person course menu which made it so much easier since we didn't have to pick anything, they just brought out the food to us & it kept coming. I wasn't prepared for the amount of food they served. Every service, I thought "surely this is the last one" & it wasn't! It's not all you can eat but it will feel like it. Got to try such a great variety of pork, beef, shrimp, dumplings, vegetables, salad, torched sushi, & more! Everything was delicious & we all had enough to eat. My favourites were the Edamame & Gyu-Sushi entree, the short rib, the filet mignon, the premium sirloin, the Yaki-Shabu beef, & the s'mores for dessert! The food is flavourful & tasty, the meats are well seasoned, The sauces on the side compliment everything really well (Sweet, soy, & spicy). Both sides of the table got food so no awkward reaching across to get a taste of everything. The service was very good as well! Very considerate & attentive, one of my friends was going to be late so they waited to bring out their soup so it wouldn't be cold on the table, It would be fresh. The price is very reasonable for the 6 person course menu considering the quality of the meat & the quantity of food you will be getting! Seating was also comfortable & easily accommodated 6 with everyone being able to access the grill. I reserved by phone & we had no issues getting our table!
Excellent quality food, the service was great, the people were kind.
Looking for a last minute place to enjoy some Japanese food, we didn't know what to expect from Gyu-Kaku (I guess we should do some research before hand...) but were pleasantly surprised by the result. This is clearly a popular place being located on Crescent just below Ste. Catherine, especially with university students. The dining style is cook-it-yourself meats & shrimps with some veggies. The menu is ridiculously large (see pictures) but help guide you through the multiple options. We chose the Holiday Magic Course multi dish option for two (even though there were three of us) & there was plenty of food to enjoy. The servings are mostly different types & cuts of meats (skirt steak, pork, hanger steak, kalbi short rib, & the like (see picture of YAKINIKU HOLIDAY MENU for details). The food kept coming & there was no break as we cooked, ate then received more food. We were stuffed at the end. Overall it was good & alot of fun but I am not necessarily a fan of having to monitor my own meal as I eat (but that's just me). The food quality is good, not out of this world but still tasty. Also, there are other cooked meal options like noodles & veggies if you prefer. I liked the service team a lot as everyone took care of us...it wasn't assigned seats per server just ask who ever was passing & they would take care of you. It worked very well & added to the enjoyment. This is a place best for 4 or more people rather than a couples night. Enjoy!
