Updated review 2024: What used to be the best Japanese BBQ in Montreal is changing. As a regular at Gyu-Kaku, visiting about 30 times a year, here's my review. The quality of the meat is not what it used to be. On November 2nd, the prime kalbi was awful - it wasn't the beautiful marbled slices shown in the menu image & what we usually receive. The pork was only fat, with no meat at all. Of course, we expect some fat on pork slices, but not just fat. The filet mignon seemed to have soaked in a previously used, unwashed plate that might have held seafood. The harami beef isn't what it used to be either: we often encounter big nerves in the meat. The portions of kimchi have also become tiny. In addition, the service is no longer of the same quality. Employees no longer greet us in Japanese when we arrive or leave. The service is slower than before, & it seems to be simply because they are understaffed. The servers are kind & doing their best - it's clear the issue seems to come from management. In short, many things have changed. Each time, we go back thinking it was just bad luck, but at this point, despite our 3,000 points in the app, we'll need to opt for a BBQ spot where the meat is quality, like Korean BBQ Daldongnae, just down the street. We miss our old Gyu Kaku experience. 😩 Previous review: Best Japanese BBQ in town! Authentic! You go to Gyu Kaku in Tokyo & it's ALMOST the same except for the wagyu meat obviously.
A classic Japanese bbq restaurant. All you can eat with high quality products all of which were pure in flavor. I definitely recommend going here with friends & enjoy some time cooking some yummy food. The service was great. We always got our food a few minutes after we put in our order no matter how large. Also being served by the robot was cute & fun. The best part might have been the tiny crème brûlée
We had a perfect lunch at Gyu-Kaku. We hadn't been before & our server (I think her name was Natasha..!) was very helpful in explaining the lunch menu & generally looking after us. The food is excellent value, & the'ukumara' meats were outstanding. This was my first Japanese BBQ experience & I'm sad I can't come back as I am only visiting Montreal for a short time!
I recently visited Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ on August 11th, & I must say, the experience was exceptional from start to finish. As a "BBQ aficionado", I opted for the Meat Lover's option, & I was initially concerned it might not be enough. To my surprise, it was more than sufficient-so much so that even with my hearty appetite, I found myself struggling to finish the last few bites! The service was phenomenal. Our waiter, whose name I regret not asking, was outstanding. He provided excellent explanations of all the dishes & checked in on us regularly. Despite the restaurant being full, the dishes came out quickly & in a steady flow-within 10 minutes, our table was completely filled. Even though I wasn't in the best mood that evening due to unrelated reasons, the food & service completely turned my night around. The atmosphere was lively but not overly loud, & the table separators added a nice touch of privacy. I left Gyu-Kaku feeling completely satisfied & eager to return. Highly recommend for anyone who loves BBQ & great service!

This restaurant was so yummy, I had such a good time going. I ate very well 🙂.It was my first time going to a Japanese Bbq & the server was very helpful throughout the whole dinner, she helped recommend me a delicious menu👍. The portions are really huge & the cuts of meat are good quality, it makes me want to go back every weekend. 🫣this place is popular so there is a time limit🥲, make sure you plan accordingly~
First time trying this place & it definitely exceeded our expectations! We arrived without a reservation but the staff was incredibly accommodating & managed to find us a table. Our server, Lawrence, was top-notch! He was attentive & made sure we had everything we needed. As huge BBQ fans, we've tried our fair share of places, but this one takes the cake! The meat was bursting with flavor. We'll definitely be back with friends to share this gem. Highly recommend!
Excellent moment entre amis avec de tres bonne nourriture. Le prix est un peu eleve mais il se justifie par la qualité de la viande & le choix proposé. Un incontournable pour les amateurs de Bbq japonais

The experience at Gyu-Kaku was amazing. I & two other friends were complete beginners at Japanese BBQ but the waiters were more than courteous & helpful with us. The appetizers, meats & refreshments were all delicious. I hope to come back here soon!
Wow , première fois dans un BBQ japonais & pas la dernière! Nous étions 9 personnes & nous sommes tous satisfaits. Le serveur était gentil & donnait de bon conseils & prenait le temps de nous orienter pour le temps de cuisson de chaques viandes. La viande était de très bonne qualité , sans parler des merveilleuses entrées.. bref une expérience parfaite & a prix raisonnable. Je recommande fortement ☺️.
BBQ japonais pour la 1ère fois. Nous avons pris le menu dégustation pour 3 personnes. Le rapport qualité prix est excellent. Le personnel est attentionné. Nous reviendrons.
Great food & great service! Wasn't expecting a Korean-style BBQ, but it certainly hit the spot! We went with the mid-tier combo dinner & it included nice appetizers & had TONS of good meat, so much we had to skip the included dessert. All the staff were super friendly & attentive. Price was a bit high, but as expected & the atmosphere was nice. Would definitely go back!

I recently dined at Gyu-Kaku, a Japanese BBQ haven, & the experience left me delighted. The ambiance was inviting, & the overall setting of the place added to the enjoyment of our evening. Opting for the combo for 4 people, along with two varieties of sushi & a delightful pichet of Sakura, our taste buds were in for a treat. The food was not only delicious but also served in portions that were just right for our party of four. The combination of grilling our own meats at the table & savoring the sushi added a dynamic aspect to the meal, making it interactive & engaging. The standout, however, was the Sakura cocktail pichet. Not only was it exceptionally good, but the size of the pichet was also generous, ensuring that our glasses were always filled, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening. In summary, my overall experience at Gyu-Kaku was nothing short of delightful. The delectable food, pleasant ambiance, & the standout Sakura cocktail made it an evening to remember. I would highly recommend Gyu-Kaku to anyone looking for a Japanese BBQ experience that ticks all the boxes.

Alors la c est une merveille rien de moins. D entrée on vous précise que le bbq n est pas à volonté on est au Japon pas en Corée. Les viandes marinées un pur délice. Le système d évacuation de la fumée une idée de génie. Les conseils avisés des serveurs sur le menu très avisé. Nous avons fait une orgie de viande en amoureux, un bol de riz avec du boeuf le tout arrosé d un thé vert. Vraiment un moment unique & savoureux avant d aller au centre Bell. Si vous connaissez ou ne connaissez pas la formule nous sommes en face d un restaurant incontournable par son ambiance & le voyage que vous allez offrir à vos papilles.
