I am completely impressed with the quality & quantity of food, as well as the wine pairings. You have a lot more than you pay for. Our waiter Patrick & our sommelier John (which is very knowledgeable) were simply amazing. Their service is on point, professional, attentive to details, & just enjoyable. I will definitely recommend & come back without hesitation. Thank you for this beautiful experience!!View more
From the moment we walked into Damas, we were greeted with warmth & professionalism that set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The atmosphere was inviting, with a perfect balance of class & comfort. But what truly elevated our experience was the outstanding team that took care of us.
Behind the bar, Theo & Kodjo were nothing short of magicians. Their passion for mixology was evident with every drink they crafted. Each cocktail was a masterpiece-perfectly balanced, visually stunning, & bursting with flavor. Theo's creations were bold & innovative, while Kodjo's cocktail suggestions & welcoming personality left us genuinely impressed. It's rare to find bartenders who not only understand the art of cocktails but execute it with such finesse. Their recommendations, paired with Elliot's thoughtful beverage suggestions, created a seamless experience that carried through the evening. Not only were they incredibly skilled, but they were also genuinely friendly & easy to talk with, making the night feel personal & memorable.
Our server, Elliot, was equally exceptional. His attentiveness & kindness made us feel right at home. What really stood out was his knack for wine pairings. Every suggestion he made complemented our dishes flawlessly, enhancing the flavors & making the entire meal feel harmonious. It's clear he has a deep understanding of both wine & food, & his recommendations were spot-on.
Dimitri, who served our dishes, took the experience even further. His knowledge of the menu was impressive, & he took the time to describe each dish with detail & passion. His insights made us appreciate the flavors & ingredients even more.
A special mention goes to Livianne, who ensured our water glasses were always filled with a smile. It's a small gesture that often goes unnoticed, but her attentiveness made us feel genuinely cared for throughout the evening.
The entire team worked seamlessly to make sure our space was always clean & well-maintained, adding to the relaxed & polished atmosphere.
Damas isn't just a place to eat; it's a place to experience exceptional service, masterful cocktails, & perfectly paired wines. Huge thanks to Theo, Kodjo, Elliot, Dimitri, & Livianne for making our evening truly special. You asked if we were happy? For this amazing moment in time, you helped us feel the happiness found with good food & even greater company. We are infinitely grateful to you all & will never forget you.View more
Must try!!!
A friend took me & my mind was absolutely blown away....
Did the tasting menu with wine pairing!!!
Amazing!!! Really speachless right now!View more
The food here is absolutely amazing. Everything we had was phenomenal. We told George, our server,'we trust you. Please pick out our dinner & wine,' & he did not disappoint! The variety & flavor were impressive. The ambiance is romantic & decorated beautifully. My birthday dessert was so unique & tasty. The service was impeccable. The management & staff are also very hospitable.View more
George took the greatest care of us. We literally trusted him to order our bottle of wine, our appetizers, our entrées, & our dessert; trusting that he wouldn't let us down. If you ever come here, you should rest assured, that once you tell your waiter what you are looking for, they will bring out the most exquisite menu you could imagine. My wife & I have eaten at five star, Michelin star, restaurants around the world, & this is among the top we've ever experienced. If you are looking for a reason to come & book this restaurant, this review should be it. You won't be disappointed!View more
Exceptional dinner with the tasting menu + wine pairing. All the dishes were incredible & the wines too. Pricing might be on the limit. We paid 1200$ for 3, which can make it hard to recommend on a regular basis.
But if you want to be blown away by incredible savours, no other restaurant in Montreal come close to this one.View more
Elegantly catered from the door sill to until we exited once again. Exquisite food & wine but following an unscheduled event will demonstrate how Damas employees care for their customers beyond the great ambiance & the menu. After returning home I had a call from Damas Staff telling me they found my wife's wallet (which was not the case), the staff diligently looked at wallet owners lady's last name & went through their guest list to find someone with the identical last name. Smart, delicate I highly recommend !View more
This is truly a fine dining experience, with a relaxed middle eastern vibe. The flavours are bold & the preparation is somewhat delicate. The wine list is quite extensive with choices from around the world, mostly French wines from diverse regions. On the expensive side, each plate is very generous & enough to share with 6 people. The service is attentive & professional, the music is a bit loud. All in all, great place to celebrate a special occasion with family.View more
Came here on visit from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The entire service staff was amazing, with a very intentional flow, & an attention to the guest experience that made them really stand out. The tasting menu is a must, & definitely get the wine paring with it. Patrick, our waiter, was there every time we wanted him to be, with an unforgettable smile & charm. John, the sommelier, is the best one we've experienced. Highly knowledgeable about all things wine & pairing but also very personable. He brought a magic to the whole experience that left us simultaneously more knowledgeable about wine, but also feeling more confident in our own ability to judge & experience. This will be a regular stop whenever we come to Montreal. Worth every $$$$View more
Exceptional dining experience. We both had the tasting menu, with wine pairing. Atmosphere was excellent, the wait staff were exceptional, did a great job making sure everything was perfect, wine selection was outstanding. The food... was simply Devine, great presentation, flavours, & nice size portions Highly recommend, ,we will certainly be going backView more
I realize that this review will not make a dent in the overwhelmingly positive reviews, but I wanted to share our experience to add another perspective. We arrived with very high expectations due to the hype & went for the tasting menu with the premium wine package. In total we spent around $750 for two persons, a price level which obviously comes with expectations. The meal was completely fine, but underwhelming. The highlights were the amouse bouche, shrimp, & the "kiwi" dish. The rest was quite average. We never got to taste the dessert. Wine is, of course, a subjective matter, but while the sommelier seemed knowledgeable, many of the wines were too untraditional & special for our taste. Perhaps the regular wine pairing would have been a safer choice. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated, but the noise level where we were seated was very high. It was a struggle to keep a conversation going, requiring us to lean in & often repeat ourselves, which is not what we expect when spending that much on a couples dinner. We saw multiple other groups of customers getting moved to other parts of the restaurant, & assume they might have asked for that, to escape the noise. In hindsight, we should have done the same. While highly praised in other reviews, unfortunately the worst part of our experience was the service. Every single employee we were in contact with seemed nice & friendly, but while the waiter on water duty was attentive, unfortunately our main waiter was not. He excused himself after the first serving, assuring us that he had not forgotten us, but as the night wore on, it seems that he did. After finishing the servings of grilled meats, we sat for 40 minutes with no one approaching us or making any attempts to move on to the dessert. When we finally managed to get the attention of our main server, we had spent more than three hours on the meal & were more than ready to leave, so we ended up forgoing the dessert as we simply did not have the patience or energy to spend more time in the restaurant. Other customers that arrived much later than us, had finished their desserts, before we decided not to wait for ours. I am convinced that most other customers do not have the same experience that we do, but unfortunately it feels like we just threw a lot of money at something very disappointing.View more
Very good food & flavors. Excellent wine list with incredible selections. Cocktail list is honestly pretty boring with a lot of redundant ingredients. Definitely a bit on the pricey side but worth a visit.View more
Food is amazing as well as servie & wine selection would rate a perfect 5 if the portions could of been a tiny bit bigger . Would defenitly go again .View more
Came here in April with my gf for my birthday dinner & was the best restaurant experience Ive had ! The tasting menu was extremely delicious & the sommelier who came by with our sparkling wine was also very amicable.View more
One of the best restaurants in Montreal, & hands-down the best Syrian restaurant I've had the pleasure of dining in outside of Syria itself. The service was impeccable- very helpful & professional staff. I highly recommend the Bargylus wine.View more
We chose the prix fixe pescatarian tasting menu, which came with a lot of food. Salad, babaganoush, egg/pita, falafel, octopus, stuffed grape leaves, bulgur, fish & baklava. We enjoyed this feast with a refreshing white wine from Syria. The highlights were the babaganoush (truly a surprising flavour explosion), falafel, octopus & fish entree. The food was very solid with a few surprising stand outs. The service & atmosphere was typical for such a big space (reminded me a bit of Dishoom). However, the price was very steep & would have appreciated some guidance on our tasting menu choice. (Assuming this would have knocked a couple hundred $ off our dinner for two...making it more palpable)View more
So me & my partner really wanted to go somewhere special but different for our one year anniversary. We're from Vermont so we thought that the cuisine would be a wonderful detour from what we usually have available. Our experience however, was not very good, & I don't think we'd come back again. To start, we got seated & we knew we wanted the tasting menu, which is 7 courses, so we ordered that & we each had a cocktail. They whisked the menus away & we were excited. Then the first course came, then the second, by the third we were both finished with our cocktails & were politely waiting for our server to come back to ask for a refill. I was facing the restaurant & I watched him stop by other tables except ours. I tried to make eye contact with him, to no avail, it seems he was uninterested in helping us anymore, as he refused to even look our direction. At the point of the fourth course my partner had been waiting on a water refill for 15 minutes. 15! I finally just started staring & trying to flag waiters down until one (very nice) man came over & asked if we needed something. We asked for a wine menu, ordered. & then were promptly left alone again. Then when dessert came around, (we made this reservation 3 months in advance & put in the notes it was our anniversary) the person who came said "its somebodys birthday" Which while it would be fine if that was the only blunder, but when you've been dismissed the entire night & had to fight for a water refill it Definitely feels on purpose & rude. & then we had to fight again to get the check. I just felt like if you're spending $500 on a dinner youd think they could keep the water refilled. Let alone notice that your cocktail is empty & ask if youd like another. Or at least CHECK IN & make sure everything is going fine. I don't know if it was because we looked younger than their usual clientele, or if that is policy to leave you to your devices after ordering a 7 course meal. But we will not go there again. & it's so disappointing because the food was phenomenal!! But I would never recommend anyone go there. It felt like we weren't their target clientele, & I got the impression that we weren't welcome.View more
An absolutely amazing place for a casual dinner with friends or celebratory feast. We had the degustation & the kitchen deftly avoided the food allergies, & the sommelier made some great replacements for the red wines to help my wife avoid the migraines. Amazing service team, really delicious food. Would highly recommend, & visit again!View more
We had a Syrian white wine & the tasting menu. Everything was perfect; the service, food quality & especially the atmosphere.View more
Food was delicious. I've never tried such an interesting wine (I've been in Italy, France, Spain, Georgia). Stuff was friendly.View more
Could not recommend this restaurant more. My husband & I have never had Syrian food before but decided to try Dana's while we were in Montreal on vacation & it was both of our favorite restaurant we visited while we were there. We did the tasting menu & my husband did the wine pairing with his meal. The waitress was really knowledgeable about the menu & recommended substitutions where necessary for me since I am pregnant. It was excellent service, all the food we had was amazing (we left very full) & the sommelier was very friendly & professional. I definitely recommend anyone give this place a try, it was incredible!View more
Stellar service from start to finish. Thank you George. Atmosphere & design is very authentic & appealing. Prices are inflated however when you're in your'prime' I suppose you milk it for all it's worth. Lentil soup, pistachio kebbe, & braised lamb dish among others. Oh a very unique appetizer; PASTIRMA, (Cured beef filet mignon, aged sheep milk cheese, & quail egg). Very good. I'm being generous with 4 stars. $24 for a glass of Armenian white wine? Not worth it. I will have to return to this establishment. This time with a guest, unlike the one who was with me on this eve, that will be appreciative & kind. This lady was not a'lady' at all & has left a bitter taste from my experience. I shall'redeem' myself. Cheers.View more
We've decided to celebrate my sister's birthday at Damas. Such a great experience, the food is delicious & the service was excellent! We've had the fattouche, hummus, kebe, Hummus shawarma, lamb meet & many more. Great selection of wine! The desserts were delicious too. Good job!View more
This was my 4th trip to the restaurant, a last minute decision when the wait time for our first choice Haricana was 30 minutes. I was rather surprised that there was room at Damas on a Thursday night.
On the phone I was asked if bar seating was fine, unfortunately my guest had other plans. We got a table in a n area I had never seen before right beyond the bathrooms. Apparently used for groups we learnt later..
The seating area in any other restaurant would have been great, yet it if felt we far from the action & tucked away not to be seen. The room was also quieter which in a sense also diminished the experience found in the main dining area.
My guest I learnt was not a fan of lamb which is probably an item on half the items on the menu. I've often repeated what a waiter mentioned "chicken! you can make chicken at home" so we were left with less options.
I ordered the eggplant salad which to my amazement well appreciated by my guest who after having ordered it also said eggplant was yucchy. This dish however has always been delish. Good ingredients make this dish pop.
We flowed with shrimp which is a generous portion of large shrimp. My guest was impressed with the quantity size & flavour of these crustaceans. She even enjoyed the garnish that surrounded the dish. To my taste the shrimps were too soft not even bite to them, but then again shrimp have never been my favourite. The last dish was a lamb suggestion from the waiter...he went on a limb I guess. It was actually good as the lamb was braised in a tomato based sauce, yet there was a lack of flavour considering the ingredients.
The wine was how can I say this nicely, not worth the price. The restaurant should include some more moderately priced wines with a little more punch.
All in all we had a great evening but I am still looking for that wow factor I experienced my first 2 visits to Damas.
The service was up to snuff & then some
Third time I dined at Damas. On this evening I was with a coworker from out of town & traveled the 20 kilometers to introduce him to this establishment, that is how impressed I was the other 2 times.
The room was described as impressive by my guest who has a background in design. It was also comfortable as the evening was brutally humid & windy.
The staff as usual was attentive, but seemed to be in a hurry to get our order. Possibly just a feeling on my part.
As for the food I must say I was not as impressed. Firstly the freshly baked pita arrived at our table overcooked so hardened very quickly. My guest ordered the humus , which he believed would only be the dip, but our dish also included the lamb which as neither tender nor warm when it arrived. The main was actually quite good although at that point the wine & late evening may have been a factor also.
Don't get me wrong, this is a fine place to dine , on this particular night it simply was less so.
