Bonaparte se distingue par une élégante ambiance française et un cadre chaleureux au cœur du Vieux-Montréal. Le service est généralement attentif et professionnel, avec une équipe accueillante et connaissant bien le menu et les accords vins. La cuisine, fidèle à l'esprit français, met en valeur des plats comme le canard confit, le magret de canard, le filet et l'agneau, ainsi que des fruits de mer et des desserts délicats, et les menus dégustation avec les accords offrent souvent une expérience réussie. Le cadre intime et la présentation soignée créent une atmosphère idéale pour une soirée romantique ou une occasion spéciale. Le choix est varié, les plats sont souvent décrits comme savoureux et bien exécutés, et la carte des vins et les cocktails apportent une belle touche. We stayed at the Hotel Bonaparte & decided to dine in for dinner downstairs.
We ordered off the menu a la carté instead of doing the tasting, which also seemed delicious.
Started off with the soup of the day which was a celery & leek soup that they served to us in 2 plates as we were sharing.
For apps we ordered the homemade smoked salmon & the mushroom ravioli, both were so tasty. I'm a bit biased for any dish that has mushrooms & salmon haha.
For mains we shared the scallop delight & one of the specials, which was a hanger steak. You can never go wrong with a buttery scallop & grilled veggies. The steak in it's jus was 👌👌.
For dessert we ordered the chocolate soufflé, which takes about 20mins to prepare. The servers & manager were so accommodating of our baby & even offered to bring us our dessert while we went upstairs to feed our baby. We ended up coming back down & finishing up the soufflé there but it was a nice offer from them.
Ended off the night not being overly full, which is always a great feeling!
A must-do in Old Montreal. This cozy French restaurant had charm, warm ambiance, super delicious food, & an amazing staff! The staff were really friendly, fun, & knowledgeable about the menu & drink options. I tried Artic Char for the first time & now it's my absolute new favourite. My husband had duck confit cooked to perfection. The dessert souffle was not only delicious but also a beautiful treat! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Bonaparte is consistently a great experience. The service is always top notch & feels like such a luxury. My favorite dishes are the vanilla shrimp & scallops, the brie chicken entrée, & the profiteroles for dessert. They also have amazing French fries & cocktails.
Restaurant Bonaparte is nice but unremarkable-nothing I ate was offensive, but nothing really impressed me.
Cocktail options are fun, & the cream of mushroom soup was very good. The plating on the entrees seemed a little tacky & unrefined. The lamb was well cooked & had good texture, though lacked flavor to me, & the chicken with brie similarly tasted like… chicken & brie, & nothing else. The duck was pretty good though in a very sweet sauce.
The desserts were standard, the chocolate mousse was a little disappointing as it didnt taste like they used real chocolate in it as opposed to powder, & was simply piped into a bowl.
The interior ambiance is very nice, & the service was good. While I think the food here is good, I believe there are better options around both for flavor & presentation of dishes
I had been looking forward to trying Bonaparte for quite some time, especially during MTLàTABLE, but unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations.
It took over an hour for our first course to arrive, which immediately set a disappointing tone for the evening. When I mentioned the delay twice, the response I received was far from professional - instead of an apology or a gesture of goodwill, I was simply told,'I already told you it's coming.' For a restaurant with such a strong reputation, that lack of courtesy was truly surprising.
As for the food, it was uneven. The lobster bisque was fine but nothing remarkable. The salad was very bitter & in general lacked flavor, almost bland. The goat cheese was enjoyable, & the terrine was decent though not memorable. The lamb & the salmon mousse were good. The beef was tough & difficult to chew, while the pork was tender & well-prepared. The desserts followed the same pattern - the carrot cake was pleasant, but the chocolate mousse felt ordinary.
Overall, the evening was disappointing. After such a long wait & indifferent service, the experience did not live up to Bonaparte's reputation or my expectations. Sadly, I don't think I'll be returning.
This was an incredible fine dining experience. The wine list is a novel. Choosing our meal was hard because everything sounded amazing. We tried the duck breast & beef bourguignon, & they were incredible delicious. Prepared perfectly. The sweet potato puree that came with the duck was very tasty (I wanted much more of that). The only thing that disappointed was the Brussel sprout that came on each of our plates. But dessert more than made up for it. Their dessert cocktails were out of this world & the souffles are really a work of art. Great place for a fancy date night.
Déçue. La laitue dans la salade en entrée était amère. Les pétoncles du plat principal étaient insipides. J'ai demandé de rajouter une sauce pour rehausser le goût. Malheureusement, la sauce était à la vanille, je n'ai pas aimé l'association avec les pétoncles. Mon conjoint a été déçu de la bisque de homard. Il a quand même apprécié le tartare. On nous a apporté la bouteille de vin alors qu'on avait déjà terminé notre entrée. Par contre, la facture est arrivée avant le dessert! Considérant le rapport qualité prix, je n'y retournerai pas.

The host that greeted us was great.
The waiter was good starting out & then completely ignored us. He fawned over other tables - I tried to call him over twice … acknowledged me but took care of others.
My partner ordered a drink mid meal & never got it.
I asked a question about an after dinner drink & got a rude response. We requested our check & had dessert & an after dinner drink elsewhere.
As for the Haddock special it was bland & the Haddock was dry. Salt & pepper would have helped but I was almost finished by time the waiter came back.
We normally tip 20-25% but not this time.
Disappointing to say the least.
The macaron withe sparkler was a nice touch but a little too late.
We stopped in for dessert & loved this place. The bartender Theo was fantastic. We didn't get drinks but watched as he prepared many, he took a lot of care & was truly & artist. Great service great dessert & atmosphere.
We stopped into the bar here for dessert after dinner elsewhere. Theo in the bar was extremely friendly & taking great care with each & every cocktail he created. Made a point to engage us in conversation. Chocolate mousse was delicious- highly recommend.
A truly incredible dining experience. The staff are welcoming, & I appreciate the patience they with us had as my group stumbled through broken French! The meals were amazing, the drinks were amazing & the desserts were… also AMAZING. I'll definitely be back for the tasting menu in the future. I will be recommending Restaurant Bonaparte to anyone & everyone I know that will be visiting Montreal! :)

My wife & I had the absolute pleasure of visiting this restaurant recently. We were delighted the moment we walked in, to the moment she had her salad & Beef bourguignonne, & I had my Rabbit confit & roasted Duck breast. The desserts as well are also splendid. It goes without saying that when we came to beautiful Montreal to treat our palettes & rest, the experience we enjoyed, as well as the attentive service & atmosphere, was most definitely our highlight. They seem very consistent here & that, I feel, is what sets examples.
There are two restaurants that are our favorites in Montreal. Those are Bar George & Restaurant Bonaparte. Bar George has been our favorite for the last few years. Our all-time favorite has been closed for more than 10 years & that was known as the Beaver Club. Bar George has tried to kind of make itself similar to that but unfortunately I'm noticing it's a little bit not quite what it used to be. I would have to say our current favorite is Restaurant Bonaparte. It is located in the Napoleon Bonaparte hotel. Where is Bar George is what you'd call British, restaurant Bonaparte is full on French. When you sit here you're in a nice white dining room with crisp white linens. True high-end French dining. For my course I had the filet mignon topped with a nice large lobe of foie gras. It really doesn't get much better than that. There are high-end steakhouses such as Joe Beef etc. the food in those places is excellent but the noise can be very distracting. Add Bonaparte you have the epitome of fine dining. The staff knows your likes & dislikes. You are exceptionally well cared for in that restaurant. It has become our favorite now. Seafood, Steak, Pork & Duck dinners are all wonderfully prepared. The desserts are simply elegant without being over the top. We found the Profiterole to be among the best we've had anywhere. It is a fairly expensive restaurant among the most expensive we were at during our vacation. But this kind of fine quality dining attention to detail does not come cheap.
The best fine dine experience in montreal. A must visit restaurant for all the visitors . The food, cocktails, dessert everything was so on point. Although the food is on a very higher end, the total bill was more than $300 but it was so worth it. 10/10 experience.
I was in the mood for classic French food. That was exactly what I got. Oh wow, the food was absolutely amazing. If you don't believe me, look at the photos. The interior decor was comfortable & the service was excellent. It was a Monday evening & not crowded at all. I started with a kir to whet my appetite. Then had the shrimp & scallop harmony which was tasteful & beautiful to look at. Of course I had to go with a traditional duck confit which is my go to favorite. A succulent duck leg cooked so slowly with that moist juicy interior & served with the jus. It came with a few vegetables, more for decoration than taste. For dessert I had a glass of ice perry & the calvados souffle. It was huge but so light & airy, truly a stunning creation. The golden-brown crust was crisp & when I bit into the souffle the apple brandy taste just melted on my tongue. I can't wait to visit again.

Stumbled in here on a rainy night & got a table for 2 without a reservation. What a treat! Fantastic service from George, our waiter. Food & wine were excellent, we really enjoyed the wild game terrine. - & if you go here be sure to have the Calvados Soufflé for dessert.
Mes amies & moi sommes allées souper au restaurant Bonaparte pour mon anniversaire! Dès que nous sommes rentrées, l'ambiance & le décor chic de l'hôtel nous ont tout de suite fait bonne impression! Mathieu, notre serveur a fait preuve d'un service irréprochable & d'une gentillesse incroyable! Avant de commencer, des serviettes chaudes imbibées d'huile essentielles nous ont été fournies pour se désinfecter les mains. Ensuite, Mathieu nous a fait part de ses suggestions personnelles tout en nous expliquant les principales composantes de ses plats préférés! Comme c'était mon anniversaire, j'ai eu le droit à une bougie « étincelle » sur mon dessert :) (belle attention) Nous avons commandé les raviolis de champignons, le tartare de boeuf & l'émulsion de pétoncles & de crevettes comme entrées & tout était délicieux! Je recommande de choisir les raviolis si vous voulez une entrée à partager. J'enlève une étoile, car les plats principaux que nous avons choisi: jarret d'agneau & canard étaient un peu ordinaires. Comme desserts, nous avons commandé tarte aux pommes, gâteau au fromage & mon amie voulait une salade de fruits & bien qu'elle n'était pas sur le menu, Mathieu a su répondre à sa demande! Le coup de coeur a définitivement été la tarte aux pommes :) Bref! Je reviendrai définitivement pour essayer d'autres plats sur la carte & je retiens une expérience mémorable & luxueuse au restaurant Bonaparte, surtout grâce au service de Mathieu & à la qualité des plats! We always have a good time dining at Bonaparte! Food & service were top notch! The servers are extremely friendly & attentive! We were a group of 7 this time, we ordered different dishes & everything was delicious!! The seared foie gras with crème brûlée were so flavourful, it melted in my mouth! The mushroom ravioli with truffle were fresh & creamy! The pan seared scallops were cooked perfectly, the tastes blended so well with the oyster mushrooms! The duck, the steak & the rack of lamb were also cooked to perfection! I loved my dessert, soufflé with grand marnier, every bite is heaven!! We will definitely come back again & again!
We had an amazing dining experience staring from excellent food & delightful interior, to delicious & well prepared food. We had mushroom ravioli & foier grass for starters. Followed with fillet mignon & duck breast, both were really good, but the duck breast definitely stood out. The only thing - we were slightly disappointed in desserts, the profiterole was good, but simple - some chocolate & vanilla ice cream - we were expecting something more. Soufflé with orange - had too alcoholy taste. But, overall I want to highlight amazing service & super b atmosphere
