Finally trying Damas, the famous upscale Syrian restaurant in Montreal! I've heard about this place since I was still at McGill, but unfortunately never had the chance to try. I was surprised to see how big the restaurant was; it seemed to span the entire block, & seemed like it took up the space of three restaurants.
While the taste was good, I didn't think it was anything spectacular; nothing tasted elevated or luxurious. It was overpriced & tasting menu items were simply olives or salads or just something small. I wouldn't recommend this place simply because of the price.View more
Great experience. Amazing food. From front to back, top to bottom everyone made the experience memorable. Highly recommend this placeView more
Service was excellent. Our server Emil was very knowledgeable & kind & provided great recommendations without us asking. We did the tasting menu & they were very accommodating of the vegetarian diet. My meal was just as elaborate & thoughtfully done as the meat dishes & they even accommodated the no egg requirement. That is usually not the case. Each course was excellent & better than the previous course…all up until the dessert. We had told them it was our anniversary & they brought a plate with a deconstructed panna cotta & lemon coolie of sorts, with some crushed up chocolate cookie on top. It was so basic & underwhelming compared to the other dishes in the tasting menu. It sounded like the desserts rotated so guess it wasn't our lucky day. Price is definitely on the higher end but I guess you're paying for the creativity & presentation. Overall an awesome meal & I would highly recommend this restaurant.View more
Very impressed with our experience. Service was friendly & felt genuine & effortless. Really good. Drinks & food were memorable. Space was beautiful. Would highly recommend.
Got the fattoush salad (good but not iconic like they would imply) , lamb kibbeh (loved this), lamb rack & chicken kebab both very good flavor. Excellent accompaniments. Great pitas.View more
I'm honestly wowwwed!!! We took the tasting menu with the Mediterranean wine pairing. I am completely impressed with the quality & quantity of food, as well as the wine pairings. You have a lot more than you pay for. Our waiter Patrick & our sommelier John (which is very knowledgeable) were simply amazing. Their service is on point, professional, attentive to details, & just enjoyable. I will definitely recommend & come back without hesitation. Thank you for this beautiful experience!!View more
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Damas truly lives up to its reputation as one of the top restaurants in the city. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm & inviting-elegant without being pretentious. The service was attentive & thoughtful, making us feel genuinely cared for throughout the meal.
The food? Exceptional. The variety & freshness of the dips, the perfectly grilled octopus, the tender & flavorful shish taouk chicken-all served with warm, fluffy pitas that we couldn't get enough of. Every bite was rich with bold, balanced flavors that spoke to the quality & authenticity of the cuisine.
It's no surprise this place is so highly rated. I'm beyond impressed & would recommend Damas to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience.View more
very nice & very busy restaurant, the food is delicious, I would recommend to book a reservation before comingView more
Great Mediterranean spot for a fancy dinner date! The ambiance & service were amazing. Strongly recommend the hummus shawarma (with lamb) & shish taouk.View more
Absolutely phenomenal, perhaps one of my most favorite meals i've ever had. I highly recommend eating here at least once in your life!View more
this place is most definitely overhyped, now the food is good but the price point is not justifiable & it didnt feel like authentic arabic food felt more like fusion. Would highly recommend the cheese puffs & the mouhamara, they give you unlimited fresh pita which is nice, service is very good, its a big restaurant with alot of room & is kid friendly, no parking thoughView more
One of the best meals I've EVER had & I travel a lot (& I'll try anything). Incredible dishes & impeccable service. I would highly recommend the tasting menu, as it's totally worth the price.View more
Amazing Food & Ambiance, but Not Fully Kid-Friendly
I've been living in Montreal for two & a half years, & I only discovered Damas recently thanks to a friend's recommendation. It took a while to find a reservation for the dates we wanted-it's always fully booked, which is definitely a good sign.
Highlights:
• I was lucky to find a parking spot right in front of the restaurant, but the street seemed busy, so I recommend arriving early for your reservation just in case.
• The ambiance is beautiful-dark & cozy with just the right amount of light to highlight the décor. It feels intimate but still easy to have conversations & see everyone at the table.
• Service was quick & available in both French & English.
• The food was absolutely amazing. You can go for individual dishes if you're really hungry, but they're also a good size to share with a child if you're not looking for a huge portion.
• The drinks were diverse, beautifully presented, & just as good as they looked.
Downsides:
• It didn't feel like the staff were fully prepared to accommodate families with small children (ours is 3 years old). We were given a table with very high chairs & asked to switch to a regular table, but they couldn't accommodate the request. I'm not sure if it was because none were available or because they prefer not to seat young kids near other diners. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt & assume it was simply a lack of options.
• No booster seat was offered until I specifically asked for one. My son had been kneeling on the chair just to reach his plate. Once I requested it, though, they brought it quickly.
• Drinks were initially served (like water & juice) in regular glasses intended for adults. After noticing our son was struggling with the large glass, a team member kindly brought a smaller one for the water-but when it came to the orange juice, they used a large glass again, so we had to continue helping him drink.
• Speaking of drinks, they actually forgot to bring ours until after the food had arrived. We had to remind them.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, Damas is a wonderful restaurant with outstanding food & a great atmosphere. I'd happily go back for a special night out with friends or a date. Just be aware that if you're bringing little ones, you might need to be a bit more proactive in asking for what you need.View more
A very enjoyable evening! My husband & I went with two other friends & we all got the tasting menu. Highly recommend! A great way to get a taste of everything & it was all delicious.View more
Exceptional dinner with the tasting menu + wine pairing. All the dishes were incredible & the wines too. Pricing might be on the limit. We paid 1200$ for 3, which can make it hard to recommend on a regular basis.
But if you want to be blown away by incredible savours, no other restaurant in Montreal come close to this one.View more
Elegantly catered from the door sill to until we exited once again. Exquisite food & wine but following an unscheduled event will demonstrate how Damas employees care for their customers beyond the great ambiance & the menu. After returning home I had a call from Damas Staff telling me they found my wife's wallet (which was not the case), the staff diligently looked at wallet owners lady's last name & went through their guest list to find someone with the identical last name. Smart, delicate I highly recommend !View more
First time here & already cannot wait to be back. Both food & service were outstanding. Our dishes were bursting with flavour. As for our waiter George, truly attentive & helpful with recommendations. The whole staff gave exceptional service. I highly recommend Damas, you will not be disappointed.View more
For the price point, this experience was extremely disappointing. The food was good, not great. The server was friendly but the overall service was not at the quality expected for the price point. Food took too long to come so by the second course we were too full & had to cancel our remaining order. The end of the evening was the most disappointing as their dessert menu was absolutely not up to par, no pastries or cakes, just ice cream ($20 ice cream!!!) or baclava. Absolutely shocking to be paying that much for what you get. I would never recommend this restaurant. You will eat much better food at a hole in the wall falafel place.View more
Im not sure what's the hype around this place, the food is mediocre at best: salad & baba Ganoush were the only ok items on the menu & I can't even call them good. Anything lamb was smelly (except for the rack of lambs), lamb requires specific preparation to get rid of the smell & it's not even a hard process, you can find 1000s of videos on YouTube on how to nail it. Fish tastes like cardboard + everything made with meat is tasteless & it seems like the sides are doing the heavy lifting to add some taste to the food. The tasting menu is the biggest scam ever at $160 per person. Baklava is alright but you can find better baklava at Jean Talon market. Will I ever go back to this place? No. Will I recommend it to friends? Absolutely not.View more
Had the chefs menu - one of the best meals I've ever had. Everything was delicious & beautifully presented. Great service & atmosphere. Recommend this place!View more
One of the best meals I've had in a LOOOONNNGGG time! Everything was cooked to perfection with strong savory flavors & a nice smokey finish. The Filet Mignon Kebab was particularly tender & flavorful (which is difficult to acheive with a Tenderloin. It has to be medium rare!). We didnt try any desserts but that pleasure will have to wait till next time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANTView more
Exceptional dining experience. We both had the tasting menu, with wine pairing. Atmosphere was excellent, the wait staff were exceptional, did a great job making sure everything was perfect, wine selection was outstanding. The food... was simply Devine, great presentation, flavours, & nice size portions Highly recommend, ,we will certainly be going backView more
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Damas Restaurant with my family, & I can confidently say it exceeded my expectations. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was so unique, elegant yet welcoming, setting the perfect tone for our evening. One of the standout features of this restaurant is the generous portion sizes. Each dish was beautifully presented & packed with flavor, making it a delightful experience for the palate. I ordered the rack of lamb, & I was pleasantly surprised by how hearty the serving was-definitely enough to share (though I didn't want to!). The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu & eager to make recommendations. They truly elevated our dining experience without being intrusive. Overall, Damas is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to indulge in high-quality cuisine without leaving hungry. It's perfect for families, groups, & date nights, showcasing its versatility & welcoming atmosphere. I can't recommend it enough & can't wait to return for another memorable meal!View more
I'm originally from Syria, but I live in the States. I wish we had a Damas in Southern California. I highly recommend this restaurant. The food was delicious & gorgeously presented. The staff was so nice & welcoming. Our server, Morgan was so lovely. I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in Montréal.View more
Damas offers incredible Syrian cuisine with flavors that truly stand out. The grilled meats were perfectly seasoned, & the mezze were fresh & delicious. The atmosphere was cozy & inviting, & the service was top-notch. I can't recommend it enough, definitely one of the best dining experiences in Montreal!View more
A friend & I splurged on the tasting menu - still dreaming about the lamb & the fattoush among other things. Every item we tried was absolutely delicious. Highly highly recommend for a special occasion or to turn a normal day special. Great service too! Highly recommend, cannot rave enough about the quality of the ingredients & just the whole culinary experience.View more
One of the best restaurants in the city. Excellent food & service. Very pricey but you get what you paid for. I've tried the tasting menu several years ago & it was very good & way cheaper than it is now. I've also tried a la carte. Lamb is excellent. Everything is executed well. Definitely a special meal for a special occasion unless you have the wallet to eat here more than once a year. Highly recommend.View more
