You're limiting food waste & allowing people without a lot of extra spending room to enjoy your amazing products, the absolute hallmark of a local business that deserves support. Thank you for what you bring to Montréal, you have a great team, exceptional bread/pastries, & you provide a great model for other businesses.
Such a wonderful boulangerie! Located in the heart of Le Plateau, they truly have everything you could want: beautifully crafted artisanal breads, delicious pastries (including croissants reminiscent of top Paris boulangeries), cakes, & plenty of savory options like quiches & sandwiches.
The coffee is excellent, the staff are friendly, & the atmosphere is both cozy & bright. I love the furniture & how the large windows fill the space with light no matter where you sit.
Just keep in mind that it can get quite busy, & finding a seat might be tricky, even on a Monday afternoon.
Pastries are such a personal delight - what melts one person's heart might feel a bit too sweet for another. I recently indulged in Toledo's chocolate éclair filled with chocolate cream, but I found it a bit on the sugary side. Interestingly, I wasn't alone in that opinion.
It seems the tide is turning toward less sugary treats, creating desserts that strike a perfect balance & appeal to a broader range of taste buds.
Le Toledo is a popular bakery on Mont-Royal Avenue, a lively pedestrian street lined with cafés, bakeries, & restaurants. Several locals we met recommended it, & it's easy to see why. The bakery is quite large, with plenty of tables & seating inside, making it a comfortable spot to enjoy your treats on site.
When we visited mid-afternoon, there was a short line, but it moved quickly thanks to the efficient team of staff behind the counter. Everyone was friendly, spoke both French & English, & happily explained the pastries & their ingredients.
Prices are very reasonable: cookies start around $3 CAD, croissants at $2.50 CAD, & pastries like brioche & cinnamon rolls are also available. I ordered a chocolatine (pain au chocolat) for $3.25 CAD & a caramel cream cruffin for $5 CAD. Both were excellent-crispy on the outside, soft & airy on the inside, & full of flavor.
If you're strolling Mont-Royal Avenue, Le Toledo is absolutely worth a stop. Grab a couple pastries to enjoy on the spot or take away-you really can't go wrong here.
The pastries & other offerings are delicious, the space is beautiful with plenty of seating options, & the people who work there are always helpful & friendly.
How many delicious pastries can I eat? Great selection of classics & new ones. Excellent bread. Great space for talking & watching. Long line but it moves
Opens very early which is kind of unique in the neighbourhood.
Watching fresh bread being baked & amazing French pastries in large portions with tasty coffees is indeed an amazing start of the day!
As a lover & connoisseur of bread, the baguette is exceptional. Other pastries are great & affordable. The staff seem to be enjoying themselves as well which is hopefully a sign that they enjoy working there & are treated well. Great croissant.
Everything was perfect. I got a cheesecake, & cheesecakes are my specialty. I'm very picky about them, but this one was a 10 out of 10. A real cheesecake. Absolutely delicious. The seating area was also nice, a perfect place to study, hang out with friends, or even just relax alone. Their pastries were all amazing too. My sister & brothers got a variety, & everything looked & tasted great. They had a lot of options, both sweet & savoury, which I assume are just as good. Anyway, I definitely recommend this place & will be going back.
Really excellent cold brew, I highly recommend the apple turnover & the other pastries are great too!
Delicious pastry & cool atmosphere.
I recommend visiting early as most pastries are gone by afternoon.
From the friendly staff to the vast array of baked goods, you can't beat this place. Their artisan bread selection is great. They have various sandwiches in savory items, & every type of coffee you want. But the best part to me were the flaky French pastries, & various cookies they make. In my travels, I visit every French bakery up, possibly can. This place ranks way up at the top level. Add to that, the staff is quite friendly & accommodating with no attitude at all.
If you've ever dreamed of reliving those lazy Parisian mornings-where the scent of fresh croissants mingles with the hum of café chatter-then Boulangerie Le Toledo is your Montreal dream come true.
From the moment you step inside, the air is thick with the aroma of artisan breads & buttery pastries. The vibe? Think cozy corner bistro with a touch of Montreal joie de vivre. The staff are friendly & efficient, & the space is always buzzing with locals & visitors alike.
Now, let's talk highlights. The chausson aux pommes-oh là là! Generous, flaky, & bursting with apple goodness. It's hands-down the best I've had in Canada, & every bite whisks me back to my student days in France, where pastries were a way of life. Pair it with their espresso, which is robust, smooth, & just the right temperature.
But don't stop at the chausson. The croissants are buttery & crisp, the sourdough is chewy perfection, & the sandwiches (especially the bagnat poulet & ciabatta with tuna) are worthy of a Parisian lunch break. The almond croissant? A must-try.
Le Toledo isn't just a bakery, it's a destination. With its communal tables, free WiFi, & sunlit windows, it's the perfect spot to linger with a book or catch up with friends. Whether you're a Montreal local or just passing through, make sure to arrive early!
Final verdict: If you're looking for a reason to fall in love with Le Plateau all over again, this is it. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!
I only had an espresso but it was excellent. pastries were bit pricey but will visit again for great coffee.
Swung by for a quick breakfast & absolutely loved everything we tried here! All of the pastries were fresh & super tasty, we especially loved the goat cheese focaccia :)
I don't understand this concept. The kitchen with a glass partition is very beautifully made so that guests can see the process, baking, pleasant prices, appetizing pastries & a lot of choices, BUT when I say bakery, I imagine a slightly different comfort, there is also a long table in the middle where people sit with computers, next to it is a small sofa with a very low uncomfortable table. & there is a bench along the walls around the perimeter of the institution. Bench! Without tables or anything, there is nowhere to put the cup.How u can drink coffee & eat same time without table ? Weird. I don't understand it. Every where mess & dirty , The girl didn't take my order till the end & took another customer.Maybe for a quick coffee & something to have a snack, it's a good place, but not for gatherings with friends. Coffee is great & food /pastries are really Not good . How can a bakery not have an oven to heat the pastries
Great pastries & coffee, bad music! Heavy & not at all suited for a relaxing cup of coffee.
