Review Summary

Café September is widely celebrated as a premier brunch destination in Montreal, beloved for its exceptionally fluffy pancakes, comforting tomato soup paired with grilled cheese, and high-quality breakfast sandwiches. While the café maintains a vibrant, minimalist atmosphere and consistently friendly service, its popularity often leads to significant wait times and a crowded environment. Most patrons agree that the freshness and flavor of the dishes make the experience well worth the effort, especially when visiting during quieter weekday hours. Although the seating process can be hectic, the delicious coffee, artisanal lattes, and generous portions ensure that guests frequently return for another satisfying meal.

This place has a lot of hype as it is always busy even on weekdays during the day. The cafe looks nice enough but the issue is the undecided atmosphere. You have 30% of the people there doing work on their laptops. But there is no wifi offered & limited outlets, so it's almost like they are forcing it as a work space. On top of this the rest of the people there are chatting away. I initially came here to eat & get some work done but did not find it a suitable space to work & went to another cafe afterwards. I ordered a breakfast sandwich & I have to say it was pretty plain. The pancakes seem to be popular though so I might need to spin back for those sometime.

Great food, loved the halloumi salad sandwich! Busy on weekends but fast-moving line. Would return on a weekday. #TogetherWeGrow

Yummy food & nice ambiance! Their breakfast sandwich, banana bread & their fried chicken sandwich are everything. I also tried their Hallomi toast & it was lovely & different from what I've tried everywhere else!

Nice café with good vibes. The food is delicious, with a good variety of small bites & meals. Staff is knowledgeable so don't hesitate to ask for help when selecting which coffee beans to buy.

I had heard so many great things about this place & was excited to finally try it out! I came for lunch on a Thursday & was happy to find a spot immediately. The menu was so tempting that I wanted to try everything, but I eventually settled on the tomato soup & grilled cheese combo-& it did not disappoint. On a rainy day, this warm, comforting meal was exactly what I needed. The soup was rich & flavorful, & the grilled cheese had a deliciously crispy exterior with a surprise hint of jalapeno inside, adding just the right kick. I can't wait to come back & try the famous pancakes, the matcha, & maybe the rest of the menu (lol). My only critique is the interior layout-the high tables are quite small, & I can imagine how crowded & condensed the space must get on weekends. Still, I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Service was unpleasant & seating setup was dysfunctional. My friend & I came to study for the morning & were saving spots for two other friends who were on their way. One of the servers came up so close to my face & said it's not respectful to reserve seats & we explained our friends were on the way. Then another came up & asked if my friend "had a problem" in a horrible tone. The food was honestly great but the service totally ruined the whole vibe. There are definitely better tasting & more welcoming places to go!
