This is a very special place!! I can't think of a better way to spend our last night in Montreal. The atmosphere, food, & service were all extremely elevated! I couldn't have asked for a better experience from start to finish. Don't skip the souffle for dessert!

Overall, the food is very standard & quality or even maybe lower than regular restaurant & not worth the price. 1. Lobster bisque: standard soup. Not bad but not good. 2. Duck foie gras: the combination of the ingredient does not help to enhance the flavour. The duck foie gras instead of regular foie gras can tell you they try to cheap out. 3. Smoke salmon: random ingredient combination. Basically pieces of salmon with some vegetable. 4. Shrimp & scollop: wonderful shrimp taste, but a bit over cooked scollop. I think their plate is way hot for this dish. The seafood fish does not need this. 5. Rabbit conflict: prob one of the best one. Like the pastry texture. But again, same salad on the side. 6. Sober: like this part of the menu. Nevertheless, wish the sparking wine is actually a bit more fizz. It would bring up the taste more. 7. Lamb rack: horrible. The lamb quality is ordinary. The potato is not cooked thorough. All the vegetable have nothing to do with lamb flavour. The sauce is super thick, like syrup as shown in the last picture. 8. Filet mignon: initially ordered medium rare, but turns out to be medium to well done. We asked for the redone. The second piece is amazing. The best dish of the night. The meat is soft & tender, well balenced favor. Again, uncooked potato. 9. dessert: the dessert make me feel like this restaurant wants to give quantity than quality. Every single one taste like something u can get from random grocery shop. I couldn't finish any of the three. 10. Service: the waitress was nice. But I think the management was not good. We sit down for 10 mins without anyone coming up to us or offer water. 11. Taste menu: no creation at all. That's maybe the reason why their service do not even need to introduce or explain the dish ar all. It is my first time ever having a tasting menu & can visually see the simple combination of the ingredient which does not require explanation. 12. Nice location for the restaurant, I guess some fees goes to the location.

Fantastic restaurant. The staff were kind & professional & spoke both French & English. The food was delicious. We heard from a friend that their duck is delicious, & can confirm. Would highly recommend the duck confit. The roasted duck breast was also good, but the confit was the hands-down winner. Their cocktails were great, as were the desserts. Must get the creme brulee.

Bonaparte's location in the old port centre is part & parcel to the old-world charm. Inside, the restaurant is well-appointed & elegant. Music softly complimented the ambiance. Our food was most delicious: Lobster bisque & onion for starters; entrees included the Boeuf à la bourguignonne (Beef bourguignonne) & Suprême de volaille au brie du Québec fondant, crème de sauge (chicken with brie & sage) with Creme Brule & Napoleon for our desserts. The staff was appropriately attentive, proper, & friendly. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience!

This restaurant perfectly embodies the essence of Old Port: good looks, no substance. We got the tasting menu. The appetizers were interesting but nonetheless disappointing. For example the foie gras crème brûlée was an interesting concept, but didn't deliver. The savouriness did not pair well with the pear compote. The lobster bisque was thoroughly disappointing. It was grainy & lacked any flavor other than the stench of a fish market. There was little, if any, lobster in it. For a meal of this price, it's a slap in the face. The entrées were similarly lackluster... by the time they came. The lamb stew was decent, but the sauce had coagulated. It wasn't memorable, & not something I recommend spending money on. The poisson du jour was average, but the sides it came with were scarce & unimaginative. Finally the desserts were good, but nothing special. All in all, I cannot recommend spending money at this restaurant. You're far better off going somewhere outside of Old Port.

Go for: a legitimate fine-dining experience, from start to finish. Avoid if: you're not sure which piece of silverware to use first. Something surprising: the number of different servers that waited the table throughout the meal. Reservation needed? Yes, definitely Overall Experience: Strong 4/5. It was an extremely busy spot & we had to wait despite having a reservation, but the staff was incredibly professional & the food was what you'd expect from a high-end French restaurant. You would be wise to order the Profitérole for dessert. Value for Price: 4 Sanitation: 5 Food Quality: 5 Menu Precision: 4 Service Quality: 5 Timing: 3 Decor: 4 Access: 4 - 5 among the best 4 strong 3 not too bad 2 mediocre 1 never again

Went here for my wife's birthday while on a trip to Montreal. C'est magnifique! Everything was...completely & utterly perfect. From the cocktails (an excellent Vieux Carre for me) to the tasting menu (the rabbit in the phyllo was my favorite) -- all amazing. Of note, they surprised my wife in the tasting menu - on the dessert plate it came out with a sparkler in it. The entire restaurant could not take their eyes off of it. It was spectacular!!!!

Updated review: ambiance is good, staff is a bit less experienced than it used to be but did very well :)

Food took a nose dive since our last visit. We had the tasting menu & this was not our first time so our expectations were high. The lobster bisque lacked depths, salt & the twist you would expect from such a place. It tasted like lobster bouillon mainly. The Smoked Salmon & the scallops appetizers were amazing. The mushroom raviolis were dry & crunchy around the edges as if there were left outside under a heating lamp too long.
The mains were good. However my wife was disappointed by the size of the lobster serving. About one claw… I was expecting also expecting the desserts to be at the same level as last time but was let down. Dried out macarons are just not Ok for a place that charges 150$-200$ per person . If it was a regular restaurant maybe our expectations would be lower, but a place of this standing & price you expect impeccable food & service. Not to mention the fact that the neighbouring table returned their dessert & didn’t seem impressed.

Disappointed to be honest. It used to be a favourite.

A great experience at Bonaparte overall. We found the host to be a bit unwelcoming in the beginning, which was odd, but our waiter was outstanding. The food was presented beautifully & tasted delicious. The mushroom ravioli appetizer & duck breast main dish were major highlights for us. The soufflé dessert was tasty & worth the wait as well. One disappointment was that we advised in our reservation that the reason for our visit was our anniversary, but there was no mention of it by the service staff. Not a deal breaker, but why ask if there’s no reason to ask? Merci beaucoup Bonaparte! Highly recommended.

Every aspect of our dinner was delightful, from the first cocktail on through to dessert. The food was better than I was anticipating; absolutely delicious. & Pauline, our server, made the experience even more special with her humor & positive attitude. We will definitely be returning!

What a disappointment. We came here to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary because they are "known for special occasions." To begin with, the food was quite flavorless & extremely overpriced. The onion soup had almost no flavor & tasted like they put some onions in broth. Their "specialty" lobster bisque wasn't much better. The mushroom ravioli was quite good. From there, the dishes were completely underwhelming, especially at $50 price points. Then came the theatrics. The manager decided it best to berate our waitress in front of the entire dining room & basically right next to our table. The entire night we saw them bringing sparklers with plates of desserts to every table, but absolutely nothing to celebrate the 50th anniversary (the manager wished them a happy 50th as we walked in, so it's not like he didn't know). When we mentioned it to our server, the staff brought out an embarrassment of a square of cheesecake that was thrown on our table after we had finished all of our food. The only saving grace was our server, Genevieve, who was absolutely wonderful. Upon leaving, we also noticed how dirty the lobby was with fully formed spider webs above the front desk. Eat here at your own risk.
