Truly enjoyed the whole experience. We felt welcome from the first moment (lovely long brown haired lady at the door) untill leaving the restaurant. Carl from the bar was amazing & made me one of the best margaritas in my life! Great views & vibe. Would come again to try the food!:)) thanks!
There's a fine line between creativity & confusion in the kitchen, & unfortunately, @capellomontreal leaned a little too enthusiastically toward the latter.
Italian cuisine has always had a quiet confidence about it - simple ingredients, balanced flavors, & dishes that don't need a long explanation to shine. Here, however, it felt as though every plate was determined to overdo it…
Take the burrata, for example. A lovely ingredient on its own, creamy & delicate. It arrived accompanied by gnocco fritto (deep-fried dough) & a balsamic that somehow tasted like it contained soy. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. It was one of several moments where the food felt'creative for the sake of being creative,' rather than harmonious.
The pinsa wasn't much better. The crust had a burnt bread taste, topped with pepperoni that tasted suspiciously like it had taken a detour through Costco, & any promised garlic flavor also seemed to have gotten lost somewhere along the way.
For our main, we had Radiatori Vodka Piccante. The vodka sauce, which contained sweet breadcrumbs - an unexpected plot twist - & tasted oddly like something that might have come from a jar rather than a simmering pot, also lacked the'Piccante' part.
Dessert brought us a tiny $18 tiramisu that appeared to have been extended with extra cream, arrived slightly hard as if freshly thawed, & for reasons unknown, contained chocolate chunks. Not offensive, just… puzzling.
Service also had a slightly frantic energy. Within the first ten minutes of sitting down, we were visited three times - including once within the first thirty seconds asking if we were ready to order. At 5:30 p.m., with the restaurant nearly empty, it felt less like attentiveness & more like we might be gently encouraged to eat quickly & move along.
Add to that a few small but noticeable details - shaky tables & water glasses that weren't quite clean when we sat - & the overall experience didn't quite match the price point. The plating was also surprisingly simple for dishes positioned at this level.
In the end, one can't help but wonder if the prices are influenced more by the view & the high-rent location than by what arrives on the plate.
Our rating is higher than it should be due to the fact that the cocktails were pretty solid. Same bar as the other two restaurants above it. We would reccomend skipping all three for food, & just drink at the bar instead.
Beautiful setting, but very underwhelming food. Pasta was bland, & the veal tartare was covered in cheese & seated on a brioche so you did not taste the tartare at all. Drinks were good however.
A Montréal restaurant with unbeatable views & amazing service! If you are looking for the perfect Saturday night spot in Montréal, then Cappello is a must-visit. My friends & I had an incredible experience that balanced a high-end atmosphere with truly warm hospitality.
The Atmosphere & View:
The first thing you'll notice is the stunning panoramic view of the city. Whether you're seated by the window or grabbing a drink at the bar, the vibe is sophisticated yet lively. It's easily one of the best atmospheres in the city for a night out!
The Food & Drinks:
We explored a variety of the menu, & nothing disappointed:
• The Pasta: We tried both the Gnocchi (so pillow-soft!) & the Spaghetti. Both were cooked to perfection.
• Chicken Parm: Crispy, flavorful, & a total crowd-pleaser.
• The Standout: They served what I can confidently say is the best Tiramisu I've had in this city (so far). You cannot leave without ordering it!
• Cocktails/Mocktails: The drink menu is creative & beautifully presented.
Amazing Service!
A massive shoutout to our waiter, Alessandro. He was the highlight of our evening! He was extremely professional & kind. One of my friends doesn't eat pork or anything cooked with alcohol, & Alessandro went above & beyond to accommodate her, offering thoughtful options & ensuring she had a great meal.
While the service was a bit slow due to the Saturday rush, the staff more than made up for it with their incredible hospitality. It's rare to find a place that cares this much about the guest experience.
Final Verdict: a solid 9/10. We'll absolutely be coming back. If you're a local Montrealer or just visiting, please put this restaurant on your list!
I was here last night for a birthday so to start off the cesar salad dressing tasted more like balsamic vinegar instead of cesar dressing.. the vodka pasta sauce was extremely watery & didn't really have a taste.. we ordered drinks & had to wait atleast over an hour…. The best part of our night was the tiramisu for dessert! Plus when we tried getting our waiters attention to order our main meal he told us he has to go see another group first.. This is not restaurant I would come back too.. I have had better pasta & definitely better cesar salad!
10/10 across the board. Service, food, drinks, music, views - this place has it all.
View is amazing, drinks are pretty good. A bit of wait even with reservation.
We visited this restaurant on a Wednesday afternoon to celebrate a friend's birthday. Unfortunately, we were informed that we were not allowed to bring out our own birthday cake. To their credit, the staff did kindly offer to store it in their fridge for the time being, but it was still disappointing, as this policy was not communicated beforehand.
We were a group of six, with two guests arriving later. While our drinks were served promptly, the food took over 45 minutes to arrive. The server explained there had been a mix-up in the kitchen & apologized, which we appreciated. However, with a reservation at 7:00 p.m., we did not finish dinner until around 10:30 p.m., which felt excessive.
Additionally, we had specifically requested no pork on one of the pizzas, but it arrived with pork & had to be sent back to be remade, adding further delay.
Overall, the restaurant itself is very beautiful, but given the service issues & mistakes with the food, we did not feel the experience was worth it.
Amazing!
Sometimes places like this with an impressive view are lacking in other areas. Not here! The view of Montreal was great & just as awesome were the service, food, & drinks. Several servers handled different states of our ordering/experience. They always arrived at just at the right time with excellent attention to detail.
This place was worth the premium price!
Meh … that's the word to describe it.
The decor & view is very nice ! 4/5 stars. The food was really not impressive . Chicken Parm was terrible. Inedible. Vodka pasta was very mediocre .
Entres also nothing stood out .
Drinks… we ordered a few martinis . Asked for a vodka one .. they said they use belvedere which I like . But I found it weird that they charged us 4$ extra per drink because of this. Same for a gin martini they say they use Hendrix only but charge 4$ extra per drink . I also found it very weird that they charged us for extra olives .. how ridiculous! Especially when the wait for each drink was incredibly long !!
So basically I won't be going back …
We had a great experience celebrating a birthday with a group of eight. The space is beautiful, the food was excellent, & the service was even better. Our waiter, Alessandro, guided us through the menu & helped us choose a well balanced selection of dishes. We ordered sharing plates for the table, which I recommend if you want to try a variety of items.
The pasta & carpaccio were outstanding. We also had a steak with potatoes that were surprisingly memorable, plus salads that rounded out the meal nicely. The drink menu was genuinely impressive. The cocktails had creative flavor combinations, nothing overly sugary, & each one was described clearly so you actually knew what you were ordering.
The tiramisu at the end was one of the best I have had in Montreal.
I will definitely be back.
What an experience! This is not your ordinary'going out to dinner night' ... This was an evening of enjoyment for the eyes (the breath taking views of Montreal from the 46th floor), the designer rich but not pretentious decor, the glass wall kitchen, the bar.... the good vibe ambience, the comfy leather chairs & then...we tasted creative or innovative, I don't know what word to use but this was not ordinary Italian food. Every dish & every bite was amazingly delicious!
Oh & the service was impeccable as well as the drinks & the wines. The endives & poched pears salade, the octopus with the little red sweet peppers, the Dorade Carpaccio, the veal crustini, the meat balls made with short ribs, the pastas & the amazing veal côtelette... The desserts, simply divine. We were a few people so we could taste everyone's plates. This evening was really a celebration for all our senses. & to top it all, Chef Gary came to ask us if everything met our expectations. The only word that came to mind was PERFECTION! BRAVO CAPPELLO & all the team. We will be back.
Had a very positive experience here!!! The place itself is gorgeous & I was so happy with all of our food & drink orders. The waiters & maître were all so kind - we got lost on the way there & couldn't make in time, but the maître was super understanding & helped us find a table within 10 minutes at most.
The only that didn't blow my mind was the garlic bread, which was just okay, but the vodka pasta & tartare entrée were divine! It's an expensive place, but worth going for a special occasion.
