From the moment we walked into Damas, we knew we were about to embark on something special-but nothing could have prepared us for just how exceptional the experience would be. We have tried the tasting menu & it was absolutely the perfect choice!
The ambiance is warm & enchanting, beautifully combining elegance with the rich cultural essence of Syria. The soft lighting, the detailed décor, & the welcoming atmosphere set the perfect stage for an evening to remember.
But let's talk about the food-because this is where Damas truly shines. Every single dish was a masterpiece, crafted with such depth, authenticity, & care that we felt transported to the heart of Damascus. From the tender, aromatic lamb dishes to the vibrant & perfectly balanced mezze, every bite told a story. The flavors were bold yet refined, traditional yet elevated, & undeniably delicious. You could taste the passion & heritage in every element of the meal.
Special thanks to Alexander who guided us through the menu & made us feel at home throughout the evening. His hospitality added a personal touch that elevated the experience from amazing to unforgettable.
Damas has truly mastered the art of Syrian cuisine, blending tradition with fine dining in a way that few can. We left feeling full, grateful, & already planning our next visit.
Thank you, Damas, for an extraordinary night of food, culture, & warmth. You've set the gold standard for Middle Eastern dining in Montreal.View more
First time trying Syrian food, & it was an interesting experience to see an elevated take on the cuisine. The flavors were good & enjoyable, though it felt like something was missing. Maybe we just needed to order more dishes to get the full experience. Definitely try the mushroom hummus; it's fantastic!View more
Absolutely fantastic. The food was amazing, the service was on point, & the atmosphere was classy yet relaxed. We split 4 mezze & two main dishes between 4 people - it was just a little more than we could eat. Everything was delicious, but the standouts were the grilled octopus, the mouhammara, & the samak meshwi.View more
Overall, a great experience.
Had the fatoush, fish, octopus & a few other dishes with the family. Would've liked to try the tasting menu but that was too much food for us.
Everything was excellent & the service was top tier. Pricy, but a wonderful treat.View more
Service was excellent. Our server Emil was very knowledgeable & kind & provided great recommendations without us asking. We did the tasting menu & they were very accommodating of the vegetarian diet. My meal was just as elaborate & thoughtfully done as the meat dishes & they even accommodated the no egg requirement. That is usually not the case. Each course was excellent & better than the previous course…all up until the dessert. We had told them it was our anniversary & they brought a plate with a deconstructed panna cotta & lemon coolie of sorts, with some crushed up chocolate cookie on top. It was so basic & underwhelming compared to the other dishes in the tasting menu. It sounded like the desserts rotated so guess it wasn't our lucky day. Price is definitely on the higher end but I guess you're paying for the creativity & presentation. Overall an awesome meal & I would highly recommend this restaurant.View more
Hello, we went to eat Sunday for Mother's day the food spectacular like always but the bus girl that was working in our section wow she needs a lot of training we felt like we were bothering her didn't wait for us to finish before removing the dishes, clean the table with the rag like saying leave.
Very disappointed
Your restaurant it's not MacDonald neither is the price of the foodView more
From the moment we walked into Damas, we were greeted with warmth & professionalism that set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The atmosphere was inviting, with a perfect balance of class & comfort. But what truly elevated our experience was the outstanding team that took care of us.
Behind the bar, Theo & Kodjo were nothing short of magicians. Their passion for mixology was evident with every drink they crafted. Each cocktail was a masterpiece-perfectly balanced, visually stunning, & bursting with flavor. Theo's creations were bold & innovative, while Kodjo's cocktail suggestions & welcoming personality left us genuinely impressed. It's rare to find bartenders who not only understand the art of cocktails but execute it with such finesse. Their recommendations, paired with Elliot's thoughtful beverage suggestions, created a seamless experience that carried through the evening. Not only were they incredibly skilled, but they were also genuinely friendly & easy to talk with, making the night feel personal & memorable.
Our server, Elliot, was equally exceptional. His attentiveness & kindness made us feel right at home. What really stood out was his knack for wine pairings. Every suggestion he made complemented our dishes flawlessly, enhancing the flavors & making the entire meal feel harmonious. It's clear he has a deep understanding of both wine & food, & his recommendations were spot-on.
Dimitri, who served our dishes, took the experience even further. His knowledge of the menu was impressive, & he took the time to describe each dish with detail & passion. His insights made us appreciate the flavors & ingredients even more.
A special mention goes to Livianne, who ensured our water glasses were always filled with a smile. It's a small gesture that often goes unnoticed, but her attentiveness made us feel genuinely cared for throughout the evening.
The entire team worked seamlessly to make sure our space was always clean & well-maintained, adding to the relaxed & polished atmosphere.
Damas isn't just a place to eat; it's a place to experience exceptional service, masterful cocktails, & perfectly paired wines. Huge thanks to Theo, Kodjo, Elliot, Dimitri, & Livianne for making our evening truly special. You asked if we were happy? For this amazing moment in time, you helped us feel the happiness found with good food & even greater company. We are infinitely grateful to you all & will never forget you.View more
One of the best meals I've EVER had & I travel a lot (& I'll try anything). Incredible dishes & impeccable service. I would highly recommend the tasting menu, as it's totally worth the price.View more
Amazing Food & Ambiance, but Not Fully Kid-Friendly
I've been living in Montreal for two & a half years, & I only discovered Damas recently thanks to a friend's recommendation. It took a while to find a reservation for the dates we wanted-it's always fully booked, which is definitely a good sign.
Highlights:
• I was lucky to find a parking spot right in front of the restaurant, but the street seemed busy, so I recommend arriving early for your reservation just in case.
• The ambiance is beautiful-dark & cozy with just the right amount of light to highlight the décor. It feels intimate but still easy to have conversations & see everyone at the table.
• Service was quick & available in both French & English.
• The food was absolutely amazing. You can go for individual dishes if you're really hungry, but they're also a good size to share with a child if you're not looking for a huge portion.
• The drinks were diverse, beautifully presented, & just as good as they looked.
Downsides:
• It didn't feel like the staff were fully prepared to accommodate families with small children (ours is 3 years old). We were given a table with very high chairs & asked to switch to a regular table, but they couldn't accommodate the request. I'm not sure if it was because none were available or because they prefer not to seat young kids near other diners. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt & assume it was simply a lack of options.
• No booster seat was offered until I specifically asked for one. My son had been kneeling on the chair just to reach his plate. Once I requested it, though, they brought it quickly.
• Drinks were initially served (like water & juice) in regular glasses intended for adults. After noticing our son was struggling with the large glass, a team member kindly brought a smaller one for the water-but when it came to the orange juice, they used a large glass again, so we had to continue helping him drink.
• Speaking of drinks, they actually forgot to bring ours until after the food had arrived. We had to remind them.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, Damas is a wonderful restaurant with outstanding food & a great atmosphere. I'd happily go back for a special night out with friends or a date. Just be aware that if you're bringing little ones, you might need to be a bit more proactive in asking for what you need.View more
Exceptional dinner with the tasting menu + wine pairing. All the dishes were incredible & the wines too. Pricing might be on the limit. We paid 1200$ for 3, which can make it hard to recommend on a regular basis.
But if you want to be blown away by incredible savours, no other restaurant in Montreal come close to this one.View more
Damas is easily one of my favourite restaurants. Every single dish is exquisite & bursting with flavour. The menu offers a great variety of dishes as well, & all of the ones I've tried were nothing short of incredible! Wonderful ambiance, exceptional service- overall just an outstanding dining experience.View more
A Syrian fine dining in town. It is a big restaurant in Montreal. Many tables & quite crowded. We have to book in advance to dine here. The decoration is impressive. Many nice chandeliers & lamps hanging from the ceiling. Classic old brick wall. Chairs are elegant & comfortable. There is a large open kitchen with many staff. Service is great. All staff are active & helpful. They speak both French & English very well. Food is incredibly good. We choose the tasting menu. They serve us many dishes. We like all of them. My mocktail is awesome with a touch of coriander. This is a restaurant that you must try. It opens our experience of Syrian food & it is fascinating.View more
First time here & already cannot wait to be back. Both food & service were outstanding. Our dishes were bursting with flavour. As for our waiter George, truly attentive & helpful with recommendations. The whole staff gave exceptional service. I highly recommend Damas, you will not be disappointed.View more
Here's a refined & polished version: --- We came here to celebrate our 4-year anniversary after it was highly recommended by some friends who visit regularly. & it did not disappoint! We booked online a couple of weeks in advance without any issues. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by several staff members & promptly shown to our table. The décor was exquisite, just like in the photos, creating a charming ambiance that was sophisticated yet unpretentious. The seating was comfortable, & we had the choice of still or sparkling water as we browsed the cocktail menu. I tried the Aleppo gin sour-a vibrant green cocktail with strong coriander notes (a word of warning if you're not a coriander fan!). It was fantastic; I ended up having two. My girlfriend enjoyed two different gin-based cocktails & loved each one. Being our first time, we decided to try the tasting menu, & it was outstanding. While I'm not deeply familiar with Syrian or even Lebanese cuisine, I was blown away by each of the 12 dishes, each offering unique textures, an abundance of nuts, pomegranate seeds, & complex spice blends. Our server was exceptional (blond woman, didn't get her name, MERCI BEAUCOUP !) - attentive & personable, asking if we had any food preferences or intolerances. My girlfriend isn't a fan of raw meat, like tartare (which I personally love), & our server graciously provided her with an alternative dish. The rest of the staff was equally attentive, efficiently clearing plates & replacing our utensils throughout the evening. In short, an unforgettable experience. We'll definitely be back! It is on the pricier side, but for a unique, top-tier dining experience in the city, it's worth every penny. Bravo to the entire team! Gros merci encore.View more
Had a wonderful time at Damas celebrating a birthday. This was our second time & exceptional in comparison. The staff is on top of their game, know the menu & are quick with cleaning the table & replacing cutlery & plates in between courses. We opted for the tasting menu. Only negative is the pricing at $160 per person. We've dined at Michelin star restraunts in Toronto that cost less. Rest assured, the quality & quantity of food is just perfect. All the dishes were mindblowing. Olives were decent. Fattoush salad was fresh. The appetizers (Kibbe, fish, shrimp) & kebabs (lamb chops, skewer) were too good & flavorful. Shish tawouk could be a little more juicy. It was a bit dry but also white meat. We're glad we opted for the tasting menu. The ambiance is very beautiful & cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.View more
Had the pleasure of dining at Damas & it was an unforgettable experience. The ambiance is warm & inviting. The menu offers a delightful mix of dishes, showcasing the chef's creativity & commitment to quality. Every bite was a burst of flavor, especially the pastirma. The lamp chops & filet mignon were perfectly cooked & beautifully presented. The service was impeccable. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just want a great meal, Damas is a MUST!View more
The restaurant was beautiful. The service was incredible. & the food was absolutely amazing. Our server made a few recommendations & was very honest when he thought we might be ordering too much. He was spot on with the dishes he told us to try & with the number of plates we should get. The cocktails were fantastic - very fresh & refreshing. The desserts were super unique-you just save some space for them!View more
Damas is a famed Montreal restaurant that is hyped to be the best Syrian spot in town. The warm decor, beautiful lights, & upscale nature really makes this a place for special occasions. My friend was able to book us a table for a late night meal about a month in advance. They absolutely get booked up so if you want a table, be sure to plan ahead & make that reservation. Menu items are meant to be shared family style. As a vegan, it was admittedly hard for me to really justify ordering anything sharable that others would want given how pricy everything is on the menu. The two mezzes we had including the Fattoush Salad & their Hummus were already $50 for those alone, so you can imagine how high everything else would have been added up. I enjoyed the salad & its use of fresh ingredients, along with the hummus (which was by no means the best, but a solid hummus nonetheless). I really liked the circular pita that they provided with the hummus as it made for a great dipping mechanism for all of us. I don't think it's worth the price/value for someone that is plant based, despite them having options like grilled vegetables & what appeared to be a heartier legume dish. I think the price for these dishes is what get me so I can't in good faith absolutely recommend it unless you are someone that consumes animal products. With that said, the experience was great & I am very grateful to have even been a part of a meal with great company.View more
Great recommendation from a MTL local. Amazing dishes, great flavors, we got the mixed grill & added fish - the fish & steak were the group favs.View more
This restaurant is one you must go to if you're visiting Montréal. Everything about our experience here was remarkable. The ambiance, the decor, & the music do an impressive job of immersing you into your meal. Our waitress was so sweet, & made great recommendations. The restaurant is share style, so we ordered 5 dishes for the 4 of us. We started with the Pastirma & Fattouch Salad, both bursting with flavour. Our final dishes of Grilled Halloumi, Samke Harra, & Pistachio Fried Kibbeh were all delectable. We will definitely be coming back when we're in town again!View more
Decent restaurant. Worth the first visit to try. Upscale Syrian restaurant, with reasonably tasty dishes, somewhat overpriced, & overhyped. Menu is quite rich, with great flavors. Many of the Syrian / mediterranean dishes can be prepared with different variations, & the variations they serve are made a bit more continental / American. Restaurant feels a bit stuffy. Does not have a relaxed feel to it. They have a nice outdoor patio. They have a CAD 150 / person tasting option, that has 10-12 dishes (probably smaller versions). We ordered 6 a-la-carte options, & price was a bit lower, closer to CAD 100 / person. Some items seemed overpriced, like 5 small lamb cabob for 44. Was worth the first visit, but won't return. Too far from the hotel areas, & a bit pricey for what you get. TYView more
Every single thing we ordered was amazing. Incredible flavors & perfect execution. It would have been nice to have options for draft beer (I didn't see any) but that's a tiny quibble. Server was great & did a fantastic job guiding us towards dishes without gluten (Celiac situation so important to get right). The lamb chops were the star. Potentially the best chops I've ever had & the garnishes were amazing. Patio dining was really nice. Supposedly a dress code but they didn't mind my shorts & flip flops. Fantastic restaurant. 6 stars.View more
THE BEST RESTAURANT in Montreal & THE BEST MED food experience ever! I don't know what else to say.. the Moujaddara almost made me cry as it to me to very young ages when my mom & grandma & aunties would make us dishes; the Mouhammara was the best one I've ever had, & the Egplant Mutabbal smelled like firewood; the grilled Halloumi was phenomenal, specifically its dressing; the sour cherry kebab was also super juicy & not fatty & cooked to perfection, the same with Shish Taouk! The drinks were also great & the staff were absolutely sweet & professional! I wish I could go there every week, like literally. It is expensive but undoubtedly worth it! We couldn't finish as the portions were significantly larger than what we expected so we skipped the dessert. It is also important to mention that the interior is huge & soooo gorgeous, loved every detail of the design.View more
The food is usually excellent but this time something was a little off in all the dishes. It's not a big deal but for the price they charge I expect more consistency.View more
We had an exceptional experience at the restaurant; I have to say the entire evening was delightful. Our servers were remarkably quick, friendly, & attentive. As first-timers, the server explained the food ingredients amazingly. The food we chose was bursting with flavor, & the side dishes were outstanding. With its fantastic atmosphere, I wholeheartedly recommend this place.View more
Beautiful restaurant! We got the tasting menu & it was so delicious with great variety. One of my favourite things was the fried shrimp with labneh. The tasting menu is a little pricey in my opinion but it is filling & very well made. I would love to come back & just order dishes from the menu though!View more
Wonderful place to enjoy with friends & family. The delicious & very authentic flavors of the Syrian cuisine plus the beautiful décoration are only competing with the most professional & dedicated staff. You will return & return. They also have a store on the other side of the street for you to take out their popular dishes.View more
We had the standard tasting menu. The best imo are the seafood dishes -seabass & fish cake. They had nice texture & good natural flavors. If I had to go back, I would solely order the seafood. The rest of the menu, while loaded with variety, wasn't very memorable. For example, the yogurt marinated chicken lacked punch & the lamb, while good, can be found at tons of restaurants. I also don't find the sauces complement the main elements. That being said, it was still fun to try out the sheer variety of quality offerings. I just won't be considering the tasting menu ever again.View more
Amazing experience. Delicate flavors, aromatic & tasty dishes, perfect to share. A little pricey but definitely worth every penny.View more
