Came to this very smallish original store on Fairmount Ave, the most popular sesame bagel is 1.25CAD. WARM, smaller compared to US bagels, slight sweetness. Not bad. Then I went on to the other Montreal biggie St Viateur which personally I think it's better. BTW my hotel also serves Fairmount (6 in a plastic bag) which needed to be toasted to taste good.
I am not a bagel person but when I went to Montreal, I know I gotta try their bagel. I was hungry after walking & decided that day was the day I will eat a carb full meal! I decided to go to Fairmount Bagel. There a long line leading to this ordinary looking building. Also, I found out that they don't serve bagel sandwiches so I was disappointed. I almost gave up but the guy in front of me said I'm in the right place. I'm glad I listened. I asked the guy at the counter if he could slice 1 bagel for me, he said no. But he offered to give me a knife. So I decided to buy 1 bagel (sesame seeds, his suggestion) & one of their special spread & sat in a bench outside. I also found out that he gave me a small cream cheese (how thoughtful). I was in love (with the bagel) on my first bite! My mouth is watering while doing this review. The bagel was warm with a hint of sweetness & saltiness, soft inside but firm & toasty outside. I am a convert! I like bagel now. My regret is I should have brought some home. Now back in Vancouver & craving their bagel. I also tired other bagel shops but I swear Fairmount bagel is the best.
It is just a bagel shop, no sandwiches. They are very busy. I honestly do understand the hype about this place or the rival.
We visited the famous Fairmont Bagel shop today. The taste & texture of the bagels was fantastic! However, the service we received was very poor. The clerk (young & short, working at 13:27 that took our bagel order (28 bagels) was rude during the interaction. He interrupted our order to ask us verbatim "do you even have a debit card" & resorted to utilizing abrupt hand gestures during the interaction. I want to note there was no language barrier & our interaction was brief, in no way holding up a line. The product at Fairmont is phenomenal, but as someone who has worked customer service before, the bare expectation is to be civil.
This is my favourite bagel shop of all time. There's nothing better. I ask to have this for my birthday every year.
The most excellent bagels. There are two famous bagel shops in Montreal. Fairmont is my pick for#1. But it is so close that you will have to try them both & make your own decision.
Only a few people in line while other bagel shops are swamped. Very tasty. A slight hint of sour dough & a light flavor, nice light smokiness too. You can get cream cheese on the side but the bagels kinda squish if you try to cut them, so I would schmear on top rather than in the middle.
