I had an amazing experience at this bakery shop. The staff are friendly, helpful & provide service with a smile. Special mention for Adrian for his recommendations & great service. Highly recommended.
The chocolate éclair 5/5 was rich but not overly sweet. The apple chausson is also 5/5?had incredibly flaky pastry with a very fresh, light apple filling. Everything tasted balanced & well made. Definitely a 5/5 bakery for me - one of those places I still crave after the trip.

Popular local bakery with great croissants & French pastries.
Sunday morning chaos, but worth the 10-minute stool hunt. This location is in one of the busiest neighborhoods in the city, so there were a lot of locals, but they're known to only use local Quebec flours & slow fermentation. We grabbed the pain suisse, chausson aux pommes, chausson dejeuner, & the almond croissant, & most of them were great.
Super crunchy layers on the almond croissant without collapsing it flat. Slightly overbaked, which gave that cookie-like crunch with just enough caramelization without bitterness. The almond mousse inside balanced it out perfectly.
The apple turnover (chausson aux pommes) was also excellent. More like a cold apple pie filling (light, not very tart-y) than a turnover, & the flaky & butter outer layer was impeccable. Only thing I didn't quite enjoy was the Chausson Dejeuner. Essentially a ham & cheese croissant, but the outer layer was way too dense & thick. Didn't quite get much ham & cheese in each bite, lost in all that dough. Still, a fantastic neighborhood spot doing serious baking.
This bakery was lovely, the staff were so helpful & accommodating, the food was delicious & the matcha was good!! I was visiting Montreal & stopped in on my way home first a road snack. I'm gluten intolerant & they helped me find the right person to talk to so we could make sure my dietary needs were met. At first it seemed like there wasn't anything they carried I could eat so I decided to get a matcha. I'm picky about matcha & this one was very good! Just as I got my drink the person I was speaking to found me & brought me macaroons! They are 100% gluten free & they were so yummy! Satisfying to bite into, the coconut is perfectly chewable, not dry. I highly recommend checking them out!
Incredible bakery with solid coffee! I've never been disappointed by any of their baked goods & they are always cycling in new items.
Their seating area is usually busy, but they are located close to La Fontaine (a beautiful park). I would strongly recommend enjoying your pastry & coffee at the park.
Super nice bakery in plateau Mont Royal neighbourhood! Like their live ambiance & the great cafe! If you are looking for a healthy meal & not heavy they have some tomato salad with mozzarella cheese ,that was very refreshing is hot summer days, also I really liked the flan de caramel for dessert. Highly recommended!

My cookie prayers have been answered!!
Due to my food sensitivity to eggs & dairy, it's extremely difficult to find cookies that I can safely enjoy.
TOLEDO's vegan chocolate cookies have answered my prayers!! Not only are they dairy free & egg free, they ACTUALLY taste good. Chewy & chocolatey, just like a good cookie should be!!
Sadly, I only discovered them towards the end of my stay in Montreal. I brought 4 back to Vancouver with me...should have bought more!!!
Le Toledo is a popular bakery on Mont-Royal Avenue, a lively pedestrian street lined with cafés, bakeries, & restaurants. Several locals we met recommended it, & it's easy to see why. The bakery is quite large, with plenty of tables & seating inside, making it a comfortable spot to enjoy your treats on site.
When we visited mid-afternoon, there was a short line, but it moved quickly thanks to the efficient team of staff behind the counter. Everyone was friendly, spoke both French & English, & happily explained the pastries & their ingredients.
Prices are very reasonable: cookies start around $3 CAD, croissants at $2.50 CAD, & pastries like brioche & cinnamon rolls are also available. I ordered a chocolatine (pain au chocolat) for $3.25 CAD & a caramel cream cruffin for $5 CAD. Both were excellent-crispy on the outside, soft & airy on the inside, & full of flavor.
If you're strolling Mont-Royal Avenue, Le Toledo is absolutely worth a stop. Grab a couple pastries to enjoy on the spot or take away-you really can't go wrong here.
Best bakery in the area. Excellent bread, croissants (the chocolatine is only ok), the chocolate chip cookie is mediocre but the caramel one is to die for. The apple turnover is fine. Really you're coming here for the bread, & it's a nice place to sit as well. Always busy, in a good way. Nice staff.

Nice bakery in the Plateau. I was glad to see a lot of locals coming in & out. They certainly are busy. Their workflow reminds me of that at Porto's, the Cuban bakery from Burbank, California. The servers are fast. Come early in the day because they sell out of stuff.
I'm no croissant expert, but the one I had here was better than the one I had at a random cafe the other day. The croissant (CAD$2.50) from Toledo was airy & flaky. I had an iced americano $3.50, & it tasted great as well.
The peach kouign amann $5 was a new thing in August. I enjoyed this the most. It was so dense & not terribly sweet. The focaccia $14 was also really good! It was a large square, & they cut it into two triangles for me. The dough was great. This makes me think their bread must be delicious too. I would try some bread next time.
I bought a package of the vanilla madeleines $6.50, but I didn't really like them. I didn't see other people buying them either, so maybe it's not just me that thinks the madeleines aren't good.
Plenty of seating inside but with non-matching tables & chairs. They have large windows, so the sun makes it hot inside.
Apple Pay/credit card accepted.
No wifi
No bathroom
From the friendly staff to the vast array of baked goods, you can't beat this place. Their artisan bread selection is great. They have various sandwiches in savory items, & every type of coffee you want. But the best part to me were the flaky French pastries, & various cookies they make. In my travels, I visit every French bakery up, possibly can. This place ranks way up at the top level. Add to that, the staff is quite friendly & accommodating with no attitude at all.

If you've ever dreamed of reliving those lazy Parisian mornings-where the scent of fresh croissants mingles with the hum of café chatter-then Boulangerie Le Toledo is your Montreal dream come true.
From the moment you step inside, the air is thick with the aroma of artisan breads & buttery pastries. The vibe? Think cozy corner bistro with a touch of Montreal joie de vivre. The staff are friendly & efficient, & the space is always buzzing with locals & visitors alike.
Now, let's talk highlights. The chausson aux pommes-oh là là! Generous, flaky, & bursting with apple goodness. It's hands-down the best I've had in Canada, & every bite whisks me back to my student days in France, where pastries were a way of life. Pair it with their espresso, which is robust, smooth, & just the right temperature.
But don't stop at the chausson. The croissants are buttery & crisp, the sourdough is chewy perfection, & the sandwiches (especially the bagnat poulet & ciabatta with tuna) are worthy of a Parisian lunch break. The almond croissant? A must-try.
Le Toledo isn't just a bakery, it's a destination. With its communal tables, free WiFi, & sunlit windows, it's the perfect spot to linger with a book or catch up with friends. Whether you're a Montreal local or just passing through, make sure to arrive early!
Final verdict: If you're looking for a reason to fall in love with Le Plateau all over again, this is it. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!
