The Jardin Provencal was expertly made by a friendly young man who talked to us about local products. A great end to the day!
My wife & I ate here to celebrate her upcoming birthday. Let me say, what a delight from start to finish. We arrived when it was very busy & only the only available seats were at the bar. No problem for us! I ordered the Steak Frites with tempered expectations & was blown away by the quality of my meal. Not only was my steak cooked a perfect medium rare but I haven't had a steak so sumptuous in quite some time. After dinner we stuck around & had a few cocktails which were prepared in front of us & ultimately went down perhaps a little too easily! Next time we are in Montreal we will be back!
We had an amazing dinner 🍽? at Brasserie 701, right in front of Basilica Notre-Dame De Montréal. This is our second visit to this restaurant located inside the hotel. We always get thrilled with the ambience inside. Me & my wife ordered Beef 🥩 Bourguignon for the main course & a cocktail 🍸
The beef was well cooked & it was yummy. Nice aroma of the spices. We both enjoyed it. We highly recommend to make reservations in advance as it is always packed. In addition, I would also recommend to dress casually/professionally, rather than wearing shorts or junky-cut dresses (I saw some people wearing that, which I found a bit unethical). I always wear three piece suit for a candle 🕯? light dinner 🍲 with my wife. Will visit again in the future. Merci beaucoup.
I came to Montreal for the history, the architecture, the culture, & the short track speed skating world championships… but I stayed for the dirty martinis at Brasserie 701.
Enter Shady - bartender, mixology wizard, & the only man I've ever seen shake a cocktail with the quiet confidence of Patrick Mahomes in the fourth quarter. The resemblance is uncanny. If Mahomes ever needs an offseason job, I'm convinced he's already been moonlighting behind this bar.
As a Toronto girl, I take my martinis very seriously. Shady served me two of the most delicious dirty martinis I've ever had with some potent local gin. Perfectly chilled, perfectly salty, & strong enough to make me briefly consider moving to Montreal permanently.
Service: 10/10
Martinis: 12/10
Mahomes doppelganger energy: off the charts.
If you find yourself at Brasserie 701, do yourself a favour: ask Shady for a dirty martini. Just be warned - you'll probably end up ordering a second one. I certainly did. 🍸
Went for lunch & had an amazing Hanger steak with fries. Cocktails are top notch too. Service was impeccable!
Perfect evening at this restaurant, alovely dinner with my friends!! The atmosphere was great. Nice cocktail list, with a special mention for the Perles du Dragon & the Aurora. I loved the cheese board to share & the beef bourguignon. The service was wonderful, everyone who interacted with us was kind & helpful! :) I'll be back on my next trip to Montreal.
Booked a 4 party table for my birthday & just had the most wonderful experience! Great staff, amazing food & cocktails. Everyone was so welcoming & professional. Highly recommend as an intimate yet beautiful setting.
Thank you Brasserie 701 for an amazing birthday!
Waouh !
Great place just as you enter Old Montréal near the basilica. Food was excellent, ingredients are fresh & the portions are just the right amount. Good selection of wines & cocktails. Ambiance was good, it was not overly crowded, however, it was a very rainy evening, so there were just less people out & about. Overall a great experience.
A solid option to chill while it's freezing outside or just to rest after a long day of sightseeing. We came here on a Monday, quite late for lunch. In between lunch & dinner they got a reduced menu that has a little bit for everyone. There are plenty of tables around, so you can choose easily, the dining room is absolutely amazing, along with the huge windows that bring some light into the place.
There are two reasons why I gave it 4 stars,
First it took quite a bit of time to prepare 2 martinis we had ordered, up to the point where I wasn't sure if I had ordered them anymore.. after arrived they were ok prepared but were tiny (which hurts a bit at 17CAD +tax +tip)… after mentioning this to the bartender for the second round, he got his measurements right & this time the cocktails were on point & just perfect before flying the whole night afterwards.
Second, the burger we ordered was fine, with great quality ingredients & well prepared fries… but the meat was on the less intense flavor side & quite overcooked. But the cheese, vegetables & sauces were on point & really hit the spot.
It's a place that I would come back if the opportunity comes, it has a good atmosphere & the service while not perfect it's authentic, relatable & they care about the service they provide which is something that can always be noticed & appreciated.
Went back & the experience was a lot less exciting. Maybe the server wasn't interested but overall it was a miss. Did basically a repeat of the last experience & found everything to be very middle of the road. The drinks were ok but didn't wow like the last time. The tartare was the standout of the dinner & really hit the spot. Moving to the marrow & escargot everything was perfectly cooked & well seasoned. The gnocchi was good & the peas were perfectly crisp with a nice balanced sauce. The bouillabaisse was also good. Perfectly cooked & balanced well also. Portions were massive & we left a lot on the plates. I would probably go back again as this time was pretty lackluster. Maybe it was an off night. I absolutely loved Brasserie 701. Seated quickly & started with drinks. A Cosmo & Capitaine Rubis were a start. The Rubis was really a fantastic cocktail, well balanced & that last taste of maple was really the best part. I'm not a maple fan but that cocktail is something everyone should try. I tried 3 if that's any indication of it's quality. Next up the Escargot & Beef Tartare. The escargot was perfectly cooked, well-seasoned & better than expected. As good as any I've previously experienced. A fantastic order. The tartare was really fantastic too. It's one of those dishes that really should be something you order. We chose a trou normand & the sorbet was quite refreshing. I think that's more of a take it or leave it but we enjoyed ours. The main course: I chose the risotto with lobster tail & my companion chose the lamb shank. Both were perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked & a great portion. The gnocchi with the lamb was the best surprise of the meal. Perfect density & that sweetness was just right. It was a fantastic meal that I'd rate among the best places that I've eaten at. dessert was the creme brulee & a cafe au lait. The bitterness of the coffee & the sweet creme brulee hit so perfectly in balance I have never been so happy to order dessert. Service was great. Very attentive, not rushed at all but the timings were perfect. I felt like our server was excellent & a true professional. The environment is really nice for dining. It's about the right lighting although I needed a light to read the menu. But I'm old so it is what it is. The volume is surprisingly good for conversation. The price is amazing. In the US I have paid 3X for similar quality food. I'll be eating here every time I'm in Montreal. It's a staple dining establishment.
We had an amazing brunch here! The avocado toast (with perfectly poached eggs) & steak & eggs were amazing & the cocktails were on point. Maeva's service was awesome & she was so sweet to bring us a little treat to help me celebrate my birthday. For the gluten free folks out there, they do have gluten free bread & were very accommodating of my allergy. I would definitely come back!
We had two visits to this bar inside the Hotel Place d'Armes, one was for an afternoon cocktail & a snack- the charcuterie was simple & a good size for pre-dinner snacking. The bartender John was nice to chat with. Then we popped in for breakfast, generous portions & served quickly. We were very pleased with breakfast & a mimosa to end our vacation stay.
Lovely seafood, mussels were spectacular!!! Cocktails were so lovely.
We went here for brunch & it was amazing ! The staff were all really polite & friendly. Food was great & the drinks were even better. We want to give a special shout-out to our bartender Cam for his excellent service & outstanding cocktails. We would definitely recommend coming here.
