My partner's meal was good, although it's difficult to mess up eggs & toast. I was excited to try this place especially given the positive feedback, but it was by far the worst place I've had in Montreal. Firstly, the menu online is not the same as in person. They did not specify online that there is a different breakfast/lunch/dinner menu, so went in at 10 am & couldn't order lunch. As I wanted the smoked meat sandwich, I asked someone (not our waitress who didn't know the answer) how much smoked meat the side is in comparison to the sandwich. I was told that the side was the same amount, so I ordered this & a side of rye bread to make it myself. I was presented with three (yes, THREE) very thin slices of smoked meat. It was so thin & little it had no taste, the bread had more taste! I understand it is a side, but I was told it was the same amount as a usual smoked meat sandwich. Then, we waited 40 minutes for our waitress to come to us to pay our bill. She never came once to check on us or refill my water. They then tried to charge me for coffee I didn't ask for & never drank. Extremely unhappy, worst smoked meat in all of Montreal & horrible service. I have nothing positive to say for me.
Very authentic place. Although not all diners have elevated hygiene standards, this place really stands out. It also has a very interesting interior atmosphere. Their poutine & hot dogs are very good.
I have been here twice. The first time my friend & I had to wait 30 minutes before getting up & asking a waitress to come take our order or bring us water. The club sandwich was decent, nothing spectacular. We did not receive service past receiving food. No coffee or water refill. Had to get up to let them know we were ready to pay. They messed up our bill & we got the difference paid back in cash.
I gave it another chance. The second time, I didn't wait for a waitress to come & would just get up to the drink station where the employees hang out to get their attention.
The fish & chips was good. The greek salad was soggy & had brown leaves.
I'm giving it 3/5 but a big part of that is due to its ambiance & historical status. The terrible service a huge hit to this place's reputation.
This was our second time here & we came back because really like the atmosphere & the retro vibes dining here. The seating booths are cool & the kitchen & restaurant style is too. The food portions are good as well as the service. They have a very large menu, including breakfast potatoes until 11, & then the breakfast menu is limited afterwards. Personally, my sister & I, dont like their fries. Their fries are largely cut, bland in taste & are a bit dense in the inside--its not like the oily, salty type u munch on. It felt like we always had to add salt, ketchup & vinegar for a taste. Their coleslaw is very basic too, its not the creamy type. Its really just raw cut cabbages. However, you could add vinegar for some taste. I could understand that this is their style & how people like their fries & coleslaw this way, it just wasnt it for my sister & I.
I was disappointed. We used to go years ago & went back today. While I saw someone eating a nice looking club sandwich, our own food was mediocre at best. Poutine was dry beyond the top fries, gravy had gelatenous chunks, pasta was lukewarm, fries were so dry. Totally not worth the visit.
i am a usual there. I Like it but It's getting weirder for the last months i go there.. Staff are nice, but sometimes vibes are just weird with the staff. I loved my waitress tonight. Anyways...tonight, i got a carrot cake & to my last spoonful of it - i saw a small dead fly in the plate - told my waitress about it just for future clients they could be serving dessert if the cake is already cut & in plates- & she was personnaly disgusted. I was disgusted too tbh. She came back & told me that the manager said that ::: because its summer, flies come in easily & get on plates. That's how it is. I didn't say anything back & just paid & left, but as I am walking I feel offended & kind of disappointing that I got such answer. Look at the plates before sending - It's obnoxious & not okay to normalize such bad food quality control- the answer was the most disappointing thing - to understand that they really don't care much about salubrity & food control. I could cook food at home with flies around, but not one fly will drop on my plate. That fly was long dead.
