The food was a bit spicy which I was not expecting & very little portions. Not very many kid friendly plates due to the spice level.View more
Essentially a'build your own' tasting menu that features an impressive rotation of small plates perfect for sharing between guests. Do not come if you're not a sharer! Although there are individual-sized plates, ordering such takes the fun concept out of this awesome restaurant!View more
Amazing food, the waiter at the bar refused to speak English until we ordered a few plates & wine. Left a sour taste in our mouths.View more
Exceptional Tapas & Wine Pairings at Cadet - A Must in Montreal
Located on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in the heart of Montreal's Quartier des Spectacles, Cadet is a vibrant & stylish restaurant that has earned its place among the Michelin-recommended gems of the city. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between casual & chic, making it ideal for a night out with friends or a pre-show dinner.
The menu features a variety of refined tapas-style plates designed for sharing. The standout for us was the black cod (morue charbonnière)-incredibly tender, beautifully caramelized, & full of delicate flavor. Each dish we tried was thoughtfully presented, with excellent attention to balance & texture.
One of the highlights of the experience was the wine pairing. The selections were expertly matched to each course, enhancing the flavors without overpowering them. It's clear that great care goes into curating both the food & beverage offerings.
For dessert, the chocolate, caramel, & banana tart was simply unforgettable-rich & indulgent without being too heavy.
The service was warm, knowledgeable, & genuinely welcoming. The staff made us feel right at home while guiding us through the menu.
In short, Cadet delivers a polished & memorable dining experience. Highly recommended for food lovers visiting Montreal.View more
We ordered 9 plates for 3 people, each plate was explained at the table, very tasty & fresh ingredients!View more
Tapas style restaurant, nice place to share food.
We order focaccia bread, cod croquette & 3 different salad as there's not many vegetarian options.
The focaccia bread is home made accompanied by a mild spicy sauce, which we find a nice touch to reduce the burnt-ish flavor off some parts of the bread.
We continued with the beet salad, & it is excellently delicious - very well executed. The dressing sauce definitely makes this dish a die-for for us!
Then comes the oyster mushroom salad. We found it less impressive than the beet salad, but the taste is quite nice with fresh touch of sliced pears harmonizing flavors.
The eggplant plate is, however, quite disappointing despite its beautiful presentation. We found it overly salty & the flavor pair seems a bit odd - spicy jalapeno + tangy pomegranate - that doesn't go well for us.
Last but not least, the cod croquette put a nice ending to our meal - it is flavorful & crispy when being dipped into yummy mayonnaise sauce.
The waiters were kind but it seems that we received less attention than other tables around us because we didn't order anything to drink. When we finished our meal, no one came to check on us to ask for desserts or coffee. & we had to wave our hands to get someone's attention for the bill.
Overall, our experience was pleasant & we enjoyed the ambiance.View more
The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between elegant & relaxed - a welcome contrast to the bustling city. It gave us the space to actually unwind & have a proper conversation, which is often rare these days.
The food? Absolutely divine. We shared a beautifully prepared plate of black cod, which practically melted in our mouths. Alongside it, we enjoyed their soft & savoury focaccia, tender scallops, perfectly cooked oyster mushrooms, & some of the best calamari I've had in ages.
What truly stood out, however, was the exceptional service. As someone who's lactose intolerant, I'm used to a bit of back-&-forth when dining out - but not here. The waiting staff kindly curated a personalized list of everything on the menu I could enjoy without worry, & I was incredibly grateful for that extra care.
All in all, Cadet is an absolute must if you're after a delicious, mindful dining experience in Montreal. Highly recommend for a memorable night out!View more
So.... maybe I failed on taking photos of the dishes before we ate ... I think the empty plates speak volumes. This was a recommendation from a local... & they did not disappoint. Excellent sharing plates. We had a good number of them. They were inventive, whimsical & delicious! To note... the croquettes, the beet salad, the leeks, the broccoli.. the wine selection was extensive.. we chose a little known Sicilian white wine... it was excellent. The service was beyond reproach. Our server Mathilde made excellent recommendations. Her service was attentive without being overbearing & always with a smile. We will be back. Thank you again for an excellent experience! We will certainly recommend you to our friends. AndrewView more
The food is pretty good but the experience was definitely brought down by the quality of service of the servers. No hospitality felt & no technical habilities (would push our shoulders to pick up the plate or cross our plate with their arms). The level of service does not go with the price charged for the food.View more
Went they're in Monday night before a show. The atmosphere was good & the waiters are nice. The food was good but nothing impressive. A little bit disappointed about the food temperature. Some plates arrived cold when it's supposed to be warm.View more
Overall, cadet was pretty good & the service was really nice. However, don't be surprised at the size & price of the plates. 6 pieces of gnocchi in a bit of sauce for 24$. Portions are pretty small, we had to order one more dish to the already 2 we ate + the focaccia to be sustained Dessert was bomb tho ! Recommandation are the foccacia & the bread pudding for sure. The gnocchi & the beef tartare were pretty disappointing. They do have good cocktails.View more
We had a superb meal at Cadet. 2 adults & a child had 5 plates plus the focaccia & we were stuffed. I think the steak plate counts as two. Each dish was unique & meticulously prepared. The beans (green beans) was an excellent salad like dish with many flavors & textures. It took me a minute to figure out unwrapping the leeks instead of cutting them & they were a good texture in a nice sauce. Our two favorite dishes were the ratte potatoes (great sauce) & the beets. The server recommended a very nice cocktail for my wife & I hade an excellent glass of wine.View more
What a great experience - The vibe is very cool, good house music in the background, not too loud so conversation is easy. Our server was friendly, timely, & the wait staff are well coordinated. We started off with 2 house cocktails (gin / mezcal ) which were delicious, shared 3 plates, 2 glasses of wine & a dessert. The salmon & broccoli dishes were amazing, as was the bread pudding. The table next to us was raving about their plates too. Perfect amount of food to share for 2. Reasonably priced (under $200 with good tip) for food quality, presentation, service & location. We loved it - definitely go back to try other dishes on the menu.View more
One of my best dining experiences in Montreal. The unassuming exterior gives way to a classy dining room where you can see some of the kitchen at work. The menu is all about sharing & has both smaller plates & larger items. Standout dishes among a dinner that was made up of all winners were the oyster mushrooms, tomato & burrata salad, & duck. The duck includes foie gras & is counterbalanced with a selection of veg & pear that is quite unique. One small plate per person & a larger one between two will satisfy the not so hungry & keep space for dessert.View more
We enjoyed our tapas plates here with the advice of our wonderful server. She advised us to order 4-5 plates between the two of us & when we ordered the whole sea bass (delicious!) she said 4 would be plenty. Left leaving very satisfied & had a short walk to Jazz Fest stages from there.View more
Small plates to share that were not too small. Everything we had was wonderful. We sat at the bar in a late seating. We selected the beef tartare & the scallops, which also turned out to be raw, as well as oyster mushrooms, asparagus (wrapped in ham), & ricotta gnocchi. All were outstanding. Our waiter suggested an order of presentation that turned out to be perfect, as well as wine parings.View more
Easily the best dining experience our group had while visiting Montreal. Highly recommend for sharing various plates with a group. We each ordered 2 items & it was plenty of food - each dish was delicious & plated beautifully. The bread pudding was a great way to finish off our meal.View more
I think this is a secret gem of Montreal. I went with a friend who is not a big food person & they loved it. The small plates were imaginative, beautiful & delicious. She ate one of the dishes with gusto - I've known her for decades & never saw her take such joy in food. I love to eat & I adored this place.View more
This was a dining experience. Small plate tapas style, the portions are perfect & designed for sharing for two people. Order at least 2 per person. The craft cocktails are amazing. Service was decent, a little slow but very friendly. Food came out fast & delicious.View more
What an amazing restaurant. We are in Montreal for a weekend visit & had the best meal in a very long time at Cadet (our first but not last visit). Plates are smaller for sharing, tapas style. We ordered 5 dishes & 2 desserts for 2 people. Total bill with 2 bottles of sparkling water (no alcohol) came to $160 before tip. Every bite was delicious & prepared to perfection, & the service attentive, friendly & quick. The atmosphere a perfect mix of lively while still being able to hold a conversation. We will definitely come back here & highly recommend Cadet for a great experience. We had the following dishes, which I would all highly recommend: - Lobster & shrimp - Fennel & citrus salad - Scallop ceviche - Gnocchi with pork - Broccoli & spaetzle - Bread pudding - Lemon Yuzu ganacheView more
Original & unique plates, every single one was spot clean after we were done. Everything we had was delicious, by order of preference : 1) Brocoli (house specialty, don't miss it but it is quite heavy) 2) scallops 3) beef tartare 4) salmon 5] lamb chops (despite being highly reviewed, we found it to be pretty basic & the least impressive yet still okay) 6) bread pudding (not great, would recommend trying another dessert)View more
Very vibrant & fun atmosphere. Staff is quick & know their food/cocktail/wine menus very well. Every single plate was flavourful & tasty. I recommend coming here over Bouillon Bilk ! More fun ;)View more
