Chez Claudette is widely celebrated as an authentic Montreal institution, cherished for its extensive variety of delicious, generously portioned poutines that consistently satisfy comfort food cravings. Many guests highlight the high quality of the squeaky cheese curds, savory gravy, and house-made fries, noting that the restaurant offers excellent value and a very welcoming, cozy atmosphere. The staff frequently earns praise for being friendly, accommodating, and attentive, making it a favorite neighborhood spot for both locals and travelers seeking a genuine culinary experience in a relaxed, no-frills setting.
Took an Américaine to go, it took 3 mins for me to take it home & start eating. All the cheese was melted, the entire thing was watery & greasy. Gravy nowhere to be found likely melted along with the cheese, not even close to what a poutine should be. Taste is good, but it should be called slop, not a poutine.
Good poutine, but not the best I had in Montreal:
- gravy was only lukewarm, so it didn't melt the cheese curds
- even the regular gravy is a little peppery to my taste
They have more than 40 flavors to choose from which is a bit overwhelming at first. I liked my Poutine bourguignon with ground beef & onions. Oddly enough, they prepared it with added champignons first, but removed them after realizing their'mistake'. Just add them on the menu, would make it even better.
Restaurant Chez Claudette is one of the hidden spots for authentic Québécois comfort food in Montreal. The menu is packed with local classics, but the poutine is the standout-crispy fries, rich gravy, & perfectly melted cheese curds done the way they should be. If you have room, the smoked meat & homemade desserts are also worth trying.
The cozy atmosphere & charming neighborhood view make it a great place to relax, whether you're stopping in for brunch, lunch, or dinner. Every visit feels warm & welcoming, with friendly service that adds to the experience.
If you're looking to experience food inspired by the culinary traditions of Québec, Canada, Chez Claudette is an excellent choice. It's a place that celebrates local flavors with generous portions & genuine hospitality.
This place was my favorite poutine place of all time. The fries tasted fresh & the gravy tasted really deep & special. The cheese was good & squeaky & the toppings were great.
I went for a poutine at lunchtime. The fries are perfect but it stops there. The cheese is refrigerated & not fresh so it melts & really affects the flavour & texture. The gravy has a nice thick feel but it fell a bit flat on flavour.
The place is an institution & I bet other food is delicious. It's just not the spot if you're looking for the best poutine in the city.
Chez Claudette was recommended by a local friend when we asked the best place to try an authentic poutine while travelling the city. It did not disappoint! The selection of poutines were diverse & all sounded delicious. The poutines themselves had delicious cheese curds with a delightful squeak, the gravy was perfectly savoury, & the fries were perfectly salted & crisp. The staff were also very accommodating with our limited French skills. I would highly recommend Chez Claudette.
The staff here are lovely & the portions are very generous despite being labelled'small'. I really enjoyed the New York poutine with the hot sauce incorporated. My only critique is the cheese curds were kind of rubbery.
Noone else in the restaurant ordered a couple of poutines. There was so much hype online about the place & truth is i tried about 8 poutines in montreal & ruebens has been the only good one. So i made the trip all the way to chez claudette in hopes of a great poutine.
Unfortunately the fries were barely cooked, gravy was ok, & not alot of cheese at all. I understand if it was busy but we were the only ones there. Will not be back
Chez Claudette is a cozy little diner with lots of menu options & very affordable prices. The poutine was delicious & warming on a cool day. The grilled cheese was great too!
