We stopped by Chez Greenberg last Friday evening after a day of wandering around the city, & the atmosphere was so cozy we almost didn't want to leave. My husband had the mushroom quiche & I went with a bowl of soup, both warm & fresh, just what we needed after hours on our feet. The woman behind the counter was friendly & patient while we asked way too many questions about the neighborhood. We'll definitely make this a stop again next time we're in Montreal.
Chez Greenberg is a modern Jewish deli & café that celebrates Jewish culinary traditions while giving them a fresh, contemporary feel. It is best known for house-smoked salmon & whitefish, bagels with schmear, handmade knishes, latkes, matzo ball soup, & babka, complemented by a quality coffee program. Much of what makes the restaurant distinctive is its commitment to making food in-house, from smoking its own fish & preparing schmears to rolling knishes & frying latkes. With deep family roots in Jewish food culture, Chez Greenberg combines time-honored recipes & techniques with a polished, welcoming atmosphere. For anyone interested in Jewish comfort food, it offers a particularly satisfying experience built around generous portions, traditional flavors, & carefully made deli classics. I tried the poutine knish. It was perfectly prepared & the perfect sized bite for my Mile End food crawl.
Chez Greenberg serves the tastiest & freshest sandwich bagels I have ever had! Everything is made fresh & in house, & the service is absolutely exceptional! I highly recommend stopping by for a bite, you'll be glad you did!
Absolutely loved Chez Greenberg. We stopped in for breakfast sandwiches & ended up having one of the best coffee experiences I've had in Montreal.
I had the chance to meet Jake, the owner, who personally recommended the cortado. He described the coffee in two simple words:'chocolaty & nutty.' He told me how his uncle helps him source their own blend, & you can genuinely taste the care that goes into it.
The cortado was amazing. Rich, smooth, perfectly balanced, with those chocolate & nutty notes coming through beautifully. If you appreciate good coffee, you need to try it.
The breakfast sandwiches were excellent too. Fresh, flavorful, satisfying, & exactly what we were looking for.
What really made the experience special was Jake himself. Friendly, passionate & genuinely excited about what they're creating at Chez Greenberg. You can tell this place has a story & a lot of heart behind it.
Great food, amazing cortado, & wonderful hospitality. Easy 5 stars. I'll definitely be back.
Refreshing take on Jewish classics. Everything I tried was really fresh & delicious. Eager to go back & try the other items. Very present & dedicated owner as well. Def recommend 👍🏼
I had this spot saved on my'places to try' list for a while, & finally made it there, & I'm so glad I did.
From the outside, it's absolutely charming. The green exterior & terrasse give it such a fresh, inviting vibe. Walking in, the space opens up into a bright, open-concept layout. There's a really cool seating area that feels more like a stylish lounge than a typical restaurant, & right in front, the kitchen is fully visible. I loved that you can see everything being prepared.
The service was just as impressive as the space. Everyone was warm & polite, & the owner even came by to say hello & helped clear our plates, which added a really personal touch.
I ordered the BLC, & it was amazing. The smoked salmon was incredibly fresh, with none of that overly'fishy' smell you sometimes get. The quality really stood out, & I finished my plate in minutes.
Overall, a great experience. I'd definitely recommend it, & I'll absolutely be coming back.
The Seder meal for 6 people was outstanding! The organization of the food required, the freshness & the quality of the food was exceptional. They provided everything required including a Seder Plate! The highlights were the hand grated horseradish, the vegan chopped liver with fried onions, the coleslaw, the delicious baked salmon, the yummy mushroom cutlets, & the home grown karpaS salad. Bravo! A job well done.
Great overall dining experience. Chez Greenberg offers a really nice balance between quality food & a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The menu is well thought out, with flavorful dishes that feel fresh & carefully prepared, & you can tell attention is given to both taste & presentation. The portions are satisfying without being overwhelming, & the pricing feels fair for the level of quality you get. The staff are friendly & attentive, creating a comfortable environment from the moment you walk in, although service can slow down slightly during busier times. The space itself is clean, cozy, & enjoyable for both casual meals & small gatherings. Overall, a solid spot with great food & a good vibe, definitely worth trying if you're in the area.
