Amazing experience. Had the tasting menu & although a little expensive it definitely was worth the experience. Every single plate was unique & packed with flavour. The meat was also extremely tender.View more
This was our first experience at Damas as we were recommended it by friends & we were not disappointed. With this price point (It was a birthday celebration so we splurged), we had very high expectations. However, from my first phone calls to ensure a nice table, to the drinks, the incredible food & the impeccable service, we were truly overjoyed with our experience. We enjoyed the tasting menu & were so thankful for, not only the presentation of this truly gastronomic experience, but also the equally amazing service & explanations of each dish. (We ended up having 1 principal server & 3 other servers ensuring that our evening was unfolding well & that we were well taken care of throughout our evening!). They were very conscious of a dietary restriction & ensured that it was addressed at each tasting. Bravo to the service team & chefs at Damas! Highly recommended & looking forward to our next experience there soon!View more
It's a gorgeous restaurant with a beautiful atmosphere. We ordered the tasting menu & we're not disappointed! Everything tasted fresh & the flavors were great. It's alot of food so ordering your favorite at bigger portions is also a great idea! You can't really go wrong! Enjoy!View more
I will start by saying that we've heard nothing but rave reviews about Damas & have had this restaurant on our list for a while. However, when you're paying over $500 for a meal, we were expecting to be wowed & were not. We chose the tasting menu & although the food was very good, it was frankly not worth the price point. Some courses were extremely simple with one dimensional flavour (ex: the olives, the fattoush salad) Also, we were charged for tea during the dessert, which we found odd to not have been already included in the tasting menu at $160 per person. The most disappointing part was definitely the service. The servers seemed very out of sync, always getting in each others way & knocking things at our table on two separate occasions. They also took our plates away while we were still eating, which completely surprised me. It felt very rushed & tarnished the experience. We were also not given bread when we noticed all other tables had, & had to ask for some. Overall, there was a level of refinement & depth of flavour missing for us, especially at this price point & compared to other iconic restaurants in Montreal. We will not be returning.View more
Came here in April with my gf for my birthday dinner & was the best restaurant experience Ive had ! The tasting menu was extremely delicious & the sommelier who came by with our sparkling wine was also very amicable.View more
Back in the day, I would have given a million stars to this restaurant. In fact, it should have been almost Michelin level. We had tried the tasting menu, & every single bite was spectacular, & the prices were much more reasonable. Last night, we returned expecting that same level of deliciousness, but it was just good, not amazing, nothing special. We had 2 apps (Hummus & Mouhammara), & 2 mains (Sea bass - lacked flavor but was cooked nicely - & Lamb dumplings). The best thing was the Mouhammara, & the rum Polo. I was disappointed to find the taste extremely lacking compared to my previous experience, & the prices had skyrocketed. What you get for what you pay just doesn't add up anymore. I'm sorry to say, but that was my last experience dining at Damas.View more
We tried the tasting menu. It was expensive, but the shrimp rolled in kadaif, & lamb ribs were delicious. The baklavas were good, but not the best. The staff were polite. We'll return, but next time we'll order from the regular menu.View more
Been here several times. Recently, my perspective has changed dramatically about Damas. Once a top restaurant in Canada, now has turned into a cash grab. The prices here are outrageous, & nothing to justify it. The ingredients & meats are mostly all local products, not like they are importing seafood or getting wagyu beef. The food is decent, but honestly I likely would not be able to tell the difference in a blind taste test for a $30 dish at another restaurant. the menu has changed as well, & it is not as attractive as it once use to be. Only way I would go back is with a tasting menu, otherwise, just not the same... - Appetizers hummus & beet hummus were good, nothing out of this world - Meals - meat platter & chicken shish taouk, same were good, nothing out of this world. The lamb rack on the meat platter wasn't good, no one enjoyed it, same with some deep fried meat, that was extremely dry. - Had three of the desserts & they were all terrible, left a bad taste leaving the restaurantView more
Tasting menu is a must for first timers. I'm not a fan of lamb but they lamp chops were smoky delicious! I left a birthday note when I made the reservation & they did end the dessert with a candle 🩵 I can't get enough of the attentive service, very rare nowadays.View more
We chose the prix fixe pescatarian tasting menu, which came with a lot of food. Salad, babaganoush, egg/pita, falafel, octopus, stuffed grape leaves, bulgur, fish & baklava. We enjoyed this feast with a refreshing white wine from Syria. The highlights were the babaganoush (truly a surprising flavour explosion), falafel, octopus & fish entree. The food was very solid with a few surprising stand outs. The service & atmosphere was typical for such a big space (reminded me a bit of Dishoom). However, the price was very steep & would have appreciated some guidance on our tasting menu choice. (Assuming this would have knocked a couple hundred $ off our dinner for two...making it more palpable)View more
- 40% of the tasting menu was delicious & the rest were subpar or very disappointing today - mindful of dietary restrictions (adjusted one item on their menu as needed) - some courses were crammed together & some had huge gaps between them - water was refilled frequently, which is an improvement from before, but it was too frequent to the point where it felt disruptive several times - kind service, but they seemed to be in a rush & we could barely hear them describe each item due to how loud it is inside due to poor room acoustics probably - not as good as it used to be unfortunately, so likely won't be going back ever againView more
EDIT: The owner reached out to me after I posted this, & was very apologetic & just wanted me to come back & give Damas another chance. I'm increasing the service rating as this was entirely surprising & made me feel that the ownership genuinely cares about the guest experience. I really wish I could rate Damas in line with the quality of its cuisine-if I could, it would easily earn five stars. However, high prices come with high expectations, many of which were unmet during our visit. A particularly notable issue was our water glasses being refilled only once over a two-hour tasting menu. My partner & I had eagerly anticipated this visit for months, considering Damas the highlight of our trip. Unfortunately, after our initial order was taken, our waiter seemed to vanish, & my partner's attempts to flag down another staff member were necessary just to get another drink. This incident exemplifies the overall lack of attentiveness we experienced. Despite these service shortcomings, the food at Damas is truly exceptional & stands out markedly from its competitors. The lamb in particular was the best bit of meat, I have ever had. For those who don't mind a struggle for basic customer service, Damas could still be a fair choice. For future patrons, I might recommend visiting during less busy times or for occasions where the pace of service isn't of consequence.View more
So me & my partner really wanted to go somewhere special but different for our one year anniversary. We're from Vermont so we thought that the cuisine would be a wonderful detour from what we usually have available. Our experience however, was not very good, & I don't think we'd come back again. To start, we got seated & we knew we wanted the tasting menu, which is 7 courses, so we ordered that & we each had a cocktail. They whisked the menus away & we were excited. Then the first course came, then the second, by the third we were both finished with our cocktails & were politely waiting for our server to come back to ask for a refill. I was facing the restaurant & I watched him stop by other tables except ours. I tried to make eye contact with him, to no avail, it seems he was uninterested in helping us anymore, as he refused to even look our direction. At the point of the fourth course my partner had been waiting on a water refill for 15 minutes. 15! I finally just started staring & trying to flag waiters down until one (very nice) man came over & asked if we needed something. We asked for a wine menu, ordered. & then were promptly left alone again. Then when dessert came around, (we made this reservation 3 months in advance & put in the notes it was our anniversary) the person who came said "its somebodys birthday" Which while it would be fine if that was the only blunder, but when you've been dismissed the entire night & had to fight for a water refill it Definitely feels on purpose & rude. & then we had to fight again to get the check. I just felt like if you're spending $500 on a dinner youd think they could keep the water refilled. Let alone notice that your cocktail is empty & ask if youd like another. Or at least CHECK IN & make sure everything is going fine. I don't know if it was because we looked younger than their usual clientele, or if that is policy to leave you to your devices after ordering a 7 course meal. But we will not go there again. & it's so disappointing because the food was phenomenal!! But I would never recommend anyone go there. It felt like we weren't their target clientele, & I got the impression that we weren't welcome.View more
I've eaten here three times so far, & hope to return again! It is also currently my favourite restaurant of all time. The food is delicious, unique, & iconic. I have not had the pleasure of trying the tasting menus, but there are some regular menu items on it that I have loved. A shoutout for the cocktails is needed, & I recommend either the Aleppo Gin Sour or Damascus Blinker. As far as food goes the hummus is remarkable, & the option with the shawarma is a meal on its own. I also recommend the Sour Cherry Kebab & the Samke Harra. The food service is organized around sharing plates, & they run a tight ship replacing platters & utensils. Staff have always been helpful & kind. Not to mention the restaurant itself is gorgeous & has an intimate atmosphere despite its density. Overall, it's worth the price to try at least once. You will probably find yourself wanting to come back!View more
We had a Syrian white wine & the tasting menu. Everything was perfect; the service, food quality & especially the atmosphere.View more
Beautiful restaurant! We got the tasting menu & it was so delicious with great variety. One of my favourite things was the fried shrimp with labneh. The tasting menu is a little pricey in my opinion but it is filling & very well made. I would love to come back & just order dishes from the menu though!View more
The food was amazing, service was incredible & the decor inside is so cute! My friend & I got the tasting menus & was NOT expecting the amount of food we got. There's a lot of items on the menu so we thought it would be small portions but we were stuffed halfway through, not complaining though! Food was great with lots of various flavours & spices. Would come again!View more
We had the tasting menu, it was good, mediocre at most l, some items stood out more than others. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH 400 for 2. Just not worth it, will most likely not come back.View more
We had the standard tasting menu. The best imo are the seafood dishes -seabass & fish cake. They had nice texture & good natural flavors. If I had to go back, I would solely order the seafood. The rest of the menu, while loaded with variety, wasn't very memorable. For example, the yogurt marinated chicken lacked punch & the lamb, while good, can be found at tons of restaurants. I also don't find the sauces complement the main elements. That being said, it was still fun to try out the sheer variety of quality offerings. I just won't be considering the tasting menu ever again.View more
Could not recommend this restaurant more. My husband & I have never had Syrian food before but decided to try Dana's while we were in Montreal on vacation & it was both of our favorite restaurant we visited while we were there. We did the tasting menu & my husband did the wine pairing with his meal. The waitress was really knowledgeable about the menu & recommended substitutions where necessary for me since I am pregnant. It was excellent service, all the food we had was amazing (we left very full) & the sommelier was very friendly & professional. I definitely recommend anyone give this place a try, it was incredible!View more
