Meat was generous, well seasoned , the meal overall was very generous for the price, spice is there, plantain was moist, worth your time & business!
I just chomped through my jerk chicken! I've been craving jerk for MONTHS & I cant stress this enough but THAT BOMBOCLATT CHICKEN SLAPPED everything hit the spot. The sweet plantain, rice, fried ball & gravy was delicious! Perfect amount of jerk sauce on the chicken. Just wow.
This place was amazing when it first opened before the lockdowns, & it still is pretty good but quality has gone down a bit. Quality varies from item to item & from the time of the day. The time it takes for you take get your food can wildly vary as well. You can make a pickup order on the phone & have your food ready in about only 5 minutes, but if you dine in sometimes it can take you a very very long time for the same item ordered. The jerk chicken is almost always excellent & it's what I usually order. The stew & curry chicken are pretty good too. The ackee & saltfish is good too, but it barely has any fish in it. The rice & peas can range from excellent when you happen to get it relatively fresh & fragrant with coconut otherwise sometimes it can be a bit stale. The plantains are kinda almost always insipid, the dumplings are fine. The level of seasoning I find can be very inconsistent, sometimes the rice & peas & jerk chicken can be just perfect & other times it can be overly salty.
Overall I still like the place a lot & I'd recommend it to anyone. It still beats pretty much anything in the area & they are open 24/7. It's just that the quality will vary depending on the time of the day, & maybe depending on who's on shift in the kitchen.
Got there, asked the staff how long it would takr for our food to be ready, she said 10mins, waited 30mins. Order 1 jerk chicken plate & 1 curry chicken plate.
Got home, plantains are missing, festivals are missing & the hot sauce that we asked as extra was missing.
The food is just ok, not spicy enough, nor spiced enough.
Would not return.
The staff very nice. The ambience was okay. But I went for the food & the Rice was very dry, they didn't put any gravy on the rice & peas, & put too much rice. & the plantain was also dry & semi hard, not soft at all. But the jerk chicken was very good. Also I was surprised to see that the roti was in a shape of a burrito & not a square, also sadly was very dry inside. Not enough juices or gravy on the potatoes or rice & very little pasta that I had to dig for at the bottom of the rice for. Overall, sadly not the best experience.
Tasty food, great seasoning. I order it on ubereats a lot & it's always a treat. Just wish it had a bit more plantains & the portion got a bit smaller. Also it said it came with a fried dumpling but didn't get that but either way still worth it.
I feel compelled to write this review based on the interaction I had post dining experience. This past weekend, I attended an event where I ordered dinner. I was looking forward to eating at this establishment as I had never eaten there before. I was planning to return & recommend it...if it was good. I arrived at the event on time & figured food would be served one hour after starting. No... The main meal was served 3 1/2 hours later & when it came it was not what I ordered. No water was served at the tables. When it came to the food I received, the chicken was well seasoned & the fried dumpling was fried fresh. The rice & plantain was dry. Most guests received their meals 3 hours later than event start time although they had arrived early. I decided to go back & ask about what might have occurred that affected the lack of service. The person whom I spoke with was not in any way willing to admit error nor were they in the right mind to be communicating with customers. They contended that they were not obliged to serve guests tap water as the guests should have brought their own water. They also said that they needed to be told when to serve dinner although it was discussed with them before hand what time dinner was to be served. They served the dinner after the event was supposed to have ended. I offered several suggestions to improve the service, however the person rudely said that they did not need to change & said, "Who are you anyway. I don't need to talk to you." I explained that I am a customer & that as you are running a business you have to be professional. It would be better to send the client your policies for specific events & rentals & what services are provided." It was an in house event. As a manager, it was their responsibility to ensure that their guests were well served. From a lack of cutlery to glassware to food to basic customer service, this manager had no shame. I will never return. I will never recommend this business. It's unfortunate because the business owner works very hard, however they are leaving all their hard work to a person who may not appreciate nor recognise the sacrifices made to establish & keep a business running.
Wow! Food was steaming hot, fresh, tasty. So much flavour. I had the jerk chicken & was Not disappointed. My first trip here, & not my last! Coconut rice on point, veggies & plantain spot on, jerk was excellent & that's putting it mildly. This was a special treat as compared to any Caribbean &/ or West Indian restaurant food that I've had in 30 years! It's home cooked food on a restaurant front. Clean quiet ambiance.
