Chez Claudette is widely celebrated for its wide menu of poutines, huge generous portions, and affordable prices, with many calling it a Montreal institution and the best poutine in town; the cozy retro diner vibe and friendly service are frequently praised, along with reliable classics like a classic poutine and a variety of toppings, including vegetarian gravy options that are well received. However, some visits are marred by slower or uneven service, occasional complaints about cleanliness or ambience, and mixed opinions on fry texture and gravy depth; overall the reviews describe a place that is beloved for comfort food and value, with strong crowds and repeat visitors.
The food felt such like comfort food. Everything was delightful & gave us a homey feeling, especially the interior decors that were so cute. They still have the old type of flooring where all the footprints can be seen with the rocks though which was a bit less appealing. The service was a bit awkward, everyone working was just nodding when we entered the restaurant & our waitress for the night was so busy she barely had time to refill our cups of water. It also took us a good 10 minutes in the queue before we could pay for our meals. The food did arrive under 5 minutes after we ordered though which was quite impressive. For around 16$ only, there is a wide selection of poutines that you can choose between a small or a large one. It was just amusing to see all the options they offered in their menu. I ended up going for a Celine Poutine & it was pretty good. The fries were a bit soft but also had that slight crunch, the toppings were generous & the portion was pretty large. I do feel however that the sauce was a bit too light in flavours for me & some slices of meat were a bit tough.
We stopped into Chez Claudette to try their highly recommended poutine. With no shortage of options on the menu, we did our best to navigate it with our limited French since there wasn't an English menu available. We ended up ordering the smoked chicken poutine. While I would've loved to get more adventurous, my partner prefers to stick to the basics. The food was okay. The gravy was flavorful, & the cheese curds had the satisfying squeak you hope for, but the chicken was just average, & the fries were softer & soggier than we would have liked but the prices were reasonable & fair. The atmosphere was reminiscent of a casual pizza or Italian takeout spot, nothing remarkable, but clean enough. Service was average as well

Excellent poutine! I went with the classic since it was my very first one. Good fries, squeaky cheese, well-seasoned sauce & no insane wait times... what else could you ask for? Our server was friendly (in English & French) & efficient. Will definitely visit again if in the area again.
Chez Claudette is such a delightful spot & truly a must-visit for any foodie in Montreal! The charming exterior welcomes you inside, where you'll find a menu filled with delicious & super affordable comfort food classics-from hot dogs to hamburger steak to lasagna. But let's talk about the real star here: their poutines! They serve up the best poutine ever, with crispy fries, rich savory gravy, & just the right amount of cheese curds. It's a dream come true for poutine & fries lovers! I couldn't resist trying the "Grilled Chicken" poutine topped with bacon, along with a fluffy egg omelet, & oh boy, it was absolutely heavenly! The portions are generous, too, without breaking the bank. The service is fantastic, & the dining area is clean & spacious, making it such a pleasant experience. If you ever find yourself in Montreal, you absolutely owe it to yourself to stop by. I can't wait to go back on my next trip!
Try the ( Quebecois) .... Being from Niagara in Ontario, we were looking for more of an authentic poutine that locals would eat. Parking was difficult to find, but the neighborhood is charming & safe. Worth the walk The food... Best poutine I have ever had. It wasn't a plate of gravy/cheese/fries. You can get that there, but they offer 2 pages of poutine options. Featuring local favourites. The ( Quebecois) is chicken, bacon, mushrooms , fries , cheese curds, with peas sprinkled on top. Not overly salted, just right, hearty, somewhat healthy & delicious. 5 stars all the way.... 👍
Saw this place on You Got To Eat Here. The poutine was worth the travel to get there. Its a diner experience. We took the metro & got off at the Laurier stop. Honestly one of the better meals we had in Montreal. They need to get beer back on the menu & ice for their water, especially on a hot summer day. If they had those two items would have given them a 5. Our waitress was friendly & the food came out quick.
I came here at the recommenion of some local friends & I totally loved it. Very nice ambiance & service. The menu has so many choices but their star dishes are the poutines. I took the Celine ones & they were very good. My advice is to take the small portion beacuse it is enough to feed a person no matter how hungry they are.
Food is not as what I expected. The texture of the gravy is not what I love so it disappointed me. However, the people are really friendly which can compensate a little bit.
I think this place must have been an institution but we had burgers made from frozen preformed patties, fries which came from a frozen bag of fries that went straight into the fryer, & finally a poutine from a top 10 poutine spot which had bland flavourless gravy with cheese that melted & wasn't squeaky. I was really disappointed after all of the recommendations. The service was great. The front of house were veterans & despite a new POS system that wasn't working great, pushed the crowds through to serve.
Nice poutine. I'm not an expert but it is the best I have eaten for the moment. Crispy fries & a good quantity of cheese & meat. Service is quick. I recommend.
The best thing about this restaurant is fs the service. The people working here are so nice & immediately make you feel welcome. The poutine was good but I wish the fries were a bit more crunchy.

This restaurant is awesome! The poutine is delicious, they don't skimp on ingredients & it's just the right amount of greasy to hit that spot. The service was prompt & the staff were super nice & friendly. Great atmosphere in the restaurant too! 10/10 would go again!
Best poutine in MTL, with the best variety & prices. The portions are generous (not just the fries, every ingredient is). The gravy is great because it's homemade.
Melted cheese on my poutine which indicates that the cheese was not fresh. It was like mozarella on a pizza. Thats really not the type of poutine youd want. Fries still a bit hard inside. Sauce was good but the cheese situation is unacceptable.
Chez Claudette is extremely interesting inside & a great overall experience. Very simple place with minimal staff. Poutine is absolutely the star. So many varieties it is hard to choose. Fries are the perfect consistency & both sauces we had (traditional, & spicy Italian) tasty. Burger was average -- but dressed well for a cheap price. Lots of pictures of Marilyn Monroe everywhere for some reason.
