Love the ambience. Think of it as 50s family-style diner. My friends love eating here & it was my first time coming here. Prices are reasonable & portion wise, pretty good. The chop-chop poutine wasn't too salty & the smoked meat was good. Carrot cake isn't too sweet, moist, but for those who are allergic to nuts, beware as they have walnuts!
What I ordered was small chop-chop poutine ($12.75 CAD approx) + carrot cake ($6.75 CAD approx) + coke ($3.75 CAD approx).
Highly recommend RSVP in advanced if coming in a bigger group, but recommend this place for family-style brunches & diners.
My wife & I stopped by on a Monday a few minutes before 11:00 & just missed the breakfast menu that ended at 11:00.
Missing the breakfast menu my wife still ordered an Omlete that even from my side of the table looked very underwelming, as she dug in she lost her appetite & only ate less that 1/2 of her omlette simply because it tasted less than ordinary. Her plate came with french fries that were barely warm to the touch.
I on the other hand indulged on a 10' steak & smoked meat sub. Unfortunately there was so much oily dressing thats all I tasted, no taste to the steak & absolutely no taste to what little smoked meat was in my sandwich. It was so bad it was necessary to disect my sandwich & remove the top 1/2 of the bread wich was drenched in oil. I also ordered a side of french fries & simular to my wifes fries mine were also just warm to the touch.
On a brighter note our waitress was very nice & eagarly topped up our coffee's, her colleque host was also very friendly.
Unfortunately I dont know how this establishment has recieved so many positive recommendations, we will not be back!
& honestly, the overhaul condition & appearance of this place is old & has charm, however it doesnt mean the restaurant has to appear dirty, take a look at the filth of those old music selectors at each booth.
Other than staff, this place needs an overhaul!
As a longtime Southwest resident, this has to be one of the best restaurants in the area. It may not be'trendy/instagrammable' (to be fair, it's an old school style of restaurant) but you can always count on Green Spot to get something comforting & fufilling at a decent price.
Their poutine is great. & I highly recommend their'Special hotdog' (Fries inside the hotdog)
10/10 this place - it's like going back in time which is beautiful. Please never change. Wonderful efficient friendly staff & excellent food at a good price.
An absolute staple for classic Montreal fare! This old-fashioned diner has been serving authentic eats for decades; just stepping inside the restaurant transports you to a far simpler world.
We got the classic smoked meat sandwiches & the poutine. The soft bread is loaded to the brim with super tender & flavorful smoked meat & accompanied by tangy mustard. If you're visiting Montreal for the first time, smoked meat is definitely a must-try food, & Greenspot did it justice. Their famous poutine was fun & tasty as well. We got the small size, which was still plenty to share between two people. Despite being drenched in the hearty gravy, the thick-cut fries remained very crispy. The cheese curds had the right amount of'squeakiness' every Canadian is looking for & made for a delightful eating experience. You can't go to Quebec & not try poutine. The combination of fries, gravy, & cheese seems simple yet is surprisingly layered with the contrasting textures.
Greenspot is the spot for an unassuming, undeniably wonderful meal!
I only had a few bites of my poutine as the fries were horrible, undercooked & possibly old. None of the waitresses, despite seeing my almost untouched plate, even bothered to ask for feedback. Sadly, this is a dying institution.
I came in yesterday with my 2 kids & husband .We love this place ! The food was very good as always!!!But today we had our server (Yola) ,She insisted for us to take drinks but we didn't want to ,she looked at us with a weird look like we don't have money to spend…She proceeds to make us feel like she is on a hurry & wants us to leave for the next table to come eat I felt very uncomfortable by the way she was rushing us to pay & leave …She also was screaming on the nice gentleman that cleans tables .She then comes to us to tell us how annoying he is after we ask what was happening & was making fun of him I find it very unprofessional of her . I always come here sometimes alone & the nice gentleman (not sure of his name) always greet me with a beautiful smile ! He didn't deserve to be yelled at especially in front of customers .I hope the managers get this checked because it's not the first time I see her yell at other of her employees friend.
Friday nights. Dinner alone. Lots of people. Never alone. Staff is so nice. My go to for a burger & fries on a Friday night. Walking here from Lionel easy.
It was my first night on my first-ever trip to Montreal (back in November 2025), & a friend of mine back home (who is Montreal born & raised) highly recommended that I should go here for a bite to eat.
After getting checked into my hotel room earlier in the evening, I decided to make this my first stop.
After my server led me to a table by the TV, I ordered the St-Henri poutine & an orange pop. The food was served quicker than I expected (which is not a bad thing) & I then proceeded to do what many Montrealers must have done over many decades while in here, enjoy my poutine while watching the Montreal Canadiens on TV.... 😊😁
The food was fantastic, & Erin the server's attentiveness was great too.
All in all, a very enjoyable experience on my first night in Montreal!
This is a great quick & cheap spot to have some nice comfort food & enjoy an authentic dinner experience. The service was quick & friendly & the menu has a huge variety of options.
Best poutine hands down in Montreal!!!
I have come here the entirety of my studies for a hearty meal after long hours at the library, & they never disappoint.
The preparation is quick, the meal is warm & delicious, & they don't hesitate to go heavy on the cheese & the sauce.
I particularly like the Bonheur D'Occasion, it is my favorite by far. I highly recommend for those who want a twist on the classic but do not eat meat!
Lovely people, lovely food, lovely place. Great for a dinner between friends or family to warm up from the winter.
The poutine was fantastic. The French fries were very crispy & the gravy was hearty & meaty. The smoked meat on top was excellent too.
The food & service here was wonderful, the lady who serviced us was extremely friendly.
I felt unfortunately pushed to write this in the review hoping that the managing staff will see this as our experience was ruined by the tall, blonde young man working there who was having an extremely disgusting & sexually inappropriate conversation about women with a friend who was waiting for him to finish his shift. A huge lack of awareness to all of the uncomfortable patrons around the pair, I did not intervene whilst we were there but instead decided to leave & write this hoping that it will be escalated appropriately. In 2025 it is not okay to have these conversations, especially in the work place.
A North American style diner restaurant. As if Woolworth counter married a Coney Island. Food & portions taste great, & the prices were just right. Service was fast & friendly, too. Located just 100 feet from Atwater Market & the Lachine Canal.
I tried the Le Florentine breakfast dish at Greenspot & it was absolutely delicious! This twist on classic eggs Benedict features perfectly poached eggs on toasted English muffins, topped with creamy hollandaise sauce & fresh sautéed spinach. The eggs were cooked just right-silky yolks that oozed over the dish-& the spinach added a nice earthy flavor that balanced the richness of the hollandaise.
The side of crispy breakfast potatoes was seasoned well & complemented the dish perfectly. The portion was generous, leaving me fully satisfied without feeling overly stuffed. The coffee was fresh & robust, rounding out the meal nicely.
Service was quick & friendly, even during the busy breakfast rush. The cozy, casual atmosphere made it a great spot to start the day. If you're a fan of eggs Benedict or just looking for a hearty breakfast, Greenspot's is the spot.
The Green Spot Restaurant on Notre-Dame Street in Montreal is a beloved local institution that captures the charm of an old-school diner while delivering consistently satisfying comfort food. Stepping inside feels like stepping back in time - vinyl booths, checkered floors, & a friendly, bustling atmosphere that's been welcoming customers for decades.
The menu is hearty & straightforward, featuring all the classics: perfectly grilled burgers with crisp lettuce & juicy patties, golden fries, rich poutines, club sandwiches stacked high, & all-day breakfasts that hit the spot any time. Milkshakes & homemade desserts add a nostalgic touch, making the experience complete.
Service is quick, friendly, & refreshingly genuine, whether you're a regular or just passing through. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, & the food arrives hot & fresh every time.
The Green Spot isn't about trends - it's about doing the basics right, with care & consistency. For anyone in Montreal looking for a reliable, photogenic slice of retro diner culture paired with great comfort food, it's a must-visit.
If you are looking for comfort food, this is the place! Fries are really good!
Greenspot is an institution & the brunch always slaps. The vibes are great for a classic diner, & the service is usually very quick. The fruits are fresh & the service is friendly. Waffles recipe has changed & they are now sweet Belgian waffles (not to my preference but objectively delicious if you like those). Would recommend to anyone visiting Montreal, or any locals who haven't swung by in a while. You won't be disappointed!
I took a friend there last night. He ordered spaghetti & meat sauce. He told me there was a lot more meat sauce than spaghetti. I mentioned it to the waiter, he offered to bring more spaghetti. He did & we said thank you. Lo & behold there's an extra charge on the bill.
The waiter did not mention there would be an extra charge, asked him to remove it. Came back, gave me the same bill. I asked to see the manager. He came over & suggested that my friend was lucky, that they probably put extra sauce so it only looked like not enough spaghetti. I informed him that I'm not paying extra, because the waiter never mentioned about extra charge. So after the blah blah, they removed the charge
Hey, I'm not saying that the customer is always right, but in this case I thought the situation was ridiculous. No desire to return to this joint. They have a lot of customers, so I guess they don't care if they turn some off every now & then with their pettiness.
