I honestly don't get the hype. I tried twice & was disappointed both time. The orange juice is clearly not for me: way too sweet with a weird aftertaste. The poutine... One one the most underwhelming I have eaten in a while. On my second visit I went with someone who always wanted to try Orange Julep since their childhood: their dream were crushed & it was their first & last time.
A very long line & the employees although fast seem unhappy to work there. You eat in the parking near the highway so the atmosphere is meh!
Portions: small for the price. Not a tourist trap, but not worth the detour.
The juice is tooo sweet = too much more
sugar than normal orange juice. No place to sit down to drink. No service but tips are to be paid on their cashier machine
An iconic Montreal stop!
Gibeau Orange Julep is a must-visit, & it absolutely lives up to its reputation. The orange drink is the star - perfectly sweet, creamy, & incredibly refreshing. It has that classic nostalgic flavour you can't find anywhere else, & it's worth the visit alone.
The poutine was also very satisfying: crispy fries, generous cheese curds, & a rich, flavourful gravy that ties everything together. It's comforting, classic Quebec fast food done right.
Add in the fun atmosphere & the famous giant orange, & you've got a uniquely Montreal experience. Whether you're a local or visiting for the first time, Orange Julep is always a great stop.
Gibeau Orange Julep - Montreal
Tried it mainly to see what all the hype was about. I only had the orange juice & honestly it tasted overly sweet-more sugar than orange. When everything is loaded with sugar & sauces, it's bound to taste okay, but this wasn't for me. The juice was very small for almost $5, which felt overpriced. The exterior design is definitely interesting & iconic, & service was quick & friendly. Glad I checked it off the list, but I wouldn't go back.
My first time trying the orange julep, & the flavor was not that sweet but interesting. Visiting felt like an adventure, & the location, complete with the giant orange is quite amusing. It's a fun stop & a unique landmark in Montreal!
Their drinks are creamy, refreshing, & perfectly sweet-perfect for a quick pick-me-up or a nostalgic snack. Always leaves me smiling & wanting more.
For me, hands down the best poutine in Montreal. I also really love their orange juice. It might be a bit too sweet for some people but I LOVE IT. SO GOOD!
I ordered a jug of orange juice & put it in my bag & when I got home the juice had been mostly foam so my jug was missing at least 1/4 of juice :(. When I tried it, it was too sweet. Like so so much sugar? I can usually clear a jug of freshqueezed orange juice In a day because I love it so much but I have barely touched this jug. I love the vibe & atmosphere & will probably go again to try the food but I wouldn't recommend going there just for orange juice.
I should have known this place wasn't worth the hype the moment I noticed almost everyone inside was a tourist. We seemed to be the only locals…& I can see why. We came because my sister-in-law saw someone on social media claim it was the best poutine in the city. I wish she remembered which influencer, because that recommendation clearly isn't worth trusting.
The food itself? Pure fast-food level. The poutine was strictly mid-tier, & none of the three of us walked away impressed. The only point of debate was the orange juice. My companions found it decent (not amazing, just decent). I thought it tasted like sugar water with a token splash of orange. To be fair, they're the type who drink Pepsi like it's tap water, so heavily sweetened, artificial flavors appeal to them in a way I'll never understand.
If that sounds like your taste, then maybe this place will work for you. But if you're looking for genuinely good poutine or fresh juice, save your time.
The Orange Julep is too sweet for some people but it's a wonderful thirst-quenching treat for everyone else. Their fries are fantastic & worth every penny as well as every calorie! The rest of their food isn't quite as awesome as their fries but you won't be disappointed. If you have the late night munchies or you're just craving comfort food at 3am, the Orange Julep will satisfy your needs!
This gigantic orange orb is such a vibe. I wish there were more locations, they would do so well. Great chill spot, the property is so big - there's lots of space to enjoy your food & OJ with friends/family. Note, the famous orange julep is not like a sour orange juice, it's more like an orange creamsicle (highly addictive lol). Definitely a sweet treat with the amount of sugar in it, but oh well live a little & make sure you have some!
Unfriendly people inside no smiles to the customers. No greetings & luck of energy to assist the customer. I like the fresh orange 🍊 😋 but orange with vanilla ice cream too sweet
The Orange Julep (Orange & Milk drink) & Poutine at Gibeau Orange Julep was awesome!
The Orange Julep which is a combo of orange & milk somehow worked together to give a smooth, refreshing, & not too sweet drink. It reminded me of an orange creamsicle but a better version of it in a beverage format. It was so good that we took home a jug of the Orange Jelup (see picture) back home with us. Would definitely recommend the Orange Julep if you craving a good orange creamsicle like drink in the Montreal, QC area.
The Poutine with Hot Dogs (Small) was awesome. The gravy & cheese kurds were delicious. The fries were mostly crispy & delicious. The hot dog pieces were good. Overall, a good & filling poutine :)
The orange juice here is pretty good, but I don't think it's 100% orange juice like they advertise. I think there's milk or sweetener & foam.
I think this place is overpriced. The orange juice isn't anything special; it's just a basic orange juice, & the small size cost me 5 dollars. The sweet potato fries were a huge disappointment-very greasy, not fresh or crunchy, with an unappetizing appearance & taste. I went to experience one of the most famous spots in Montreal, but I found the quality to be poor, & the customer service lacking. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. On the other hand, I love that the building remains intact; it's charming to see a giant orange in the middle of the city. It's fun to visit if you're a tourist, & it's perfect for vintage-style photos, but the food quality is really not great.
Overhyped place that serves overly sweet sugarcane juice with a touch of orange flavour, masquerading as orange juice. The veggie pogos were interesting. The batter on the outside was quite good but the veggie hot dog wasn't all that great, to me. The fries we got were oily & not crisp. Overall, a novelty visit maybe, for the sweetened juice. Can't recommend the food items we tried.
An impressive tourist spot featuring a giant orange. I really enjoy their classic fries, & the orange juice is deliciously sweet. While it is somewhat pricey, I believe it's worth it.
They have best poutine in Montreal. The orange juice is not worth the hype. It's more sweet than regular orange juices
Greasy spoon. The hot dogs were classic & the julep is good, if a bit too sweet for me
