I just used Duc du Lorraine & it was my very first time for my daughters graduation, I asked them to make a custom cake & oh man, tasted so good, the quality of the ingredients, they made the cake exactly the way I wanted, their service, their help, honestly if you are looking for an amazing excellent quality cakes, this is your place. Thank you so much Duc De Lorraine for making my daughter's day special. They are the best!
I had heard so many great things about Duke de Lorraine, from the quality of the food to the impeccable service, so I was genuinely excited to try it for brunch, BUT…
Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the reputation. I ordered the smoked salmon Eggs Benedict, St Joseph, a dish priced at $47. At that price point, expectations naturally become much higher. You expect something memorable, whether through exceptional presentation, outstanding flavors, flawless service, attention to detail, or simply a dish served hot & within a reasonable amount of time. Instead, after a fairly long wait, my plate arrived cold, with only the potatoes being warm. I asked for a replacement, & while the request was handled professionally, it took another 30 minutes before the second plate arrived. Disappointingly, it was cold as well. At that point, I chose not to complain again.
What made the situation even more frustrating was that the dish itself was very ordinary. There was nothing particularly wrong with it, but there was also nothing that justified either the price or the restaurant's reputation. The presentation was basic, the flavors were standard, & there was no creative touch or special seasoning that made it stand out.
One detail that left me puzzled was the three small jars of jam placed on the table. They look attractive, but no bread or pastry was served, which made them feel more decorative than functional.
Overall, I found the experience overrated for the price. The setting is beautiful, the staff are pleasant, & the dessert display is impressive, but the food simply did not meet my expectations. I might return one day to try the pastries & desserts because they looked exceptional, but based on this brunch experience alone, I would not personally recommend it as a brunch destination.
I have been going to this place for over 20 years for various things such as cakes, pastries, breakfast, & even Mother's Day brunches with my mother. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was very disappointing.
Without any notice, after ordering a $60 plate consisting of a bagel & lobster eggs Benedict, I realized it no longer came with potatoes or fruit, which used to be included as part of the full arrangement. The portion & overall presentation were not what I expected for the price paid.
On top of that, the service was not pleasant & did not reflect the quality of experiences I had in the past. Something has definitely changed over the years.
Be aware - it is very expensive for what you receive.

This place is always a good option! If you want to have breakfast, dinner or just a coffee… you'll receive an excellent service & quality. Some dishes are very basic & pricey for what they are, but the flavours are always very good. Their pancakes are incredible!!
It's has its own style & it's very nice to be there specially during summer when the terrace is open! Cozy, classy, elegant… hidden gem! The waiters & manager will always make sure you have everything you need to be comfortable.
Elegant & welcoming atmosphere. The pastries & desserts are fresh, delicate, & beautifully made. Everything tastes high quality & authentically French. I had breakfast there with friends & truly enjoyed the experience. Highly recommended!
Overrated cafe with poor quality desserts & drinks
Stopped by here because of all the great reviews & simply did not understand the hype. The desserts looked unpolished & tasted mediocre. Had the highly recommended mille feuille & the custard had an intense egg taste, whatever the dessert is topped with tasted like a very sugary fondue layer, & it didn't feel like the mille feuille was fresh. The plain croissant & the pain au chocolat were pretty good & would be the only things I'd maybe recommend here. Espresso & americano were awful as the beans were burnt, the price is insane for that kind of quality. Staff were awesome & you can tell they put in a lot of effort to ensure the service is great. However the place was very chaotic as there's no proper guest management/directions, so everyone is trying to figure out how to order takeout & where to go for dine in. Wouldn't bother coming here again, there are so many better french pastry/dessert places in Montreal
Duc de Lorraine is a beautiful Parisian-style pastry shop that offers an amazing selection of high-quality desserts & pastries. We tried a variety including croissants, trompe-l'oeil pastries, & macarons, & everything was visually stunning & delicious.
The almond chocolate croissant was absolutely incredible-soft, smooth, rich, & perfectly chocolaty with a sweet almond flavor that melts in your mouth. The raspberry cheesecake-filled croissant was also very good, with a nice balance of fruity & creamy flavors. The mango trompe-l'oeil pastry was another highlight-creative, fresh, & beautifully presented.
We also tried a selection of macarons, which were tasty & well-made with great texture & flavor variety.
Overall, the quality & presentation are excellent, & the experience feels very premium. The only downside is that the prices are a bit on the expensive side. It would feel even better value if either the portion sizes were slightly larger or the pricing was a bit more affordable.
Still, it's a wonderful place for anyone who loves French pastries & elegant desserts-definitely worth trying at least once.

Nice cozy restaurant but the heating in winter is way too high that at some point we were feeling dizzy. Food was good & so was the dessert but nothing exceptional.
However for such a restaurant the quality of the service is really bad.
I think the owner needs to get properly trained staff who can also understand English. The waiters seem confused all the time & even we changed to French language they seem to have difficulty understanding. The menu is not a big one & yet they made mistake in our order. & I don't understand why it took them forever to bring the dessert (which are already displayed next door) & again they made mistake in the order.
For spending over $350 I would expect much better service from that restaurant.
Overall bit of a disappointment!
