Tapas style restaurant, nice place to share food.
We order focaccia bread, cod croquette & 3 different salad as there's not many vegetarian options.
The focaccia bread is home made accompanied by a mild spicy sauce, which we find a nice touch to reduce the burnt-ish flavor off some parts of the bread.
We continued with the beet salad, & it is excellently delicious - very well executed. The dressing sauce definitely makes this dish a die-for for us!
Then comes the oyster mushroom salad. We found it less impressive than the beet salad, but the taste is quite nice with fresh touch of sliced pears harmonizing flavors.
The eggplant plate is, however, quite disappointing despite its beautiful presentation. We found it overly salty & the flavor pair seems a bit odd - spicy jalapeno + tangy pomegranate - that doesn't go well for us.
Last but not least, the cod croquette put a nice ending to our meal - it is flavorful & crispy when being dipped into yummy mayonnaise sauce.
The waiters were kind but it seems that we received less attention than other tables around us because we didn't order anything to drink. When we finished our meal, no one came to check on us to ask for desserts or coffee. & we had to wave our hands to get someone's attention for the bill.
Overall, our experience was pleasant & we enjoyed the ambiance.View more
Great atmosphere, great food.
This is the place where dishes are expected to be shared , hence, the size is not big, so order more than one per person. I actually like it that way, more fun.
The beet salad was brilliant. Mix of different salad leaves, radishes, beets, goat cheese - everything worked out perfectly together.
The squid was prepared masterfully.
Foccacia nicely charred. The only thing I suggest to skip is cod croquettes, too chewy.
Good wine list.View more
Last night's dinner at Cadet was incredible-the winter salad was a standout, unlike anything I've had before. The oysters, octopus, & cod croquettes were all delicious, paired perfectly with wine & a dirty martini. The calamari was chewy & oily. Not my fav. The ambiance was warm & inviting. However, the service was a letdown; our waitress seemed overly concerned about how much we were going to order, making the experience awkward. Despite that, the food alone makes Cadet worth it.View more
Unbelievable food & service considering we came in a big group. Tuna, Cod croquettes & beet salads were unreal. The fish is must try.View more
So.... maybe I failed on taking photos of the dishes before we ate ... I think the empty plates speak volumes. This was a recommendation from a local... & they did not disappoint. Excellent sharing plates. We had a good number of them. They were inventive, whimsical & delicious! To note... the croquettes, the beet salad, the leeks, the broccoli.. the wine selection was extensive.. we chose a little known Sicilian white wine... it was excellent. The service was beyond reproach. Our server Mathilde made excellent recommendations. Her service was attentive without being overbearing & always with a smile. We will be back. Thank you again for an excellent experience! We will certainly recommend you to our friends. AndrewView more
We had a superb meal at Cadet. 2 adults & a child had 5 plates plus the focaccia & we were stuffed. I think the steak plate counts as two. Each dish was unique & meticulously prepared. The beans (green beans) was an excellent salad like dish with many flavors & textures. It took me a minute to figure out unwrapping the leeks instead of cutting them & they were a good texture in a nice sauce. Our two favorite dishes were the ratte potatoes (great sauce) & the beets. The server recommended a very nice cocktail for my wife & I hade an excellent glass of wine.View more
One of my best dining experiences in Montreal. The unassuming exterior gives way to a classy dining room where you can see some of the kitchen at work. The menu is all about sharing & has both smaller plates & larger items. Standout dishes among a dinner that was made up of all winners were the oyster mushrooms, tomato & burrata salad, & duck. The duck includes foie gras & is counterbalanced with a selection of veg & pear that is quite unique. One small plate per person & a larger one between two will satisfy the not so hungry & keep space for dessert.View more
Dinner with work colleagues was a hit. Great food & amazing staff! Everything was tasty & well prepared. But must try the broccoli & the mushroom salad.View more
One of the best restaurants I've been to in Montreal! Every dish was delicious, & I really recommend the fennel salad & lemon yuzu ganache. The service was excellent, & the price was surprisingly not too high considering the restaurant's high quality. I definitely hope to come back here again!View more
Beautiful place, they made me want to finish a salad so the food really is another level. Staff was super sweet too. Great experience!!!View more
What an amazing restaurant. We are in Montreal for a weekend visit & had the best meal in a very long time at Cadet (our first but not last visit). Plates are smaller for sharing, tapas style. We ordered 5 dishes & 2 desserts for 2 people. Total bill with 2 bottles of sparkling water (no alcohol) came to $160 before tip. Every bite was delicious & prepared to perfection, & the service attentive, friendly & quick. The atmosphere a perfect mix of lively while still being able to hold a conversation. We will definitely come back here & highly recommend Cadet for a great experience. We had the following dishes, which I would all highly recommend: - Lobster & shrimp - Fennel & citrus salad - Scallop ceviche - Gnocchi with pork - Broccoli & spaetzle - Bread pudding - Lemon Yuzu ganacheView more
Wonderful! Absolutely fantastic dinner. The service was awesome , the drinks were fantastic & the food was beautifully balanced. We loved the broccoli, fennel salad, & cauliflower & focaccia. The drinks are wonderful & we had some fantastic red wine from the Loire ValleyView more
One of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. Excellent staff & food. We had the cauliflower, shrimp & lobster salad, red pepper steak, & potatoes, every dish was delicious.View more
Our first destination meal in Montréal was a bit of a disappointment. The price of wine was prohibitive beyond one glass of their cheapest offering, & we barely scraped out a shared meal for $150.00 USD. The fennel salad was our favorite: fresh & bright with an original mix of flavors: very good! The cod croquettes were heavily fried, the calamari pretty standard & the oysters uneven. Attentive service helped brighten our time.View more
The place was full on a Sunday evening! We split 7 dishes between three people. The fingerling potatoes with chimichuri were deliciously crispy, the broccoli with labneh & the carrot salad were filling. We also had a cod croquette each & I think we wish we all had another each. The chicken thigh dish was a salad of sorts but went well with the carrot salad. The risotto was rich & creamy. The calamari was disappointing- it didn't feel like the flavours went together & the dish was too wide so it got cold quite quickly. Highly recommend this spot!View more
Never had a bad meal here. We don't really eat meat so can't pronounce myself on those dishes, but the broccoli spaetzle (still on the menu thank you!), fennel salad, tomato peach salad, eggplant dip, roasted fingerling, cod fritters - all succulent. Good wine selection too, overall no reason to not come back as much as possible. Yum!View more
I had a mixed experience at Cadet. While some dishes were spectacular (the fennel salad, broccoli, steak tartare), some were confusingly flat & lacking depth of flavour (tomato salad, calamari, chicken thighs). The chocolate tart was decent. Service was exceptional. I may give it another shot but I was a little bit disappointed.View more
The server was nice, & the atmosphere was nice as well. The food was well presented, but a lot of the flavors were mute. The dessert was amazing tho.
Would recommend trying it once. Also AVOID the salad in the corner of the image. Idk who said orange in a salad was goodView more
Had a great meal last Friday night with my wife as we were up visiting for a long weekend for her birthday. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here & the staff & service too. The oysters were unreal - super fresh, petite, plump, briny, etc. - & then the fennel salad & chicken thighs were great too. We ended with the cheesecake for dessert. Also the cocktails all evening were delicious & we'll be stopping in every future visit to Montreal.View more
