Finally trying Damas, the famous upscale Syrian restaurant in Montreal! I've heard about this place since I was still at McGill, but unfortunately never had the chance to try. I was surprised to see how big the restaurant was; it seemed to span the entire block, & seemed like it took up the space of three restaurants.
While the taste was good, I didn't think it was anything spectacular; nothing tasted elevated or luxurious. It was overpriced & tasting menu items were simply olives or salads or just something small. I wouldn't recommend this place simply because of the price.View more

From the moment we walked into Damas, we knew we were about to embark on something special-but nothing could have prepared us for just how exceptional the experience would be. We have tried the tasting menu & it was absolutely the perfect choice!
The ambiance is warm & enchanting, beautifully combining elegance with the rich cultural essence of Syria. The soft lighting, the detailed décor, & the welcoming atmosphere set the perfect stage for an evening to remember.
But let's talk about the food-because this is where Damas truly shines. Every single dish was a masterpiece, crafted with such depth, authenticity, & care that we felt transported to the heart of Damascus. From the tender, aromatic lamb dishes to the vibrant & perfectly balanced mezze, every bite told a story. The flavors were bold yet refined, traditional yet elevated, & undeniably delicious. You could taste the passion & heritage in every element of the meal.
Special thanks to Alexander who guided us through the menu & made us feel at home throughout the evening. His hospitality added a personal touch that elevated the experience from amazing to unforgettable.
Damas has truly mastered the art of Syrian cuisine, blending tradition with fine dining in a way that few can. We left feeling full, grateful, & already planning our next visit.

First time trying Syrian food, & it was an interesting experience to see an elevated take on the cuisine. The flavors were good & enjoyable, though it felt like something was missing. My dinner at Damas was the best fine dining experience I've had in recent memory. I visited on a trip from NYC. The service was attentive & knowledgeable. It was at the quality of Michelin-starred restaurants that I've been to. The Syrian cuisine was delicious & hearty. Our server recommended a prix-fixe CA$ 120 option, which in hindsight would have been ample for 2 people. But we had à la carte options. The salad & moudjarra was especially memorable as was the lamb main course. I hope to come back the next time I'm in town.View more

You might have noticed the high amount of 5 star reviews & I can confirm that Damas is in fact an excellent restaurant.
The food & drinks are spectacular with a lot of different & varied choices. The service is impeccable, especially the timing of our food arrival. & the restaurant is pretty big offering a nice vibe that still lets you have a conversation without shouting at each other.
There also seems to be a parking lot right behind the restaurant that helps a lot, as finding street parking in the area is not easy.
I suggest everyone to give Damas a shot, especially if you're curios on what Syrian cuisine tastes like.View more

Service was excellent - efficient, friendly, prompt & non invasive. Small hiccup when I asked for a latte at the end & they brought me a Turkish coffee.
Ambiance was nice - lighting, & music were peaceful. Adequate space. Not too loud. You feel very far away from the person on the other side of the table though.
Food was good, not great. Fresh & some plates were creative, but not remotely worth the price. Cost was straight up blasphemous.
Two tasters menues with a coffee costing almost 500 $ is beyond comprehensible to me- especially for the quantity.
My partner(who is Syrian), & I were underwhelmed.

A Syrian fine dining in town. It is a big restaurant in Montreal. Many tables & quite crowded. We have to book in advance to dine here. The decoration is impressive. Many nice chandeliers & lamps hanging from the ceiling. Classic old brick wall. Chairs are elegant & comfortable. There is a large open kitchen with many staff. Service is great. All staff are active & helpful. They speak both French & English very well. Food is incredibly good. We choose the tasting menu. They serve us many dishes. We like all of them. My mocktail is awesome with a touch of coriander. This is a restaurant that you must try. It opens our experience of Syrian food & it is fascinating.View more

When we travel, I spend time researching restaurants. We were thrilled to find that Damas is excellent. If we lived in Montreal we would eat here weekly. It is worth it. Our sever suggested a Syrian Bordeaux style blend & it was amazing. Entree portions are large, so watch it with the excellent first course choices like delicious octopus & grilled halloumi. I had lamb shoulder with tomato & okra & it was amazing. My wife enjoyed the duck. Service was also great. Damas is a do not miss restaurant experience.View more

The non-alcoholic beverages were equally delightful, crafted with care & offering unique flavor profiles that complemented the meal perfectly. Service The service at Damas was equally impressive. Our waiter was approachable, welcoming, & genuinely kind, making us feel right at home. What stood out most was the attentiveness of the entire staff. They circled the tables frequently, ensuring our glasses of water were always refilled & our bread basket was constantly replenished. The hosts were also lovely & attentive, escorting us to our table with warmth & professionalism. Atmosphere The atmosphere at Damas is vibrant, spacious, & beautifully decorated. Each section of the restaurant has its own unique vibe, allowing guests to find the perfect setting to match their mood. This thoughtful design added to the overall experience, making it even more memorable. Room for Improvement While our experience inside the restaurant was flawless, the surrounding area felt a bit off-putting. The streets outside were noticeably dirty, & we felt slightly unsafe as we arrived. It's surprising that such a beautiful & well-run establishment is situated in this particular location, as it feels out of place. That said, once inside, all concerns melted away, & the restaurant provided a stunning escape. Overall Damas is a culinary gem that offers an authentic & unforgettable Syrian dining experience. The exceptional food, attentive service, & vibrant ambiance are unmatched. Despite the challenges with the surrounding area, we will undoubtedly be returning to this fantastic restaurant. Here's a refined & polished version: --- We came here to celebrate our 4-year anniversary after it was highly recommended by some friends who visit regularly. & it did not disappoint! We booked online a couple of weeks in advance without any issues. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by several staff members & promptly shown to our table. The décor was exquisite, just like in the photos, creating a charming ambiance that was sophisticated yet unpretentious. The seating was comfortable, & we had the choice of still or sparkling water as we browsed the cocktail menu. I tried the Aleppo gin sour-a vibrant green cocktail with strong coriander notes (a word of warning if you're not a coriander fan!). It was fantastic; I ended up having two. My girlfriend enjoyed two different gin-based cocktails & loved each one. Being our first time, we decided to try the tasting menu, & it was outstanding. While I'm not deeply familiar with Syrian or even Lebanese cuisine, I was blown away by each of the 12 dishes, each offering unique textures, an abundance of nuts, pomegranate seeds, & complex spice blends. Our server was exceptional (blond woman, didn't get her name, MERCI BEAUCOUP !) - attentive & personable, asking if we had any food preferences or intolerances. My girlfriend isn't a fan of raw meat, like tartare (which I personally love), & our server graciously provided her with an alternative dish. The rest of the staff was equally attentive, efficiently clearing plates & replacing our utensils throughout the evening. In short, an unforgettable experience. We'll definitely be back! Damas is a famed Montreal restaurant that is hyped to be the best Syrian spot in town. The warm decor, beautiful lights, & upscale nature really makes this a place for special occasions. My friend was able to book us a table for a late night meal about a month in advance. They absolutely get booked up so if you want a table, be sure to plan ahead & make that reservation. Menu items are meant to be shared family style. As a vegan, it was admittedly hard for me to really justify ordering anything sharable that others would want given how pricy everything is on the menu. The two mezzes we had including the Fattoush Salad & their Hummus were already $50 for those alone, so you can imagine how high everything else would have been added up. I enjoyed the salad & its use of fresh ingredients, along with the hummus (which was by no means the best, but a solid hummus nonetheless). I really liked the circular pita that they provided with the hummus as it made for a great dipping mechanism for all of us. I don't think it's worth the price/value for someone that is plant based, despite them having options like grilled vegetables & what appeared to be a heartier legume dish. I think the price for these dishes is what get me so I can't in good faith absolutely recommend it unless you are someone that consumes animal products. With that said, the experience was great & I am very grateful to have even been a part of a meal with great company.View more

Knocking two stars. One for the pricing - hummus with chicken shouldn't cost 45 CAD. Nor should a samka harra be 110 CAD. Second star knocked off for the decor & atmosphere. The restaurant aims to be high-end while the interior is confusing - the lights are moroccan, the tiles generic, nothing says syrian. No pictures or items from its regions (aleppo, latakia, homs, etc). what pushes the rating is the service & quality of food.View more

Decent restaurant. Worth the first visit to try. Upscale Syrian restaurant, with reasonably tasty dishes, somewhat overpriced, & overhyped. Menu is quite rich, with great flavors. Many of the Syrian / mediterranean dishes can be prepared with different variations, & the variations they serve are made a bit more continental / American. Restaurant feels a bit stuffy. Does not have a relaxed feel to it. They have a nice outdoor patio. They have a CAD 150 / person tasting option, that has 10-12 dishes (probably smaller versions). We ordered 6 a-la-carte options, & price was a bit lower, closer to CAD 100 / person. Some items seemed overpriced, like 5 small lamb cabob for 44. Was worth the first visit, but won't return. Too far from the hotel areas, & a bit pricey for what you get. TYView more

Damas is a nice high end Syrian restaurant with friendly staff & delicious food. The presentation is very nice & the portions quite generous. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening with my wife, however it is on the more expensive side. Could not recommend this restaurant more. My husband & I have never had Syrian food before but decided to try Dana's while we were in Montreal on vacation & it was both of our favorite restaurant we visited while we were there. We did the tasting menu & my husband did the wine pairing with his meal. The waitress was really knowledgeable about the menu & recommended substitutions where necessary for me since I am pregnant. It was excellent service, all the food we had was amazing (we left very full) & the sommelier was very friendly & professional. I definitely recommend anyone give this place a try, it was incredible!View more
