I've been here for lunch & dinner a few times since this location moved to the plaza level from the original location on the top floor of PVM. Decor & layout is nice enough for a very large restaurant, it does get loud here at peak dinner & lunch hours. Lots of business types & tourists. Food is mediocre at best & pricey, I've never eaten anything bad but there are better options around. It is centrally located accessible to all the shopping & office towers around. Much enjoyable when you can sit outside on the terrace in the summertime.
Disappointing service & food for the money spent - in a cozy, classy setting since coming down from the top of Place Ville Marie.
Decided to try this new location with some friends visiting from Australia. Waiter dropped menus off for us & was pretty prompt in taking our beverage order. Cocktails & wines were on the high end of price, but we were going out so we splurged. The sparkling wine (Cava) I ordered was flat & at room temperature. Cocktails were tasty & well made. We ordered the French onion soup, the seared duck salad, & the shepherds pie. Food was delivered in a reasonably good time - but the soup was not super hot- neither was the shepherds pie. The main course did not come with any side, vegetables or options, & seemed as if it had been just put in the plate & reheated in a microwave, but not for long enough. There was also a lacking of pepper availability as we had to seek out the Peppermill, which was quickly whisked back away from hands of my guest after he had gotten a few grinds of pepper on the salad & main course. As we got our plates, I asked the waiter for the wine menu because I wanted to have a nice glass of red with the meal. He promptly dropped the wine menu at the table, but did not come back to take my order until my meal was about 3/4 eaten. The same happened with the dessert menus… He dropped the menus for us, but disappeared for 15 minutes & by the time he came back, nobody wanted dessert. Empty plates sat at our table a lot longer than they should have, & getting the attention of anyone of the servers was extremely hard. They were constantly walking by our table, but just weren't looking at us or making any eye contact. Finally since we gave up on making a dessert order, we just wanted to leave. Some high value upsell items' sales lost through inattentive serving staff. The steak size & portion for one of my guests was quite small steak & lots of fries. The shepherds pie seemed like just a lot of mashed potatoes with some pulled beef on the bottom, & we didn't find any corn or corn sauce as part of this menu item as indicated in the ingredients. The last time I had been to Les Enfants has been six years ago, & I had a whole different experience when it was at the top of place Ville Marie where it always seemed active & maybe a little more classy, with better trained & attentive staff, who had more personality & a bit more fun. Get more pepper grinders for the tables to use.
