About

Chef Mak delivers an authentic culinary perspective by fusing traditional Haitian staples with expertly prepared grill items and robust pasta dishes. The kitchen prioritizes bold, island-inspired seasoning profiles that define the slow-cooked meat selections and charred skewers. Guests encounter a straightforward menu where zesty marinades meet the comforting reliability of classic noodle preparations. Every dish reflects a disciplined approach to seasoning and temperature control, ensuring that smoky notes from the grill remain prominent across the board. The atmosphere focuses on the practical delivery of consistent flavors, emphasizing the texture and freshness of locally sourced ingredients in each serving. This establishment maintains a clear commitment to hearty, flavor-forward cooking that bridges the gap between Caribbean traditions and international comfort food favorites with consistent technical execution.

Review Summary

Chef Mak consistently receives praise for serving generous, delicious portions of authentic Haitian cuisine, with highlights including the flavorful griot, macaroni salad, and unique chicken dishes. Guests frequently appreciate the welcoming atmosphere and friendly service, noting that the quality of the food often justifies the premium pricing. While occasional inconsistencies in texture or operating hours are mentioned, the overall sentiment remains overwhelmingly positive, with many diners eager to return for the tasty, piping-hot meals and the variety of rice options available.

I try to visit a new Haitian restaurant every time I pass by Montreal Nord, which isn't too often for me. The pricing here was bit higher than expected, but when I saw the big portion I was served it seemed more reasonable. I had my meal there & it was served in takeout containers instead of the available plates. But other than that detail the service was friendly, owners ensured that I was enjoying the meal. I went for their Chef Mak special chicken, a creation of their own which features a thicc, interesting thousand-island inspired sauce. Dish came with 3 pieces of chicken, a fat portion of creamy macaroni salad, a big pile of rice, pikliz, gravy & some plantain. The plantain was a bit dry for me but the rest of the items were awesome, particularly the macaroni salad.

Drove one hour to visit this place that my friend recommended me. I had no expectations & the food blew my mind. The sauce on the chicken plate is creamy & full of flavors, the rice & all the sides are on point. Will come back for sure. I heard in summer 2025 they will have a terrace also, can't wait to come back!
